NOVA VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
Et reversus est angelus, qui loquebatur in me, et excitavit me quasivirum, qui excitatur de somno suo.1 The angel who was talking to me came back and roused me as though rousing someone who wasasleep.
And he asked me, 'What do you see?' I replied, 'As I look, there is a lamp-stand entirely of gold with abowl at the top of it; it holds seven lamps, with seven openings for the lamps on it.
By it are two olive trees, one to the right and the other to the left.'
Et respondi et aio ad angelum, qui loquebatur in me, dicens: “Quid sunthaec, domine mi?”.4 I then said to the angel who was talking to me, 'What are those things, my lord?'
The angel who was talking to me replied, 'Do you not know what they are?' I said, 'No, my lord.'
Et respondit et ait ad me dicens: “Hoc est verbum Domini ad Zorobabeldicens: Non in exercitu nec in robore sed in spiritu meo, dicit Dominusexercituum.6 He then gave me this answer,'These seven are the eyes of Yahweh, which range over the whole world.'
Quis tu, mons magne, coram Zorobabel? Eris in planum. Et educetlapidem primarium inter clamores: Quam venustus!7 'What are you, great mountain? Beside Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! He wil bring out thekeystone while it is cheered with Hurrah! Hurrah!'
Et factum est verbum Dominiad me dicens:8 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as follows,
Manus Zorobabel fundaverunt domum istam et manus eius perficienteam, et scietis quia Dominus exercituum misit me ad vos.9 'The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this Temple; his hands wil finish it. (Then you wilknow that Yahweh Sabaoth has sent me to you.)
A day of little things, no doubt, but who would dare despise it? How they wil rejoice when they see thechosen stone in the hands of Zerubbabel!'
Then I went on to ask him, 'What is the meaning of these two olive trees, to right and left of the lamp-stand?'
Et respondi secundo et dixi ad eum: “Quidsunt duo rami olivarum, qui duabus fistulis aureis effundunt ex se aurum?”.12 (And I went on to ask him further, 'What is the meaning of the two olive branches discharging oilthrough the two golden openings?')
Et dixi: “Non,domine mi”.13 He replied, 'Do you not know what they are?' I said, 'No, my lord.'
He said, 'These are the two anointed ones in attendance on the Lord of the whole world. This is theword of Yahweh with regard to Zerubbabel, 'Not by might and not by power, but by my spirit' -- says YahwehSabaoth.
