SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 A balança fraudulenta é abominada pelo Senhor, mas o peso justo lhe é agradável.	1 A false balance is abhorrent to Yahweh, a just weight is pleasing to him.
2 Vindo o orgulho, virá também a ignomínia, mas a sabedoria mora com os humildes.	2 Pride comes first; disgrace soon fol ows; with the humble is wisdom found.
3 A integridade dos justos serve-lhes de guia; mas a perversidade dos pérfidos arrasta-os à ruína.	3 The honest have their own honesty for guidance, the treacherous are ruined by their own perfidy.
4 No dia da cólera a riqueza não terá proveito, mas a justiça salva da morte.	4 In the day of retribution riches wil be useless, but uprightness delivers from death.
5 A justiça do homem íntegro aplana-lhe o caminho, mas o ímpio se abisma em sua própria impiedade.	5 The uprightness of the good makes their way straight, the wicked fal by their own wickedness.
6 A justiça dos retos os salva, mas em sua própria cobiça os pérfidos se prendem.	6 Their uprightness sets the honest free, the treacherous are imprisoned by their own desires.
7 Morto o ímpio, desaparece sua esperança, a esperança dos iníquos perecerá.	7 The hope of the wicked perishes with death, hope placed in riches comes to nothing.
8 O justo livra-se da angústia; em seu lugar cai o malvado.	8 The upright escapes affliction, the wicked incurs it instead.
9 Com os lábios, o hipócrita arruína o seu próximo, mas os justos serão salvos pela ciência.	9 Through his mouth the godless is the ruin of his neighbour, but by knowledge the upright aresafeguarded.
10 Com a felicidade dos justos, exulta a cidade; com a perdição dos ímpios solta brados de alegria.	10 When the upright prosper the city rejoices, when the wicked are ruined there is a shout of joy.
11 Uma cidade prospera pela bênção dos justos, mas é destruída pelas palavras dos maus.	11 A city is raised on the blessing of the honest, and demolished by the mouth of the wicked.
12 Quem despreza seu próximo demonstra falta de senso; o homem sábio guarda silêncio.	12 Whoever looks down on a neighbour lacks good sense; the intelligent keeps a check on the tongue.
13 O perverso trai os segredos, enquanto um coração leal os mantém ocultos.	13 A tittle-tattler lets secrets out, the trustworthy keeps things hidden.
14 Por falta de direção cai um povo; onde há muitos conselheiros, ali haverá salvação.	14 For want of leadership a people perishes, safety lies in many advisers.
15 Quem fica por fiador de um estranho cairá na desventura; o que evita os laços viverá tranqüilo.	15 Whoever goes bail for a stranger does himself harm, but one who shuns going surety is safe.
16 Uma mulher graciosa obtém honras, mas os laboriosos alcançam fortuna.	16 A gracious woman acquires honour, violent people acquire wealth.
17 O homem liberal faz bem a si próprio, mas o cruel prejudica a sua própria carne.	17 Faithful love brings its own reward, the inflexible injure their own selves.
18 O ímpio obtém um lucro falaz, mas o que semeia justiça receberá uma recompensa certa.	18 Disappointment crowns the labours of the wicked, whoever sows uprightness reaps a solid reward.
19 Quem pratica a justiça o faz para a vida, mas quem segue o mal corre para a morte.	19 Whoever establishes uprightness is on the way to life, whoever pursues evil, on the way to death.
20 Os homens de coração perverso são odiosos ao Senhor; os de conduta íntegra são objeto de seus favores.	20 Tortuous hearts are abhorrent to Yahweh, dear to him, those whose ways are blameless.
21 Na verdade, o iníquo não ficará impune, mas a posteridade dos justos será salva.	21 Be sure of it, the wicked wil not go unpunished, but the race of the upright wil come to no harm.
22 Um anel de ouro no focinho de um porco: tal é a mulher formosa e insensata.	22 A golden ring in the snout of a pig is a lovely woman who lacks discretion.
23 O desejo dos justos é unicamente o bem; o que espera os ímpios é a cólera.	23 The hope of the upright is nothing but good, the expectation of the wicked is retribution.
24 Há quem dá com liberalidade e obtém mais. Outros poupam demais e vivem na indigência.	24 One scatters money around, yet only adds to his wealth, another is excessively mean, but only growsthe poorer.
25 A alma generosa será cumulada de bens; e o que largamente dá, largamente receberá.	25 The soul who blesses wil prosper, whoever satisfies others wil also be satisfied.
26 O povo amaldiçoa o que esconde o trigo, mas a bênção virá sobre a cabeça dos que o vendem.	26 The people's curse is on those who hoard the wheat, their blessing on the head of those who sel it.
27 Quem investiga o bem busca o favor; o que busca o mal será por ele oprimido.	27 Whoever strives for good obtains favour, whoever looks for evil wil get an evil return.
28 Quem confia em sua riqueza cairá, enquanto os justos reverdecerão como a folhagem.	28 Whoever trusts in riches wil have a fal , the upright wil flourish like the leaves.
29 O que perturba sua casa herda o vento, e o néscio será escravo do sábio.	29 Whoever misgoverns a house inherits the wind, and the fool becomes slave to the wise.
30 O fruto do justo é uma árvore de vida; o que conquista as almas é sábio.	30 The fruit of the upright is a tree of life: the sage captivates souls.
31 Se o justo recebe na terra sua recompensa, quanto mais o perverso e o pecador!	31 If here on earth the upright gets due reward, how much more the wicked and the sinner!
