SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 O coração do rei é uma água fluente nas mãos do Senhor: ele o inclina para qualquer parte que quiser.	1 Like flowing water is a king's heart in Yahweh's hand; he directs it wherever he pleases.
2 Os caminhos do homem parecem retos aos seus olhos, mas cabe ao Senhor pesar os corações.	2 All actions are straight in the doer's own eyes, but it is Yahweh who weighs hearts.
3 A prática da justiça e da eqüidade vale aos olhos do Senhor mais que os sacrifícios.	3 To do what is upright and just is more pleasing to Yahweh than sacrifice.
4 Olhares altivos ensoberbecem o coração; o luzeiro dos ímpios é o pecado.	4 Haughty eye, proud heart, lamp of the wicked, nothing but sin.
5 Os planos do homem ativo produzem abundância; a precipitação só traz penúria.	5 The hardworking is thoughtful, and al is gain; too much haste, and all that comes of it is want.
6 Tesouros adquiridos pela mentira: vaidade passageira para os que procuram a morte.	6 To make a fortune with the help of a lying tongue: such is the idle fantasy of those who look for death.
7 A violência dos ímpios os conduz à {ruína}, porque se recusam a praticar a justiça.	7 The violence of the wicked proves their ruin, for they refuse to do what is right.
8 O caminhos do perverso é tortuoso, mas o inocente age com retidão.	8 The way of the felon is devious, the conduct of the innocent straight.
9 Melhor é habitar num canto do terraço do que conviver com uma mulher impertinente.	9 Better the corner of a roof to live on than a house shared with a quarrelsome woman.
10 A alma do ímpio deseja o mal; nem mesmo seu amigo encontrará graça a seus olhos.	10 The soul of the wicked is intent on evil, to such a person no neighbour can ever do right.
11 Quando se pune o zombador, o simples torna-se sábio; quando se adverte o sábio, ele adquire a ciência.	11 When a cynic is punished, simpletons grow wiser, but someone of understanding acquires knowledgeby instruction.
12 O justo observa a cada do ímpio e precipita os maus na desventura.	12 The Upright One watches the house of the wicked; he hurls the wicked to destruction.
13 Quem se faz de surdo aos gritos do pobre não será ouvido, quando ele mesmo clamar.	13 Whoever refuses to listen to the cry of the weak, wil in turn plead and not be heard.
14 Um presente dado sob o manto extingue a cólera; uma oferta concebida às ocultas acalma um furor violento.	14 Anger is mol ified by a covert gift, raging fury by a present under cover of the cloak.
15 Para o justo é uma alegria a prática da justiça, mas é um terror para aqueles que praticam a iniqüidade.	15 Doing what is right fills the upright with joy, but evil-doers with terror.
16 O homem que se desvia do caminho da prudência repousará na companhia das trevas.	16 Whoever strays far from the way of prudence wil rest in the assembly of shadows.
17 O que ama os banquetes será um homem indigente; o que ama o vinho e o óleo não se enriquecerá.	17 Pleasure-lovers stay poor, no one wil grow rich who loves wine and good living.
18 O ímpio serve de resgate para o justo e o pérfido para os homens retos.	18 The wicked is a ransom for the upright; and the law-breaker for the honest.
19 Melhor é habitar no deserto do que com uma mulher impertinente e intrigante.	19 Better to live in a desert land than with a quarrelsome and irritable woman.
20 Na casa do sábio há preciosas reservas e óleo; um homem imprudente, porém, os absorverá.	20 The wise has valuables and oil at home, but a fool soon runs through both.
21 Quem segue a justiça e a misericórdia, achará vida, justiça e glória.	21 Whoever pursues uprightness and faithful love will find life, uprightness and honour.
22 O sábio toma de assalto a cidade dos heróis: destrói a fortaleza em que depositava confiança.	22 A sage can scale a garrisoned city and shatter the rampart on which it relied.
23 Quem vigia sua boca e sua língua preserva sua vida da angústia.	23 Watch kept over mouth and tongue keeps the watcher safe from disaster.
24 Chamamos de zombador um soberbo arrogante, que age com orgulho desmedido.	24 Insolent, haughty -- the name is 'Cynic'; overweening pride marks such behaviour.
25 Os desejos do preguiçoso o matam porque suas mãos recusam o trabalho;	25 The idler's desires are the death of him, since his hands wil do no work.
26 passam todo o dia a desejar com ardor, mas quem é justo dá largamente.	26 Al day long the godless is racked by desire, the upright gives without ever refusing.
27 O sacrifício dos ímpios é abominável, mormente quando o oferecem com má intenção.	27 The sacrifice of the wicked is abhorrent, above al if it is offered for bad motives.
28 A testemunha mentirosa perecerá, mas o homem que escuta sempre poderá falar.	28 The false witness wil perish, but no one who knows how to listen wil ever be silenced.
29 O ímpio aparenta um ar firme; o homem correto consolida seu proceder.	29 The wicked man's strength shows on his face, but the honest it is whose steps are firm.
30 Nem a sabedoria, nem prudência, nem conselho podem prevalescer contra o Senhor.	30 No wisdom, no understanding, no advice is worth anything before Yahweh.
31 Prepara-se o cavalo para o dia da batalha, mas é do senhor que depende a vitória.	31 Fit out the cavalry for the day of battle, but the victory is Yahweh's.
