Mark 15

NEW JERUSALEM	LXX
1 First thing in the morning, the chief priests, together with the elders and scribes and the rest of theSanhedrin, had their plan ready. They had Jesus bound and took him away and handed him over to Pilate.	1 Καὶ εὐθὺς πρωῒ συμβούλιον ποιήσαντες οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς μετὰ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων καὶ γραμματέων καὶ ὅλον τὸ συνέδριον, δήσαντες τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἀπήνεγκαν καὶ παρέδωκαν Πιλάτῳ.
2 Pilate put to him this question, 'Are you the king of the Jews?' He replied, 'It is you who say it.'	2 Καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτὸν ὁ Πιλᾶτος· σὺ εἶ ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων; ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς αὐτῷ λέγει· σὺ λέγεις.
3 And the chief priests brought many accusations against him.	3 καὶ κατηγόρουν αὐτοῦ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς πολλά.
4 Pilate questioned him again, 'Have you no reply at al ? See how many accusations they are bringingagainst you!'	4 ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος πάλιν ἐπηρώτα αὐτὸν λέγων· οὐκ ἀποκρίνῃ οὐδέν; ἴδε πόσα σου κατηγοροῦσιν.
5 But, to Pilate's surprise, Jesus made no further reply.	5 ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς οὐκέτι οὐδὲν ἀπεκρίθη, ὥστε θαυμάζειν τὸν Πιλᾶτον.
6 At festival time Pilate used to release a prisoner for them, any one they asked for.	6 Κατὰ δὲ ἑορτὴν ἀπέλυεν αὐτοῖς ἕνα δέσμιον ὃν παρῃτοῦντο.
7 Now a man called Barabbas was then in prison with the rebels who had committed murder during theuprising.	7 ἦν δὲ ὁ λεγόμενος Βαραββᾶς μετὰ τῶν στασιαστῶν δεδεμένος οἵτινες ἐν τῇ στάσει φόνον πεποιήκεισαν.
8 When the crowd went up and began to ask Pilate the customary favour,	8 καὶ ἀναβὰς ὁ ὄχλος ἤρξατο αἰτεῖσθαι καθὼς ἐποίει αὐτοῖς.
9 Pilate answered them, 'Do you want me to release for you the king of the Jews?'	9 ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος ἀπεκρίθη αὐτοῖς λέγων· θέλετε ἀπολύσω ὑμῖν τὸν βασιλέα τῶν Ἰουδαίων;
10 For he realised it was out of jealousy that the chief priests had handed Jesus over.	10 ἐγίνωσκεν γὰρ ὅτι διὰ φθόνον παραδεδώκεισαν αὐτὸν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς.
11 The chief priests, however, had incited the crowd to demand that he should release Barabbas forthem instead.	11 οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς ἀνέσεισαν τὸν ὄχλον ἵνα μᾶλλον τὸν Βαραββᾶν ἀπολύσῃ αὐτοῖς.
12 Then Pilate spoke again, 'But in that case, what am I to do with the man you call king of the Jews?'	12 ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος πάλιν ἀποκριθεὶς ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς· τί οὖν [θέλετε] ποιήσω [ὃν λέγετε] τὸν βασιλέα τῶν Ἰουδαίων;
13 They shouted back, 'Crucify him!'	13 οἱ δὲ πάλιν ἔκραξαν· σταύρωσον αὐτόν.
14 Pilate asked them, 'What harm has he done?' But they shouted al the louder, 'Crucify him!'	14 ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς· τί γὰρ ἐποίησεν κακόν; οἱ δὲ περισσῶς ἔκραξαν· σταύρωσον αὐτόν.
15 So Pilate, anxious to placate the crowd, released Barabbas for them and, after having Jesusscourged, he handed him over to be crucified.	15 Ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος βουλόμενος τῷ ὄχλῳ τὸ ἱκανὸν ποιῆσαι ἀπέλυσεν αὐτοῖς τὸν Βαραββᾶν, καὶ παρέδωκεν τὸν Ἰησοῦν φραγελλώσας ἵνα σταυρωθῇ.
16 The soldiers led him away to the inner part of the palace, that is, the Praetorium, and cal ed thewhole cohort together.	16 Οἱ δὲ στρατιῶται ἀπήγαγον αὐτὸν ἔσω τῆς αὐλῆς, ὅ ἐστιν πραιτώριον, καὶ συγκαλοῦσιν ὅλην τὴν σπεῖραν.
17 They dressed him up in purple, twisted some thorns into a crown and put it on him.	17 καὶ ἐνδιδύσκουσιν αὐτὸν πορφύραν καὶ περιτιθέασιν αὐτῷ πλέξαντες ἀκάνθινον στέφανον·
18 And they began saluting him, 'Hail, king of the Jews!'	18 καὶ ἤρξαντο ἀσπάζεσθαι αὐτόν· χαῖρε, βασιλεῦ τῶν Ἰουδαίων·
19 They struck his head with a reed and spat on him; and they went down on their knees to do himhomage.	19 καὶ ἔτυπτον αὐτοῦ τὴν κεφαλὴν καλάμῳ καὶ ἐνέπτυον αὐτῷ καὶ τιθέντες τὰ γόνατα προσεκύνουν αὐτῷ.
20 And when they had finished making fun of him, they took off the purple and dressed him in his ownclothes. They led him out to crucify him.	20 Καὶ ὅτε ἐνέπαιξαν αὐτῷ, ἐξέδυσαν αὐτὸν τὴν πορφύραν καὶ ἐνέδυσαν αὐτὸν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ. Καὶ ἐξάγουσιν αὐτὸν ἵνα σταυρώσωσιν αὐτόν.
21 They enlisted a passer-by, Simon of Cyrene, father of Alexander and Rufus, who was coming in fromthe country, to carry his cross.	21 καὶ ἀγγαρεύουσιν παράγοντά τινα Σίμωνα Κυρηναῖον ἐρχόμενον ἀπ’ ἀγροῦ, τὸν πατέρα Ἀλεξάνδρου καὶ Ῥούφου, ἵνα ἄρῃ τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ.
22 They brought Jesus to the place cal ed Golgotha, which means the place of the skul .	22 Καὶ φέρουσιν αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὸν Γολγοθᾶν τόπον, ὅ ἐστιν μεθερμηνευόμενον Κρανίου Τόπος.
23 They offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he refused it.	23 καὶ ἐδίδουν αὐτῷ ἐσμυρνισμένον οἶνον· ὃς δὲ οὐκ ἔλαβεν.
24 Then they crucified him, and shared out his clothing, casting lots to decide what each should get.	24 Καὶ σταυροῦσιν αὐτὸν καὶ διαμερίζονται τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ βάλλοντες κλῆρον ἐπ’ αὐτὰ τίς τί ἄρῃ.
25 It was the third hour when they crucified him.	25 ἦν δὲ ὥρα τρίτη καὶ ἐσταύρωσαν αὐτόν.
26 The inscription giving the charge against him read, 'The King of the Jews'.	26 καὶ ἦν ἡ ἐπιγραφὴ τῆς αἰτίας αὐτοῦ ἐπιγεγραμμένη· ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων.
27 And they crucified two bandits with him, one on his right and one on his left.	27 Καὶ σὺν αὐτῷ σταυροῦσιν δύο λῃστάς, ἕνα ἐκ δεξιῶν καὶ ἕνα ἐξ εὐωνύμων αὐτοῦ.

29 The passers-by jeered at him; they shook their heads and said, 'Aha! So you would destroy theTemple and rebuild it in three days!	29 Καὶ οἱ παραπορευόμενοι ἐβλασφήμουν αὐτὸν κινοῦντες τὰς κεφαλὰς αὐτῶν καὶ λέγοντες· οὐὰ ὁ καταλύων τὸν ναὸν καὶ οἰκοδομῶν ἐν τρισὶν ἡμέραις,
30 Then save yourself; come down from the cross!'	30 σῶσον σεαυτὸν καταβὰς ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ.
31 The chief priests and the scribes mocked him among themselves in the same way with the words,'He saved others, he cannot save himself.	31 ὁμοίως καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς ἐμπαίζοντες πρὸς ἀλλήλους μετὰ τῶν γραμματέων ἔλεγον· ἄλλους ἔσωσεν, ἑαυτὸν οὐ δύναται σῶσαι·
32 Let the Christ, the king of Israel, come down from the cross now, for us to see it and believe.' Eventhose who were crucified with him taunted him.	32 ὁ χριστὸς ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ καταβάτω νῦν ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ, ἵνα ἴδωμεν καὶ πιστεύσωμεν. καὶ οἱ συνεσταυρωμένοι σὺν αὐτῷ ὠνείδιζον αὐτόν.
33 When the sixth hour came there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.	33 Καὶ γενομένης ὥρας ἕκτης σκότος ἐγένετο ἐφ’ ὅλην τὴν γῆν ἕως ὥρας ἐνάτης.
34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, 'Eloi, eloi, lama sabachthani?' which means, 'MyGod, my God, why have you forsaken me?'	34 καὶ τῇ ἐνάτῃ ὥρᾳ ἐβόησεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς φωνῇ μεγάλῃ· ελωι ελωι λεμα σαβαχθανι; ὅ ἐστιν μεθερμηνευόμενον· ὁ θεός μου ὁ θεός μου, εἰς τί ἐγκατέλιπές με;
35 When some of those who stood by heard this, they said, 'Listen, he is cal ing on Elijah.'	35 καί τινες τῶν παρεστηκότων ἀκούσαντες ἔλεγον· ἴδε Ἠλίαν φωνεῖ.
36 Someone ran and soaked a sponge in vinegar and, putting it on a reed, gave it to him to drink saying,'Wait! And see if Elijah wil come to take him down.'	36 δραμὼν δέ τις [καὶ] γεμίσας σπόγγον ὄξους περιθεὶς καλάμῳ ἐπότιζεν αὐτὸν λέγων· ἄφετε ἴδωμεν εἰ ἔρχεται Ἠλίας καθελεῖν αὐτόν.
37 But Jesus gave a loud cry and breathed his last.	37 ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ἀφεὶς φωνὴν μεγάλην ἐξέπνευσεν.
38 And the veil of the Sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom.	38 Καὶ τὸ καταπέτασμα τοῦ ναοῦ ἐσχίσθη εἰς δύο ἀπ’ ἄνωθεν ἕως κάτω.
39 The centurion, who was standing in front of him, had seen how he had died, and he said, 'In truth thisman was Son of God.'	39 Ἰδὼν δὲ ὁ κεντυρίων ὁ παρεστηκὼς ἐξ ἐναντίας αὐτοῦ ὅτι οὕτως ἐξέπνευσεν εἶπεν· ἀληθῶς οὗτος ὁ ἄνθρωπος υἱὸς θεοῦ ἦν.
40 There were some women watching from a distance. Among them were Mary of Magdala, Mary whowas the mother of James the younger and Joset, and Salome.	40 Ἦσαν δὲ καὶ γυναῖκες ἀπὸ μακρόθεν θεωροῦσαι, ἐν αἷς καὶ Μαρία ἡ Μαγδαληνὴ καὶ Μαρία ἡ Ἰακώβου τοῦ μικροῦ καὶ Ἰωσῆτος μήτηρ καὶ Σαλώμη,
41 These used to follow him and look after him when he was in Galilee. And many other women werethere who had come up to Jerusalem with him.	41 αἳ ὅτε ἦν ἐν τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ ἠκολούθουν αὐτῷ καὶ διηκόνουν αὐτῷ, καὶ ἄλλαι πολλαὶ αἱ συναναβᾶσαι αὐτῷ εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα.
42 It was now evening, and since it was Preparation Day -- that is, the day before the Sabbath-	42 Καὶ ἤδη ὀψίας γενομένης, ἐπεὶ ἦν παρασκευὴ ὅ ἐστιν προσάββατον,
43 there came Joseph of Arimathaea, a prominent member of the Council, who himself lived in the hopeof seeing the kingdom of God, and he boldly went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.	43 ἐλθὼν Ἰωσὴφ [ὁ] ἀπὸ Ἁριμαθαίας εὐσχήμων βουλευτής, ὃς καὶ αὐτὸς ἦν προσδεχόμενος τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ, τολμήσας εἰσῆλθεν πρὸς τὸν Πιλᾶτον καὶ ᾐτήσατο τὸ σῶμα τοῦ Ἰησοῦ.
44 Pilate, astonished that he should have died so soon, summoned the centurion and enquired if he hadbeen dead for some time.	44 ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος ἐθαύμασεν εἰ ἤδη τέθνηκεν καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος τὸν κεντυρίωνα ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτὸν εἰ πάλαι ἀπέθανεν·
45 Having been assured of this by the centurion, he granted the corpse to Joseph	45 καὶ γνοὺς ἀπὸ τοῦ κεντυρίωνος ἐδωρήσατο τὸ πτῶμα τῷ Ἰωσήφ.
46 who bought a shroud, took Jesus down from the cross, wrapped him in the shroud and laid him in atomb which had been hewn out of the rock. He then rol ed a stone against the entrance to the tomb.	46 Καὶ ἀγοράσας σινδόνα καθελὼν αὐτὸν ἐνείλησεν τῇ σινδόνι καὶ ἔθηκεν αὐτὸν ἐν μνημείῳ ὃ ἦν λελατομημένον ἐκ πέτρας καὶ προσεκύλισεν λίθον ἐπὶ τὴν θύραν τοῦ μνημείου.
47 Mary of Magdala and Mary the mother of Joset took note of where he was laid.	47 ἡ δὲ Μαρία ἡ Μαγδαληνὴ καὶ Μαρία ἡ Ἰωσῆτος ἐθεώρουν ποῦ τέθειται.
