Livro dos Provérbios 4

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ouvi, filhos meus, a instrução de um pai; sede atentos, para adquirir a inteligência,	1 Listen, my children, to a father's instruction; pay attention, and learn what understanding is.
2 porque é sã a doutrina que eu vos dou; não abandoneis o meu ensino.	2 What I am offering you is sound doctrine: do not forsake my teaching.
3 Fui um {verdadeiro} filho para meu pai, terno e amado junto de minha mãe.	3 I too was once a child with a father, in my mother's eyes a tender child, unique.
4 Deu-me ele este conselho: Que teu coração retenha minhas palavras; guarda meus preceitos e viverás.	4 This was what he used to teach me, 'Let your heart treasure what I have to say, keep my principles andyou wil live;
5 Adquire sabedoria, adquire perspicácia, não te esqueças de nada, não te desvies de meus conselhos.	5 acquire wisdom, acquire understanding, never forget her, never deviate from my words.
6 Não abandones a sabedoria, ela te guardará; ama-a, ela te protegerá.	6 Do not desert her, she will keep you safe; love her, she wil watch over you.
7 Eis o princípio da sabedoria: adquire a sabedoria. Adquire a inteligência em troca de tudo o que possuis.	7 The first principle of wisdom is: acquire wisdom; at the cost of all you have, acquire understanding!
8 Tem-na em grande estima, ela te exaltará, glorificar-te-á quando a abraçares,	8 Hold her close, and she wil make you great; embrace her, and she wil be your pride;
9 colocará sobre tua fronte uma graciosa coroa, outorgar-te-á um magnífico diadema.	9 she will provide a graceful garland for your head, bestow a crown of honour on you.'
10 Ouve, meu filho, recebe minhas palavras e se multiplicarão os anos de tua vida.	10 Listen, my child, take my words to heart, and the years of your life wil be multiplied.
11 É o caminho da sabedoria que te mostro, é pela senda da retidão que eu te guiarei.	11 I have educated you in the ways of wisdom, I have guided you along the path of honesty.
12 Se nela caminhares, teus passos não serão dificultosos; se correres, não tropeçarás.	12 When you walk, your going wil be unhindered, if you run, you wil not stumble.
13 Aferra-te à instrução, não a soltes, guarda-a, porque ela é tua vida.	13 Hold fast to discipline, never let her go, keep your eyes on her, she is your life.
14 Na estrada dos ímpios não te embrenhes, não sigas pelo caminho dos maus.	14 Do not fol ow the path of the wicked, do not walk the way that the evil go.
15 Evita-o, não passes por ele, desvia-te e toma outro,	15 Avoid it, do not take it, turn your back on it, pass it by.
16 Porque eles não dormiriam sem antes haverem praticado o mal, não conciliariam o sono se não tivessem feito cair alguém,	16 For they cannot sleep unless they have first done wrong, they miss their sleep if they have not madesomeone stumble;
17 tanto mais que a maldade é o pão que comem e a violência, o vinho que bebem.	17 for the bread of wickedness is what they eat, and the wine of violence is what they drink.
18 Mas a vereda dos justos é como a aurora, cujo brilho cresce até o dia pleno.	18 The path of the upright is like the light of dawn, its brightness growing to the ful ness of day;
19 A estrada dos iníquos é tenebrosa, não percebem aquilo em que hão de tropeçar.	19 the way of the wicked is as dark as night, they cannot tel the obstacles they stumble over.
20 Meu filho, ouve as minhas palavras, inclina teu ouvido aos meus discursos.	20 My child, pay attention to what I am telling you, listen careful y to my words;
21 Que eles não se afastem dos teus olhos, conserva-os no íntimo do teu coração,	21 do not let them out of your sight, keep them deep in your heart.
22 pois são vida para aqueles que os encontram, saúde para todo corpo.	22 For they are life to those who find them and health to al humanity.
23 Guarda teu coração acima de todas as outras coisas, porque dele brotam todas as fontes da vida.	23 More than al else, keep watch over your heart, since here are the wel springs of life.
24 Preserva tua boca da malignidade, longe de teus lábios a falsidade!	24 Turn your back on the mouth that misleads, keep your distance from lips that deceive.
25 Que teus olhos vejam de frente e que tua vista perceba o que há diante de ti!	25 Let your eyes be fixed ahead, your gaze be straight before you.
26 Examina o caminho onde colocas os pés e que sejam sempre retos!	26 Let the path you tread be level and al your ways be firm.
27 Não te desvies nem para a direita nem para a esquerda, e retira teu pé do mal.	27 Turn neither to right nor to left, keep your foot clear of evil.
