Deuteronomio 7

NOVA VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Cum introduxerit te Dominus Deus tuus in terram, quam pos sessurus ingredieris, et deleverit gentes multas coram te, Hetthaeum et Gergesaeum et Amorraeum, Chananaeum et Pherezaeum et Hevaeum et Iebusaeum, septem gentes multo maioris numeri quam tu es et robustiores te,	1 'When Yahweh your God has brought you into the country which you are going to make your own,many nations wil fal before you: Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites,seven nations greater and stronger than yourselves.
2 tradideritque eas Dominus Deus tuus tibi, percuties eas usque ad internecionem. Non inibis cum eis foedus nec misereberis earum	2 Yahweh your God will put them at your mercy and you will conquer them. You must put them under thecurse of destruction. You must not make any treaty with them or show them any pity.
3 neque sociabis cum eis coniugia; filiam tuam non dabis filio eius nec filiam illius accipies filio tuo,	3 You must not intermarry with them; you must not give a daughter of yours to a son of theirs, or take adaughter of theirs for a son of yours,
4 quia seducet filium tuum, ne sequatur me et ut serviat diis alienis, irasceturque furor Domini contra vos et delebit te cito.	4 for your son would be seduced from fol owing me into serving other gods; the wrath of Yahweh wouldblaze out against you and he would instantly destroy you.
5 Quin potius haec facietis eis: aras eorum subvertite et confringite lapides et palos lucosque succidite et sculptilia comburite;	5 Instead, treat them like this: tear down their altars, smash their standing-stones, cut down their sacredpoles and burn their idols.
6 quia populus sanctus es Domino Deo tuo. Te elegit Dominus Deus tuus, ut sis ei populus peculiaris de cunctis populis, qui sunt super terram.	6 For you are a people consecrated to Yahweh your God; of al the peoples on earth, you have beenchosen by Yahweh your God to be his own people.
7 Non quia cunctas gentes numero vincebatis, vobis iunctus est Dominus et elegit vos, cum omnibus sitis populis pauciores,	7 'Yahweh set his heart on you and chose you not because you were the most numerous of al peoples --for indeed you were the smal est of al -
8 sed quia dilexit vos Dominus et custodivit iuramentum, quod iuravit patribus vestris, eduxit vos in manu forti et redemit te de domo servitutis, de manu pharaonis regis Aegypti.	8 but because he loved you and meant to keep the oath which he swore to your ancestors: that was whyYahweh brought you out with his mighty hand and redeemed you from the place of slave-labour, from the powerof Pharaoh king of Egypt.
9 Et scies quia Dominus Deus tuus ipse est Deus, Deus fidelis, custodiens pactum et misericordiam diligentibus se et his, qui custodiunt mandata eius, in mille generationes	9 From this you can see that Yahweh your God is the true God, the faithful God who, though he is true tohis covenant and his faithful love for a thousand generations as regards those who love him and keep hiscommandments,
10 et reddens odientibus se protinus, ita ut disperdat eos et ultra non differat, protinus eis restituens, quod merentur.	10 punishes in their own persons those that hate him. He destroys anyone who hates him, without delay;and it is in their own persons that he punishes them.
11 Custodi ergo mandata et praecepta atque iudicia, quae ego mando tibi hodie, ut facias.	11 Hence, you must keep and observe the commandments, laws and customs which I am laying downfor you today.
12 Si audieritis haec iudicia et custodieritis ea et feceritis, custodiet et Dominus Deus tuus tibi pactum et misericordiam, quam iuravit patribus tuis,	12 'Listen to these ordinances, be true to them and observe them, and in return Yahweh your God wil betrue to the covenant and love which he promised on oath to your ancestors.
13 et diliget te et benedicet tibi ac multiplicabit te benedicetque fructui ventris tui et fructui terrae tuae, frumento tuo atque vindemiae, oleo et partui armentorum et incremento ovium tuarum super terram, pro qua iuravit patribus tuis, ut daret eam tibi.	13 He wil love you and bless you and increase your numbers; he wil bless the fruit of your body and theproduce of your soil, your corn, your new wine, your oil, the issue of your cattle, the young of your flock, in thecountry which he swore to your ancestors that he would give you.
14 Benedictus eris prae omnibus populis. Non erit apud te sterilis utriusque sexus, tam in hominibus quam in gregibus tuis.	14 You wil be the most blessed of al peoples. None of you, man or woman, will be sterile, no male orfemale of your beasts infertile.
15 Auferet Dominus a te omnem languorem; et infirmitates Aegypti pessimas, quas novisti, non inferet tibi, sed cunctis hostibus tuis.	15 Yahweh wil deflect al il ness from you; he wil not afflict you with those evil plagues of Egypt whichyou have known, but will inflict them on al who hate you.
16 Devorabis omnes populos, quos Dominus Deus tuus daturus est tibi; non parcet eis oculus tuus, nec servies diis eorum, ne sint in ruinam tui.	16 'So, devour all the peoples whom Yahweh your God puts at your mercy, show them no pity, do notserve their gods: or you wil be ensnared.
17 Si dixeris in corde tuo: “Plures sunt gentes istae quam ego; quomodo potero delere eas?”,	17 'You may say in your heart, "These nations outnumber me; how shal I be able to dispossess them?"
18 noli metuere eas, sed recordare, quae fecerit Dominus Deus tuus pharaoni et cunctis Aegyptiis,	18 Do not be afraid of them: remember how Yahweh your God treated Pharaoh and all Egypt,
19 plagas maximas, quas viderunt oculi tui, et signa atque portenta manumque robustam et extentum brachium, ut educeret te Dominus Deus tuus; sic faciet cunctis populis, quos metuis.	19 the great ordeals that you yourselves have seen, the signs and wonders, the mighty hand andoutstretched arm with which Yahweh your God brought you out. This is how Yahweh your God will treat al thepeoples whom you fear to face.
20 Insuper et crabrones mittet Dominus Deus tuus in eos, donec deleat omnes atque disperdat, qui te fugerint et latere potuerint.	20 And what is more, Yahweh your God wil send hornets to destroy those who are left and who hidefrom you.
21 Non timebis eos, quia Dominus Deus tuus in medio tui est, Deus magnus et terribilis.	21 'Do not be afraid of them, for Yahweh your God is among you, a great and terrible God.
22 Ipse consumet nationes has in conspectu tuo paulatim atque per partes. Non poteris delere eas cito, ne multiplicentur contra te bestiae terrae.	22 Little by little, Yahweh your God will clear away these nations before you; you cannot destroy them allat once, or wild animals wil breed and be disastrous for you.
23 Dabitque eos Dominus Deus tuus in conspectu tuo et conturbabit illos conturbatione magna, donec penitus deleantur.	23 But Yahweh your God wil put them at your mercy, and disaster after disaster wil overtake them untilthey are finally destroyed.
24 Tradetque reges eorum in manus tuas, et disperdes nomina eorum sub caelo; nullus poterit resistere tibi, donec conteras eos.	24 He wil put their kings at your mercy and you wil blot out their names under heaven; no one wil beable to resist you -- until you have destroyed them al .
25 Sculptilia eorum igne combures; non concupisces argentum et aurum, quibus vestita sunt, neque assumes ex eis tibi quidquam, ne offendas propterea, quia abominatio est Domini Dei tui.	25 'You must burn the statues of their gods, not coveting the gold and silver that covers them; take it andyou wil be caught in a snare: it is detestable to Yahweh your God.
26 Nec inferes abominationem in domum tuam, ne fias anathema sicut et illa est; quasi spurcitiam detestaberis et velut inquinamentum ac sordes abominationi habebis, quia anathema est.	26 You must not bring any detestable thing into your house: or you, like it, wil come under the curse ofdestruction. You must regard them as unclean and loathsome, for they are under the curse of destruction.'
