Sing to him, make music for him, recount all his wonders! |
Glory in his holy name, let the hearts that seek Yahweh rejoice! | 3 Laudamini in nomine sancto eius, laetetur cor quaerentium Dominum. |
Seek Yahweh and his strength, tirelessly seek his presence! |
Remember the marvels he has done, his wonders, the judgements he has spoken.
Stock of Abraham, his servant, children of Jacob whom he chose! | 6 semen Abraham, servi eius, filii Iacob, electi eius. |
He is Yahweh our God, his judgements touch the whole world. | 7 Ipse Dominus Deus noster; in universa terra iudicia eius. |
He remembers his covenant for ever, the promise he laid down for a thousand generations, | 8 Memor fuit in saeculum testamenti sui, verbi, quod mandavit in mille generationes, |
which he concluded with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac. |
He established it as a statute for Jacob, an everlasting covenant with Israel, | 10 Et statuit illud Iacob in praeceptum et Israel in testamentum aeternum |
saying, 'To you I give a land, Canaan, your allotted birthright.' | 11 dicens: “ Tibi dabo terram Chanaan funiculum hereditatis vestrae ”. |
When they were insignificant in numbers, a handful of strangers in the land, | 12 Cum essent numero brevi, paucissimi et peregrini in ea, |
wandering from country to country, from one kingdom and nation to another, | 13 et pertransirent de gente in gentem et de regno ad populum alterum, |
he al owed no one to oppress them; for their sake he instructed kings, | 14 non permisit hominem nocere eis et corripuit pro eis reges: |
'Do not touch my anointed ones, to my prophets you may do no harm.' | 15 “ Nolite tangere christos meos et in prophetis meis nolite malignari ”. |
He cal ed down famine on the land, he took away their food supply; | 16 Et vocavit famem super terram et omne baculum panis contrivit. |
he sent a man ahead of them, Joseph, sold as a slave. | 17 Misit ante eos virum, in servum venumdatus est Ioseph. |
So his feet were weighed down with shackles, his neck was put in irons. | 18 Strinxerunt in compedibus pedes eius, in ferrum intravit collum eius, |
In due time his prophecy was fulfilled, the word of Yahweh proved him true. | 19 donec veniret verbum eius, eloquium Domini purgaret eum. |
The king sent orders to release him, the ruler of nations set him free; | 20 Misit rex et solvit eum, princeps populorum, et dimisit eum; |
he put him in charge of his household, the ruler of al he possessed, | 21 constituit eum dominum domus suae et principem omnis possessionis suae, |
to instruct his princes as he saw fit, to teach his counsel ors wisdom. |
Then Israel migrated to Egypt, Jacob settled in the country of Ham. | 23 Et intravit Israel in Aegyptum, et Iacob peregrinus fuit in terra Cham. |
He made his people increase in numbers, he gave them more strength than their enemies, | 24 Et auxit populum suum vehementer et confortavit eum super inimicos eius. |
whose heart he turned to hate his own people, to double-cross his servants. |
He sent his servant Moses, and Aaron, the man of his choice. | 26 Misit Moysen servum suum, Aaron, quem elegit. |
They worked there the wonders he commanded, marvels in the country of Ham. | 27 Posuit in eis verba signorum suorum et prodigiorum in terra Cham. |
Darkness he sent, and darkness fel , but that nation defied his orders. |
He turned their rivers to blood, and kil ed al the fish in them. | 29 Convertit aquas eorum in sanguinem et occidit pisces eorum. |
Their country was overrun with frogs, even in the royal apartments; | 30 Edidit terra eorum ranas in penetralibus regum ipsorum. |
at his word came flies, and mosquitoes throughout the country. | 31 Dixit, et venit coenomyia et scinifes in omnibus finibus eorum. |
He gave them hail as their rain, flames of fire in their land; | 32 Posuit pluvias eorum grandinem, ignem comburentem in terra ipsorum. |
he blasted their vine and their fig tree, and shattered the trees of the country. | 33 Et percussit vineas eorum et ficulneas eorum et contrivit lignum finium eorum. |
At his word came locusts, hoppers beyond al counting; | 34 Dixit, et venit locusta et bruchus, cuius non erat numerus, |
they devoured every green thing in the land, devoured al the produce of the soil. | 35 et comedit omne fenum in terra eorum et comedit fructum terrae eorum. |
He struck al the first-born in their land, the flower of all their manhood; | 36 Et percussit omne primogenitum in terra eorum, primitias omnis roboris eorum. |
he led Israel out with silver and gold; in their tribes there was none who stumbled. |
Egypt was glad at their leaving, for terror of Israel had seized them. | 38 Laetata est Aegyptus in profectione eorum, quia incubuit timor eorum super eos. |
He spread out a cloud to cover them, and fire to light up the night. |
They asked and he brought them quails, food from heaven to their hearts' content; | 40 Petierunt, et venit coturnix, et pane caeli saturavit eos. |
he opened a rock, the waters gushed out, and flowed in dry ground as a river. | 41 Dirupit petram, et fluxerunt aquae, abierunt in sicco flumina. |
Faithful to his sacred promise, given to his servant Abraham, | 42 Quoniam memor fuit verbi sancti sui ad Abraham puerum suum. |
he led out his people with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy. | 43 Et eduxit populum suum in exsultatione, electos suos in laetitia. |
He gave them the territories of nations, they reaped the fruit of other people's labours, | 44 Et dedit illis regiones gentium, et labores populorum possederunt, |
on condition that they kept his statutes, and remained obedient to his laws. ALLELUIA. |
