1 Il figlio saggio ama la disciplina, lo spavaldo non ascolta il rimprovero.	1 A wise son loves correction, but the senseless one heeds no rebuke.
2 Del frutto della sua bocca l'uomo mangia ciò che è buono; l'appetito dei perfidi si soddisfa con i soprusi.	2 From the fruit of his words a man eats good things, but the treacherous one craves violence.
3 Chi sorveglia la sua bocca conserva la vita, chi apre troppo le labbra incontra la rovina.	3 He who guards his mouth protects his life; to open wide one's lips brings downfall.
4 Il pigro brama, ma non c'è nulla per il suo appetito; l'appetito dei diligenti sarà soddisfatto.	4 The soul of the sluggard craves in vain, but the diligent soul is amply satisfied.
5 Il giusto odia la parola falsa, l'empio calunnia e disonora.	5 Anything deceitful the just man hates, but the wicked brings shame and disgrace.
6 La giustizia custodisce chi ha una condotta integra, il peccato manda in rovina l'empio.	6 Virtue guards one who walks honestly, but the downfall of the wicked is sin.
7 C'è chi fa il ricco e non ha nulla; c'è chi fa il povero e ha molti beni.	7 One man pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.
8 Riscatto della vita d'un uomo è la sua ricchezza, ma il povero non si accorge della minaccia.	8 A man's riches serve as ransom for his life, but the poor man heeds no rebuke.
9 La luce dei giusti allieta, la lucerna degli empi si spegne.	9 The light of the just shines gaily, but the lamp of the wicked goes out.
10 L'insolenza provoca soltanto contese, la sapienza si trova presso coloro che prendono consiglio.	10 The stupid man sows discord by his insolence, but with those who take counsel is wisdom.
11 Le ricchezze accumulate in fretta diminuiscono, chi le raduna a poco a poco le accresce.	11 Wealth quickly gotten dwindles away, but amassed little by little, it grows.
12 Un'attesa troppo prolungata fa male al cuore, un desiderio soddisfatto è albero di vita.	12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a wish fulfilled is a tree of life.
13 Chi disprezza la parola si rovinerà, chi rispetta un comando ne avrà premio.	13 He who despises the word must pay for it, but he who reveres the commandment will be rewarded.
14 L'insegnamento del saggio è fonte di vita per evitare i lacci della morte.	14 The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, that a man may avoid the snares of death.
15 Un aspetto buono procura favore, ma il contegno dei perfidi è rude.	15 Good sense brings favor, but the way of the faithless is their ruin.
16 L'accorto agisce sempre con riflessione, lo stolto mette in mostra la stoltezza.	16 The shrewd man does everything with prudence, but the fool peddles folly.
17 Un cattivo messaggero causa sciagure, un inviato fedele apporta salute.	17 A wicked messenger brings on disaster, but a trustworthy envoy is a healing remedy.
18 Povertà e ignominia a chi rifiuta l'istruzione, chi tien conto del rimprovero sarà onorato.	18 Poverty and shame befall the man who disregards correction, but he who heeds reproof is honored.
19 Desiderio soddisfatto è una dolcezza al cuore, ma è abominio per gli stolti staccarsi dal male.	19 Lust indulged starves the soul, but fools hate to turn from evil.
20 Va' con i saggi e saggio diventerai, chi pratica gli stolti ne subirà danno.	20 Walk with wise men and you will become wise, but the companion of fools will fare badly.
21 La sventura perseguita i peccatori, il benessere ripagherà i giusti.	21 Misfortune pursues sinners, but the just shall be recompensed with good.
22 L'uomo dabbene lascia eredi i nipoti, la proprietà del peccatore è riservata al giusto.	22 The good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the just.
23 Il potente distrugge il podere dei poveri e c'è chi è eliminato senza processo.	23 A lawsuit devours the tillage of the poor, but some men perish for lack of a law court.
24 Chi risparmia il bastone odia suo figlio, chi lo ama è pronto a correggerlo.	24 He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him takes care to chastise him.
25 Il giusto mangia a sazietà, ma il ventre degli empi soffre la fame.	25 When the just man eats, his hunger is appeased; but the belly of the wicked suffers want.
