NEW JERUSALEMNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Al eluia! Give thanks to Yahweh, cal on his name, proclaim his deeds to the peoples!1 Give thanks to the LORD, invoke his name; make known among the peoples his deeds!
Sing to him, make music for him, recount all his wonders!2 Sing praise, play music; proclaim all his wondrous deeds!
Glory in his holy name, let the hearts that seek Yahweh rejoice!3 Glory in his holy name; rejoice, O hearts that seek the LORD!
Seek Yahweh and his strength, tirelessly seek his presence!4 Rely on the mighty LORD; constantly seek his face.
Remember the marvels he has done, his wonders, the judgements he has spoken.5 Recall the wondrous deeds he has done, his signs and his words of judgment,
Stock of Abraham, his servant, children of Jacob whom he chose!6 You descendants of Abraham his servant, offspring of Jacob the chosen one!
He is Yahweh our God, his judgements touch the whole world.7 The LORD is our God who rules the whole earth.
He remembers his covenant for ever, the promise he laid down for a thousand generations,8 He remembers forever his covenant, the pact imposed for a thousand generations,
which he concluded with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac.9 Which was made with Abraham, confirmed by oath to Isaac,
He established it as a statute for Jacob, an everlasting covenant with Israel,10 And ratified as binding for Jacob, an everlasting covenant for Israel:
saying, 'To you I give a land, Canaan, your allotted birthright.'11 "To you I give the land of Canaan, your own allotted heritage."
When they were insignificant in numbers, a handful of strangers in the land,12 When they were few in number, a handful, and strangers there,
wandering from country to country, from one kingdom and nation to another,13 Wandering from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another,
he al owed no one to oppress them; for their sake he instructed kings,14 He let no one oppress them; for their sake he rebuked kings:
'Do not touch my anointed ones, to my prophets you may do no harm.'15 " Do not touch my anointed, to my prophets do no harm."
He cal ed down famine on the land, he took away their food supply;16 Then he called down a famine on the land, destroyed the grain that sustained them.
he sent a man ahead of them, Joseph, sold as a slave.17 He had sent a man ahead of them, Joseph, sold as a slave.
So his feet were weighed down with shackles, his neck was put in irons.18 They shackled his feet with chains; collared his neck in iron,
In due time his prophecy was fulfilled, the word of Yahweh proved him true.19 Till his prediction came to pass, and the word of the LORD proved him true.
The king sent orders to release him, the ruler of nations set him free;20 The king sent and released him; the ruler of peoples set him free.
he put him in charge of his household, the ruler of al he possessed,21 He made him lord over his palace, ruler over all his possessions,
to instruct his princes as he saw fit, to teach his counsel ors wisdom.22 To instruct his princes by his word, to teach his elders wisdom.
Then Israel migrated to Egypt, Jacob settled in the country of Ham.23 Then Israel entered Egypt; Jacob lived in the land of Ham.
He made his people increase in numbers, he gave them more strength than their enemies,24 God greatly increased his people, made them too many for their foes.
whose heart he turned to hate his own people, to double-cross his servants.25 He turned their hearts to hate his people, to treat his servants unfairly.
He sent his servant Moses, and Aaron, the man of his choice.26 He sent his servant Moses, Aaron whom he had chosen.
They worked there the wonders he commanded, marvels in the country of Ham.27 They worked his signs in Egypt and wonders in the land of Ham.
Darkness he sent, and darkness fel , but that nation defied his orders.28 He sent darkness and it grew dark, but they rebelled against his word.
He turned their rivers to blood, and kil ed al the fish in them.29 He turned their waters into blood and killed all their fish.
Their country was overrun with frogs, even in the royal apartments;30 Their land swarmed with frogs, even the chambers of their kings.
at his word came flies, and mosquitoes throughout the country.31 He spoke and there came swarms of flies, gnats through all their country.
He gave them hail as their rain, flames of fire in their land;32 For rain he gave them hail, flashes of lightning throughout their land.
he blasted their vine and their fig tree, and shattered the trees of the country.33 He struck down their vines and fig trees, shattered the trees of their country.
At his word came locusts, hoppers beyond al counting;34 He spoke and the locusts came, grass hoppers without number.
they devoured every green thing in the land, devoured al the produce of the soil.35 They devoured every plant in the land; they ravaged the crops of their fields.
He struck al the first-born in their land, the flower of all their manhood;36 He struck down every firstborn in the land, the first fruits of all their vigor.
he led Israel out with silver and gold; in their tribes there was none who stumbled.37 He brought his people out, laden with silver and gold; no stragglers among the tribes.
Egypt was glad at their leaving, for terror of Israel had seized them.38 Egypt rejoiced when they left, for panic had seized them.
He spread out a cloud to cover them, and fire to light up the night.39 He spread a cloud as a cover, and made a fire to light up the night.
They asked and he brought them quails, food from heaven to their hearts' content;40 They asked and he brought them quail; with bread from heaven he filled them.
he opened a rock, the waters gushed out, and flowed in dry ground as a river.41 He split the rock and water gushed forth; it flowed through the desert like a river.
Faithful to his sacred promise, given to his servant Abraham,42 For he remembered his sacred word to Abraham his servant.
he led out his people with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy.43 He brought his people out with joy, his chosen ones with shouts of triumph.
He gave them the territories of nations, they reaped the fruit of other people's labours,44 He gave them the lands of the nations, the wealth of the peoples to own,
on condition that they kept his statutes, and remained obedient to his laws.45 That they might keep his laws and observe his teachings. Hallelujah!
