Job 33

BIBLIA	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Ten a bien, Job, escuchar mis palabras, presta oído a todas mis razones.	1 Therefore, O Job, hear my discourse, and hearken to all my words.
2 Ya ves que he abierto mi boca, en mi paladar habla mi lengua.	2 Behold, now I open my mouth; my tongue and my voice form words.
3 Mi corazón dará palabras cuerdas, la pura verdad dirán mis labios.	3 I will state directly what is in my mind, my lips shall utter knowledge sincerely;
4 El soplo de Dios me hizo, me animó el aliento de Sadday.	4 For the spirit of God has made me, the breath of the Almighty keeps me alive.
5 Si eres capaz, replícame, ¡alerta, ponte en guardia ante mí!	5 If you are able, refute me; draw up your arguments and stand forth.
6 Mira, soy como tú, no soy un dios, también yo de arcilla fui plasmado.	6 Behold I, like yourself, have been taken from the same clay by God.
7 Por eso mi terror no te ha de espantar, no pesará mi mano sobre ti.	7 Therefore no fear of me should dismay you, nor should my presence weigh heavily upon you.
8 No has hecho más que decir a mis propios oídos, - pues he oído el son de tus palabras -:	8 But you have said in my hearing, as I listened to the sound of your words:
9 «Puro soy, sin delito; limpio estoy, no hay culpa en mí.	9 "I am clean and without transgression; I am innocent; there is no guilt in me.
10 Pero él inventa contra mí pretextos, y me reputa como su enemigo;	10 Yet he invents pretexts against me and reckons me as his enemy.
11 mis pies pone en el cepo, espía todas mis sendas.»	11 He puts my feet in the stocks; he watches all my ways!"
12 Pues bien, respondo, en esto no tienes razón, porque Dios es más grande que el hombre.	12 In this you are not just, let me tell you; for God is greater than man.
13 ¿Por qué te querellas tú con él porque no responda a todas tus palabras?	13 Why, then, do you make complaint against him that he gives no account of his doings?
14 Habla Dios una vez, y otra vez, sin que se le haga caso.	14 For God does speak, perhaps once, or even twice, though one perceive it not.
15 En sueños, en visión nocturna, cuando un letargo cae sobre los hombres, mientras están dormidos en su lecho,	15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, (when deep sleep falls upon men) as they slumber in their beds,
16 entonces abre él el oído de los hombres, y con sus apariciones les espanta,	16 It is then he opens the ears of men and as a warning to them, terrifies them;
17 para apartar al hombre de sus obras y acabar con su orgullo de varón,	17 By turning man from evil and keeping pride away from him,
18 para librar su alma de la fosa y su vida de pasar el Canal.	18 He withholds his soul from the pit and his life from passing to the grave.
19 También es corregido por el dolor en su camilla, por el temblor continuo de sus huesos,	19 Or a man is chastened on his bed by pain and unceasing suffering within his frame,
20 cuando a su vida el alimento asquea y a su alma los manjares exquisitos,	20 So that to his appetite food becomes repulsive, and his senses reject the choicest nourishment.
21 cuando su carne desaparece de la vista, y sus huesos, que no se veían, aparecen;	21 His flesh is wasted so that it cannot be seen, and his bones, once invisible, appear;
22 cuando su alma a la fosa se aproxima y su vida a la morada de los muertos.	22 His soul draws near to the pit, his life to the place of the dead.
23 Si hay entonces junto a él un Ángel, un Mediador escogido entre mil, que declare al hombre su deber,	23 If then there be for him an angel, one out of a thousand, a mediator, To show him what is right for him and bring the man back to justice,
24 que de él se apiade y diga: «Líbrale de bajar a la fosa, yo he encontrado el rescate de su alma»,	24 He will take pity on him and say, "Deliver him from going down to the pit; I have found him a ransom."
25 su carne se renueva de vigor juvenil, vuelve a los días de su adolescencia.	25 Then his flesh shall become soft as a boy's; he shall be again as in the days of his youth.
26 Invoca a Dios, que le otorga su favor, y va a ver con júbilo su rostro Anuncia a los demás su justicia,	26 He shall pray and God will favor him; he shall see God's face with rejoicing.
27 canta así entre los hombres: «Yo había pecado y torcido el derecho, mas Dios no me ha dado el merecido.	27 He shall sing before men and say, "I sinned and did wrong, yet he has not punished me accordingly.
28 Ha librado mi alma de pasar por la fosa, y mi vida contempla la luz.»	28 He delivered my soul from passing to the pit, and I behold the light of life."
29 He aquí todo lo que hace Dios, dos y tres veces con el hombre,	29 Lo, all these things God does, twice, or thrice, for a man,
30 para recobrar su alma de la fosa, para que sea alumbrado con la luz de los vivos.	30 Bringing back his soul from the pit to the light, in the land of the living.
31 Atiende, Job, escúchame, guarda silencio, y yo hablaré.	31 Be attentive, O Job; listen to me! Be silent and I will speak.
32 Si tienes algo que decir, replícame, habla, pues yo deseo darte la razón.	32 If you have aught to say, then answer me. Speak out! I should like to see you justified.
33 Si no, escúchame, guarda silencio, y yo te enseñaré sabiduría.	33 If not, then do you listen to me; be silent while I teach you wisdom.
