Livro dos Provérbios 12

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Aquele que ama a correção ama a ciência, mas o que detesta a reprimenda é um insensato.	1 Whoever loves discipline, loves knowledge, stupid are those who hate correction.
2 O homem de bem alcança a benevolência do Senhor; o Senhor condena o homem que premedita o mal.	2 The honest obtains Yahweh's favour, the schemer incurs his condemnation.
3 Não se firma o homem pela impiedade, mas a raiz dos justos não será abalada.	3 No one is made secure by wickedness, but nothing shakes the roots of the upright.
4 Uma mulher virtuosa é a coroa de seu marido, mas a insolente é como a cárie nos seus ossos.	4 A capable wife, her husband's crown, a shameless wife, a cancer in his bones.
5 Os pensamentos dos justos são cheios de retidão; as tramas dos perversos são cheias de dolo.	5 The plans of the upright are honest, the intrigues of the wicked are full of deceit.
6 As palavras dos ímpios são ciladas mortíferas, enquanto a boca dos justos os salva.	6 The words of the wicked are snares to shed blood, what the honest say keeps them safe.
7 Transtornados, os ímpios não subsistirão, mas a casa dos justos permanecerá firme.	7 Once thrown down, the wicked are no more, but the house of the upright stands firm.
8 Avalia-se um homem segundo a sua inteligência, mas o perverso de coração incorrerá em desprezo.	8 Prudence wins praise, but a tortuous heart incurs only contempt.
9 Mais vale um homem humilde, que tem um servo, que o jactancioso, que não tem o que comer.	9 Better a common fel ow who has a slave than someone who gives himself airs and has nothing to eat.
10 O justo cuida das necessidades do seu gado, mas cruéis são as entranhas do ímpio.	10 The upright has compassion on his animals, but the heart of the wicked is ruthless.
11 Quem cultiva sua terra será saciado de pão; quem procura as futilidades é um insensato.	11 Whoever works his land shall have bread and to spare, but no one who chases fantasies has anysense.
12 O ímpio cobiça o laço do perverso, mas a raiz do justo produz fruto.	12 The godless delights in the snare of the wicked, but the root of the upright bears fruit.
13 No pecado dos lábios há uma cilada funesta, mas o justo livra-se da angústia.	13 In the sin of the lips lies a disastrous trap, but the upright finds a way out of misfortune.
14 O homem se farta com o fruto de sua boca; cada qual recebe a recompensa da obra de suas mãos.	14 Abundance of good things is the fruit of the lips; labour brings its own return.
15 Ao insensato parece reto seu caminho, enquanto o sábio ouve os conselhos.	15 Fools think the way they go is straight, the wise listens to advice.
16 O louco mostra logo a sua irritação; o circunspecto dissimula o ultraje.	16 The fool shows anger straightaway, the discreet conceals dislike.
17 O homem sincero anuncia a justiça; a testemunha falsa profere mentira.	17 To tel the truth is to further justice, a false witness is nothing but deceit.
18 O falador fere com golpes de espada; a língua dos sábios, porém, cura.	18 Thoughtless words can wound like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
19 Os lábios sinceros permanecem sempre constantes; a língua mentirosa dura como um abrir e fechar de olhos.	19 Sincere lips endure for ever, the lying tongue lasts only a moment.
20 No coração dos que tramam males há engano; a alegria está naqueles que dão conselhos de paz.	20 Deceit is in the heart of the schemer, joy with those who give counsels of peace.
21 Ao justo nenhum mal pode abater, mas os maus enchem-se de tristezas.	21 No harm can come to the upright, but the wicked are swamped by misfortunes.
22 Os lábios mentirosos são abominação para o Senhor, mas os que procedem com fidelidade agradam-lhe.	22 Lying lips are abhorrent to Yahweh; dear to him those who make truth their way of life.
23 O homem prudente oculta sua sabedoria; o coração dos insensatos proclama sua própria loucura.	23 The discreet keeps knowledge hidden, the heart of fools proclaims their folly.
24 A mão diligente dominará; a mão preguiçosa torna-se tributária.	24 For the diligent hand, authority; for the slack hand, forced labour.
25 A aflição no coração do homem o deprime; uma boa palavra restitui-lhe a alegria.	25 Worry makes a heart heavy, a kindly word makes it glad.
26 O justo guia seu companheiro, mas o caminho dos ímpios os perde.	26 The upright shows the way to a friend; the way of the wicked leads them astray.
27 O indolente não assa o que caçou; um homem diligente, porém, é um tesouro valioso.	27 The idle has no game to roast; diligence is anyone's most precious possession.
28 A vida está na vereda da justiça; o caminho do ódio, porém, conduz à morte.	28 In the way of uprightness is life, the ways of the vengeful lead to death.
