1 Il figlio saggio ama la disciplina, lo spavaldo non ascolta il rimprovero.	1 A wise child listens to a father's discipline, a cynic wil not listen to reproof.
2 Del frutto della sua bocca l'uomo mangia ciò che è buono; l'appetito dei perfidi si soddisfa con i soprusi.	2 The fruit of the mouth provides a good meal, but the soul of the treacherous feeds on violence.
3 Chi sorveglia la sua bocca conserva la vita, chi apre troppo le labbra incontra la rovina.	3 A guard on the mouth makes life secure, whoever talks too much is lost.
4 Il pigro brama, ma non c'è nulla per il suo appetito; l'appetito dei diligenti sarà soddisfatto.	4 The idler hungers but has no food; hard workers get their fill.
5 Il giusto odia la parola falsa, l'empio calunnia e disonora.	5 The upright hates a lying word, but the wicked slanders and defames.
6 La giustizia custodisce chi ha una condotta integra, il peccato manda in rovina l'empio.	6 Uprightness stands guard over one whose way is honest, sin causes the ruin of the wicked.
7 C'è chi fa il ricco e non ha nulla; c'è chi fa il povero e ha molti beni.	7 There are some who, on nothing, pretend to be rich, some, with great wealth, pretend to be poor.
8 Riscatto della vita d'un uomo è la sua ricchezza, ma il povero non si accorge della minaccia.	8 The ransom for life is a person's wealth; but the poor wil not hear the reproof.
9 La luce dei giusti allieta, la lucerna degli empi si spegne.	9 The light of the upright is joyful, the lamp of the wicked goes out.
10 L'insolenza provoca soltanto contese, la sapienza si trova presso coloro che prendono consiglio.	10 Insolence breeds only disputes, wisdom lies with those who take advice.
11 Le ricchezze accumulate in fretta diminuiscono, chi le raduna a poco a poco le accresce.	11 A sudden fortune wil dwindle away, accumulation little by little is the way to riches.
12 Un'attesa troppo prolungata fa male al cuore, un desiderio soddisfatto è albero di vita.	12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, desire fulfil ed is a tree of life.
13 Chi disprezza la parola si rovinerà, chi rispetta un comando ne avrà premio.	13 Contempt for the word is self-destructive, respect for the commandment wins salvation.
14 L'insegnamento del saggio è fonte di vita per evitare i lacci della morte.	14 The teaching of the wise is a life-giving fountain for eluding the snares of death.
15 Un aspetto buono procura favore, ma il contegno dei perfidi è rude.	15 Good sense wins favour, but the way of the treacherous is hard.
16 L'accorto agisce sempre con riflessione, lo stolto mette in mostra la stoltezza.	16 Anyone of discretion acts by the light of knowledge, the fool parades his fol y.
17 Un cattivo messaggero causa sciagure, un inviato fedele apporta salute.	17 A bad messenger fal s into misfortune, a trusty messenger brings healing.
18 Povertà e ignominia a chi rifiuta l'istruzione, chi tien conto del rimprovero sarà onorato.	18 Whoever rejects discipline wins poverty and scorn; for anyone who accepts correction: honour.
19 Desiderio soddisfatto è una dolcezza al cuore, ma è abominio per gli stolti staccarsi dal male.	19 Desire fulfil ed is sweet to the soul; fools are loth to turn -- from evil.
20 Va' con i saggi e saggio diventerai, chi pratica gli stolti ne subirà danno.	20 Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, whoever mixes with fools wil be ruined.
21 La sventura perseguita i peccatori, il benessere ripagherà i giusti.	21 Evil wil pursue the sinner, but good wil reward the upright.
22 L'uomo dabbene lascia eredi i nipoti, la proprietà del peccatore è riservata al giusto.	22 The good bequeaths a heritage to children's children, the wealth of the sinner is stored away for theupright.
23 Il potente distrugge il podere dei poveri e c'è chi è eliminato senza processo.	23 Though the farms of the poor yield much food, some perish for lack of justice.
24 Chi risparmia il bastone odia suo figlio, chi lo ama è pronto a correggerlo.	24 Whoever fails to use the stick hates his child; whoever is free with correction loves him.
25 Il giusto mangia a sazietà, ma il ventre degli empi soffre la fame.	25 The upright eats to the full, the bel y of the wicked goes empty.
