Mark 15

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 First thing in the morning, the chief priests, together with the elders and scribes and the rest of theSanhedrin, had their plan ready. They had Jesus bound and took him away and handed him over to Pilate.	1 Et confestim mane consilium facientes summi sacerdotes cum senioribus etscribis, id est universum concilium, vincientes Iesum duxerunt et tradideruntPilato.
2 Pilate put to him this question, 'Are you the king of the Jews?' He replied, 'It is you who say it.'	2 Et interrogavit eum Pilatus: “ Tu es rex Iudaeorum? ”. At illerespondens ait illi: “ Tu dicis ”.
3 And the chief priests brought many accusations against him.	3 Et accusabant eum summi sacerdotes inmultis.
4 Pilate questioned him again, 'Have you no reply at al ? See how many accusations they are bringingagainst you!'	4 Pilatus autem rursum interrogabat eum dicens: “ Non respondesquidquam? Vide in quantis te accusant ”.
5 But, to Pilate's surprise, Jesus made no further reply.	5 Iesus autem amplius nihilrespondit, ita ut miraretur Pilatus.
6 At festival time Pilate used to release a prisoner for them, any one they asked for.	6 Per diem autem festum dimittere solebat illis unum ex vinctis, quem peterent.
7 Now a man called Barabbas was then in prison with the rebels who had committed murder during theuprising.	7 Erat autem qui dicebatur Barabbas, vinctus cum seditiosis, qui in seditionefecerant homicidium.
8 When the crowd went up and began to ask Pilate the customary favour,	8 Et cum ascendisset turba, coepit rogare, sicut faciebatillis.
9 Pilate answered them, 'Do you want me to release for you the king of the Jews?'	9 Pilatus autem respondit eis et dixit: “ Vultis dimittam vobis regemIudaeorum? ”.
10 For he realised it was out of jealousy that the chief priests had handed Jesus over.	10 Sciebat enim quod per invidiam tradidissent eum summisacerdotes.
11 The chief priests, however, had incited the crowd to demand that he should release Barabbas forthem instead.	11 Pontifices autem concitaverunt turbam, ut magis Barabbamdimitteret eis.
12 Then Pilate spoke again, 'But in that case, what am I to do with the man you call king of the Jews?'	12 Pilatus autem iterum respondens aiebat illis: “ Quid ergovultis faciam regi Iudaeorum? ”.
13 They shouted back, 'Crucify him!'	13 At illi iterum clamaverunt: “ Crucifigeeum! ”.
14 Pilate asked them, 'What harm has he done?' But they shouted al the louder, 'Crucify him!'	14 Pilatus vero dicebat eis: “ Quid enim mali fecit? ”. At illimagis clamaverunt: “ Crucifige eum! ”.
15 So Pilate, anxious to placate the crowd, released Barabbas for them and, after having Jesusscourged, he handed him over to be crucified.	15 Pilatus autem, volens populosatisfacere, dimisit illis Barabbam et tradidit Iesum flagellis caesum, utcrucifigeretur.
16 The soldiers led him away to the inner part of the palace, that is, the Praetorium, and cal ed thewhole cohort together.	16 Milites autem duxerunt eum intro in atrium, quod est praetorium, et convocanttotam cohortem.
17 They dressed him up in purple, twisted some thorns into a crown and put it on him.	17 Et induunt eum purpuram et imponunt ei plectentes spineamcoronam;
18 And they began saluting him, 'Hail, king of the Jews!'	18 et coeperunt salutare eum: “ Ave, rex Iudaeorum! ”,
19 They struck his head with a reed and spat on him; and they went down on their knees to do himhomage.	19 etpercutiebant caput eius arundine et conspuebant eum et ponentes genua adorabanteum.
20 And when they had finished making fun of him, they took off the purple and dressed him in his ownclothes. They led him out to crucify him.	20 Et postquam illuserunt ei, exuerunt illum purpuram et induerunt eumvestimentis suis. Et educunt illum, ut crucifigerent eum.
21 They enlisted a passer-by, Simon of Cyrene, father of Alexander and Rufus, who was coming in fromthe country, to carry his cross.	21 Et angariant praetereuntem quempiam Simonem Cyrenaeum venientem de villa,patrem Alexandri et Rufi, ut tolleret crucem eius.
22 They brought Jesus to the place cal ed Golgotha, which means the place of the skul .	22 Et perducunt illum inGolgotha locum, quod est interpretatum Calvariae locus.
23 They offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he refused it.	23 Et dabant eimyrrhatum vinum; ille autem non accepit.
24 Then they crucified him, and shared out his clothing, casting lots to decide what each should get.	24 Et crucifigunt eum et dividunt vestimenta eius, mittentes sortem super eis,quis quid tolleret.
25 It was the third hour when they crucified him.	25 Erat autem hora tertia, et crucifixerunt eum.
26 The inscription giving the charge against him read, 'The King of the Jews'.	26 Et erattitulus causae eius inscriptus: “ Rex Iudaeorum ”.
27 And they crucified two bandits with him, one on his right and one on his left.	27 Et cum eo crucifiguntduos latrones, unum a dextris et alium a sinistris eius.

29 The passers-by jeered at him; they shook their heads and said, 'Aha! So you would destroy theTemple and rebuild it in three days!	29 Et praetereuntes blasphemabant eum moventes capita suaet dicentes: “ Vah, qui destruit templum et in tribus diebus aedificat;
30 Then save yourself; come down from the cross!'	30 salvum fac temetipsum descendens de cruce! ”.
31 The chief priests and the scribes mocked him among themselves in the same way with the words,'He saved others, he cannot save himself.	31 Similiter et summi sacerdotesludentes ad alterutrum cum scribis dicebant: “ Alios salvos fecit, seipsum nonpotest salvum facere.
32 Let the Christ, the king of Israel, come down from the cross now, for us to see it and believe.' Eventhose who were crucified with him taunted him.	32 Christus rex Israel descendat nunc de cruce, utvideamus et credamus ”. Etiam qui cum eo crucifixi erant, conviciabantur ei.
33 When the sixth hour came there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.	33 Et, facta hora sexta, tenebrae factae sunt per totam terram usque in horamnonam.
34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, 'Eloi, eloi, lama sabachthani?' which means, 'MyGod, my God, why have you forsaken me?'	34 Et hora nona exclamavit Iesus voce magna: “ Heloi, Heloi, lemasabacthani? ”, quod est interpretatum: “ Deus meus, Deus meus, ut quiddereliquisti me? ”.
35 When some of those who stood by heard this, they said, 'Listen, he is cal ing on Elijah.'	35 Et quidam de circumstantibus audientes dicebant: “Ecce, Eliam vocat ”.
36 Someone ran and soaked a sponge in vinegar and, putting it on a reed, gave it to him to drink saying,'Wait! And see if Elijah wil come to take him down.'	36 Currens autem unus et implens spongiam acetocircumponensque calamo potum dabat ei dicens: “ Sinite, videamus, si veniatElias ad deponendum eum ”.
37 But Jesus gave a loud cry and breathed his last.	37 Iesus autem, emissa voce magna, exspiravit.
38 And the veil of the Sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom.	38 Et velum templi scissum est in duo a sursum usque deorsum.
39 The centurion, who was standing in front of him, had seen how he had died, and he said, 'In truth thisman was Son of God.'	39 Videns autem centurio, qui ex adverso stabat, quia sic clamans exspirasset,ait: “ Vere homo hic Filius Dei erat ”.
40 There were some women watching from a distance. Among them were Mary of Magdala, Mary whowas the mother of James the younger and Joset, and Salome.	40 Erant autem et mulieres de longe aspicientes, inter quas et Maria Magdaleneet Maria Iacobi minoris et Iosetis mater et Salome,
41 These used to follow him and look after him when he was in Galilee. And many other women werethere who had come up to Jerusalem with him.	41 quae, cum esset inGalilaea, sequebantur eum et ministrabant ei, et aliae multae, quae simul cum eoascenderant Hierosolymam.
42 It was now evening, and since it was Preparation Day -- that is, the day before the Sabbath-	42 Et cum iam sero esset factum, quia erat Parasceve, quod est ante sabbatum,
43 there came Joseph of Arimathaea, a prominent member of the Council, who himself lived in the hopeof seeing the kingdom of God, and he boldly went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.	43 venit Ioseph ab Arimathaea nobilis decurio, qui et ipse erat exspectans regnumDei, et audacter introivit ad Pilatum et petiit corpus Iesu.
44 Pilate, astonished that he should have died so soon, summoned the centurion and enquired if he hadbeen dead for some time.	44 Pilatus autemmiratus est si iam obisset, et, accersito centurione, interrogavit eum si iammortuus esset,
45 Having been assured of this by the centurion, he granted the corpse to Joseph	45 et, cum cognovisset a centurione, donavit corpus Ioseph.
46 who bought a shroud, took Jesus down from the cross, wrapped him in the shroud and laid him in atomb which had been hewn out of the rock. He then rol ed a stone against the entrance to the tomb.	46 Isautem mercatus sindonem et deponens eum involvit sindone et posuit eum inmonumento, quod erat excisum de petra, et advolvit lapidem ad ostium monumenti.
47 Mary of Magdala and Mary the mother of Joset took note of where he was laid.	47 Maria autem Magdalene et Maria Iosetis aspiciebant, ubi positus esset.
