| 1 E voi che eravate morti per le vostre colpe e per i vostri peccati, | 1 And you he made alive, when you were dead through the trespasses and sins |
| 2 nei quali camminavate un tempo secondo il costume di questo mondo, alla sequela del principe della potestà dell'aria, dello spirito che opera in coloro che non obbediscono. | 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience. |
| 3 Tra questi anche noi tutti vivemmo un tempo secondo le nostre passioni carnali, seguendo i desideri della carne e dei malvagi pensieri, ed eravamo così, a causa delle naturali inclinazioni, oggetto, dell’ira alla stessa guisa degli altri. | 3 Among these we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, following the desires of body and mind, and so we were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. |
| 4 Ma Dio ricco in misericordia, per la grande carità con cui egli ci ha amati, | 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us, |

| 7 per dimostrare nei secoli avvenire la sovrabbondante ricchezza della sua carità, per la sua bontà verso di noi in Cristo Gesù. | 7 that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. |
| 8 Poiché per la grazia siete stati salvati, per mezzo della fede; e questo non da voi, che è dono di Dio; | 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God -- |
| 9 non per le opere, affinché nessuno abbia a vantarsi. | 9 not because of works, lest any man should boast. |

| 12 che eravate un tempo senza Cristo, esclusi dalla cittadinanza d’Israele, ed estranei alle alleanze della promessa, privi di speranza e senza Dio in questo mordo. | 12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. |
| 13 Ora, invece, in Cristo Gesù, voi che eravate un tempo lontani siete divenuti vicini in virtù del sangue di Cristo. | 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near in the blood of Christ. |
| 14 Egli, infatti, è la nostra pace, colui che dei due ha fatto un solo popolo e ha abbattuto il muro che li separava, l’inimicizia, | 14 For he is our peace, who has made us both one, and has broken down the dividing wall of hostility, |
| 15 abolendo nella propria carne questa legge di precetti coi suoi ordinamenti, per formare in se stesso dei due un sol uomo nuovo e fare pace, | 15 by abolishing in his flesh the law of commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, |
| 16 per riconciliarli con Dio, ambedue in un unico corpo, mediante la croce, dopo avere uccisa in se stesso l’inimicizia. | 16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby bringing the hostility to an end. |
| 17 É venuto allora ad annunciare la pace: pace per voi che eravate lontani, e pace per quelli che erano vicini: | 17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near; |
| 18 per lui, infatti, biamo, gli uni e gli altri, in un medesimo Spirito, l’accesso al Padre. | 18 for through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. |
| 19 Così dunque non siete più stranieri e pellegrini, ma siete concittadini dei santi e membri della casa di Dio, | 19 So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, |
| 20 sovraedificati sul fondamento degli apostoli e dei profeti, con lo stesso Cristo Gesù quale pietra angolare. | 20 built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, |
| 21 In lui tutta la costruzione, ben compaginata, cresce come tempio santo nel Signore; | 21 in whom the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; |
| 22 in lui anche voi siete. inseriti nella costruzione per divènire abitazione di Dio nello Spirito. | 22 in whom you also are built into it for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. |
