1 Entrato in Gèrico, attraversava la città.	1 And having entered, he walked through Jericho.
2 Ed ecco un uomo di nome Zaccheo, capo dei pubblicani e ricco,	2 And behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus. And he was the leader of the tax collectors, and he was wealthy.
3 cercava di vedere quale fosse Gesù, ma non gli riusciva a causa della folla, poiché era piccolo di statura.	3 And he sought to see Jesus, to see who he was. But he was unable to do so, because of the crowd, for he was small in stature.
4 Allora corse avanti e, per poterlo vedere, salì su un sicomoro, poiché doveva passare di là.	4 And running ahead, he climbed up a sycamore tree, so that he might see him. For he was to pass near there.
5 Quando giunse sul luogo, Gesù alzò lo sguardo e gli disse: "Zaccheo, scendi subito, perché oggi devo fermarmi a casa tua".	5 And when he had arrived at the place, Jesus looked up and saw him, and he said to him: “Zacchaeus, hurry down. For today, I should lodge in your house.”
6 In fretta scese e lo accolse pieno di gioia.	6 And hurrying, he came down, and he received him joyfully.
7 Vedendo ciò, tutti mormoravano: "È andato ad alloggiare da un peccatore!".	7 And when they all saw this, they murmured, saying that he had turned aside to a sinful man.
8 Ma Zaccheo, alzatosi, disse al Signore: "Ecco, Signore, io do la metà dei miei beni ai poveri; e se ho frodato qualcuno, restituisco quattro volte tanto".	8 But Zacchaeus, standing still, said to the Lord: “Behold, Lord, one half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have cheated anyone in any matter, I will repay him fourfold.”
9 Gesù gli rispose: "Oggi la salvezza è entrata in questa casa, perché anch'egli è figlio di Abramo;	9 Jesus said to him: “Today, salvation has come to this house; because of this, he too is a son of Abraham.
10 il Figlio dell'uomo infatti è venuto a cercare e a salvare ciò che era perduto".	10 For the Son of man has come to seek and to save what had been lost.”
11 Mentre essi stavano ad ascoltare queste cose, Gesù disse ancora una parabola perché era vicino a Gerusalemme ed essi credevano che il regno di Dio dovesse manifestarsi da un momento all'altro.	11 As they were listening to these things, continuing on, he spoke a parable, because he was nearing Jerusalem, and because they guessed that the kingdom of God might be manifested without delay.
12 Disse dunque: "Un uomo di nobile stirpe partì per un paese lontano per ricevere un titolo regale e poi ritornare.	12 Therefore, he said: “A certain man of nobility traveled to a far away region, to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
13 Chiamati dieci servi, consegnò loro dieci mine, dicendo: Impiegatele fino al mio ritorno.	13 And calling his ten servants, he gave them ten pounds, and he said to them: ‘Do business until I return.’
14 Ma i suoi cittadini lo odiavano e gli mandarono dietro un'ambasceria a dire: Non vogliamo che costui venga a regnare su di noi.	14 But his citizens hated him. And so they sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this one to reign over us.’
15 Quando fu di ritorno, dopo aver ottenuto il titolo di re, fece chiamare i servi ai quali aveva consegnato il denaro, per vedere quanto ciascuno avesse guadagnato.	15 And it happened that he returned, having received the kingdom. And he ordered the servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called so that he would know how much each one had earned by doing business.
16 Si presentò il primo e disse: Signore, la tua mina ha fruttato altre dieci mine.	16 Now the first approached, saying: ‘Lord, your one pound has earned ten pounds.’
17 Gli disse: Bene, bravo servitore; poiché ti sei mostrato fedele nel poco, ricevi il potere sopra dieci città.	17 And he said to him: ‘Well done, good servant. Since you have been faithful in a small matter, you will hold authority over ten cities.’
18 Poi si presentò il secondo e disse: La tua mina, signore, ha fruttato altre cinque mine.	18 And the second came, saying: ‘Lord, your one pound has earned five pounds.’
19 Anche a questo disse: Anche tu sarai a capo di cinque città.	19 And he said to him, ‘And so, you shall be over five cities.’
20 Venne poi anche l'altro e disse: Signore, ecco la tua mina, che ho tenuta riposta in un fazzoletto;	20 And another approached, saying: ‘Lord, behold your one pound, which I kept stored in a cloth.
21 avevo paura di te che sei un uomo severo e prendi quello che non hai messo in deposito, mieti quello che non hai seminato.	21 For I feared you, because you are an austere man. You take up what you did not lay down, and you reap what you did not sow.’
22 Gli rispose: Dalle tue stesse parole ti giudico, servo malvagio! Sapevi che sono un uomo severo, che prendo quello che non ho messo in deposito e mieto quello che non ho seminato:	22 He said to him: ‘By your own mouth, do I judge you, O wicked servant. You knew that I am an austere man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow.
23 perché allora non hai consegnato il mio denaro a una banca? Al mio ritorno l'avrei riscosso con gli interessi.	23 And so, why did you not give my money to the bank, so that, upon my return, I might have withdrawn it with interest?’
24 Disse poi ai presenti: Toglietegli la mina e datela a colui che ne ha dieci	24 And he said to the bystanders, ‘Take the pound away from him, and give it to him who has ten pounds.’
25 Gli risposero: Signore, ha già dieci mine!	25 And they said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten pounds.’
26 Vi dico: A chiunque ha sarà dato; ma a chi non ha sarà tolto anche quello che ha.	26 So then, I say to you, that to all who have, it shall be given, and he will have in abundance. And from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.
27 E quei miei nemici che non volevano che diventassi loro re, conduceteli qui e uccideteli davanti a me".	27 ‘Yet truly, as for those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here, and put them to death before me.’ ”
28 Dette queste cose, Gesù proseguì avanti agli altri salendo verso Gerusalemme.	28 And having said these things, he went ahead, ascending to Jerusalem.
29 Quando fu vicino a Bètfage e a Betània, presso il monte detto degli Ulivi, inviò due discepoli dicendo:	29 And it happened that, when he had drawn near to Bethphage and Bethania, to the mount which is called Olivet, he sent two of his disciples,
30 "Andate nel villaggio di fronte; entrando, troverete un puledro legato, sul quale nessuno è mai salito; scioglietelo e portatelo qui.	30 saying: “Go into the town which is opposite you. Upon entering it, you will find the colt of a donkey, tied, on which no man has ever sat. Untie it, and lead it here.
31 E se qualcuno vi chiederà: Perché lo sciogliete?, direte così: Il Signore ne ha bisogno".	31 And if anyone will ask you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this to him: ‘Because the Lord has requested its service.’ ”
32 Gli inviati andarono e trovarono tutto come aveva detto.	32 And those who were sent went out, and they found the colt standing, just as he told them.
33 Mentre scioglievano il puledro, i proprietari dissero loro: "Perché sciogliete il puledro?".	33 Then, as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?”
34 Essi risposero: "Il Signore ne ha bisogno".	34 So they said, “Because the Lord has need of it.”
35 Lo condussero allora da Gesù; e gettati i loro mantelli sul puledro, vi fecero salire Gesù.	35 And they led it to Jesus. And casting their garments on the colt, they helped Jesus onto it.
36 Via via che egli avanzava, stendevano i loro mantelli sulla strada.	36 Then, as he was traveling, they were laying down their garments along the way.
37 Era ormai vicino alla discesa del monte degli Ulivi, quando tutta la folla dei discepoli, esultando, cominciò a lodare Dio a gran voce, per tutti i prodigi che avevano veduto, dicendo:	37 And when he was now drawing near to the descent of Mount Olivet, the entire crowd of his disciples began to praise God joyfully, with a loud voice, over all the powerful works which they had seen,
38 "'Benedetto colui che viene,' il re, 'nel nome del Signore'. Pace in cielo e gloria nel più alto dei cieli!".	38 saying: “Blessed is the king who has arrived in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory on high!”
39 Alcuni farisei tra la folla gli dissero: "Maestro, rimprovera i tuoi discepoli".	39 And certain Pharisees within the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.”
40 Ma egli rispose: "Vi dico che, se questi taceranno, grideranno le pietre".	40 And he said to them, “I tell you, that if these will keep silent, the stones themselves will cry out.”
41 Quando fu vicino, alla vista della città, pianse su di essa, dicendo:	41 And when he drew near, seeing the city, he wept over it, saying:
42 "Se avessi compreso anche tu, in questo giorno, la via della pace. Ma ormai è stata nascosta ai tuoi occhi.	42 “If only you had known, indeed even in this your day, which things are for your peace. But now they are hidden from your eyes.
43 Giorni verranno per te in cui i tuoi nemici ti cingeranno di trincee, ti circonderanno e ti stringeranno da ogni parte;	43 For the days will overtake you. And your enemies will encircle you with a valley. And they will surround you and hem you in on every side.
44 abbatteranno te e i tuoi figli dentro di te e non lasceranno in te pietra su pietra, perché non hai riconosciuto il tempo in cui sei stata visitata".	44 And they will knock you down to the ground, with your sons who are in you. And they will not leave stone upon stone within you, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”
45 Entrato poi nel tempio, cominciò a cacciare i venditori,	45 And entering into the temple, he began to cast out those who sold in it, and those who bought,
46 dicendo: "Sta scritto: 'La mia casa sarà casa di preghiera'. Ma voi ne avete fatto 'una spelonca di ladri!'".	46 saying to them: “It is written: ‘My house is a house of prayer.’ But you have made it into a den of robbers.”
47 Ogni giorno insegnava nel tempio. I sommi sacerdoti e gli scribi cercavano di farlo perire e così anche i notabili del popolo;	47 And he was teaching in the temple daily. And the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, and the leaders of the people were seeking to destroy him.
48 ma non sapevano come fare, perché tutto il popolo pendeva dalle sue parole.	48 But they could not find what to do to him. For all the people were listening to him attentively.
