Livro dos Provérbios 14

1 A senhora Sabedoria edifica sua casa; a senhora Loucura destrói a sua com as próprias mãos.	1 A wise woman builds up her household. But a foolish one will pull down with her own hands what has been built up.
2 Quem caminha direito teme o Senhor; o que anda desviado o despreza.	2 One who walks on a virtuous journey, and who fears God, is despised by him who advances along a disreputable way.
3 A boca do néscio encerra a vara para seu orgulho, mas os lábios do sábio são uma proteção para si mesmo.	3 In the mouth of the foolish, there is a rod of arrogance. But the lips of the wise guard them.
4 Onde não há bois, a manjedoura está vazia; a abundância da colheita provém da força do gado.	4 Where there are no oxen, the feeding trough is empty. But where there are many crops, there the strength of the ox is manifest.
5 A testemunha fiel não mente; a testemunha falsa profere falsidades.	5 A faithful witness will not lie. But a deceitful witness offers a lie.
6 O mofador busca a sabedoria, mas em vão; ao homem entendido a ciência é fácil.	6 A mocker seeks wisdom and does not find it. The doctrine of the prudent is accessible.
7 Afasta-te da presença do tolo: em seus lábios não encontrarás palavras sábias.	7 Go against a foolish man, and he does not acknowledge lips of prudence.
8 A sabedoria do prudente está no cuidar do seu procedimento; a loucura dos insensatos consiste na fraude.	8 The wisdom of a discerning man is to understand his way. And the imprudence of the foolish is to be wandering astray.
9 O insensato zomba do pecado; a benevolência {de Deus} é para os homens retos.	9 The foolish will speak mockingly of sin. But grace lingers among the just.
10 O coração conhece suas próprias amarguras; o estranho não pode partilhar de sua alegria.	10 The heart that knows the bitterness of its own soul, in its gladness the outsider shall not meddle.
11 A habitação dos pérfidos será destruída, mas a tenda dos justos florescerá.	11 The house of the impious will be wiped away. Yet truly, the tabernacles of the just shall spring forth.
12 Há caminho que parece reto ao homem; seu fim, porém, é o caminho da morte.	12 There is a way which seems just to a man, but its conclusion leads to death.
13 Mesmo no sorrir, o coração pode estar triste; a alegria pode findar na aflição.	13 Laughter shall be mingled with sorrow, and mourning occupies the limits of joy.
14 O extraviado será saciado com seus próprios erros; o homem de bem, com seus atos.	14 The foolish will be filled up by his own ways. And the good man shall be above him.
15 O ingênuo acredita em tudo o que se diz; o prudente vigia seus passos.	15 The innocent trust every word. The astute one considers his own steps. Nothing good will be for the deceitful son. But the wise servant shall act prosperously and his way will be set in order.
16 O sábio teme o mal e dele se aparta, mas o insensato que se eleva dá-se por seguro.	16 The wise fear, and so turn away from evil. The foolish leap ahead with confidence.
17 O homem violento comete loucura; o dissimulado atrai a si o ódio.	17 The impatient will work foolishness. And a resourceful man is hated.
18 Os ingênuos têm por herança a loucura; os prudentes, a ciência como coroa.	18 The childish will possess foolishness, and the discerning will anticipate knowledge.
19 Diante dos bons humilham-se os maus e os ímpios ante as portas do justo.	19 The evil will fall down before the good. And the impious will fall down before the gates of the just.
20 Até mesmo ao seu companheiro o pobre é odioso; numerosos são os amigos do rico.	20 The pauper will be hated, even by his own neighbor. Yet truly, the friends of the wealthy are many.
21 Quem despreza seu próximo comete um pecado; feliz aquele que tem compaixão dos desgraçados.	21 Whoever despises his neighbor, sins. But whoever pities the poor shall be blessed. Whoever trusts in the Lord loves mercy.
22 Porventura não erram os que maquinam o mal? Os que planejam o bem adquirem favor e verdade.	22 They wander astray who work evil. But mercy and truth prepare good things.
23 Para todo esforço há fruto, muito palavrório só produz penúria.	23 In every work, there shall be abundance. But where there are many words, there is often need.
24 Para o sábio a riqueza é uma coroa. A loucura dos insensatos permanece loucura.	24 The crown of the wise is their wealth. The senselessness of the foolish is imprudence.
25 A testemunha fiel salva vidas; o que profere mentiras é falso.	25 A faithful witness frees souls. And the chameleon utters lies.
26 No temor do Senhor {o justo} encontra apoio sólido; seus filhos nele encontrarão abrigo.	26 In the fear of the Lord is the faithfulness of strength, and there shall be hope for his sons.
27 O temor do Senhor é uma fonte de vida para escapar aos laços da morte.	27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, so as to turn aside from the ruin of death.
28 A multidão do povo é a glória de um rei; a falta de população é a ruína de um príncipe.	28 In a multitude of people, there is dignity for the king. And in a paucity of people, there is disgrace for the prince.
29 O paciente dá prova de bom senso; quem se arrebata rapidamente manifesta sua loucura.	29 Whoever is patient is governed by much prudence. But whoever is impatient exalts his foolishness.
30 Um coração tranqüilo é a vida do corpo, enquanto a inveja é a cárie dos ossos.	30 The well-being of the heart is life for the flesh. But envy is decay for the bones.
31 O opressor do pobre ultraja seu criador, mas honra-o o que se compadece do indigente.	31 Whoever slanders the indigent argues against his Maker. But he who has compassion on the poor honors his Maker.
32 É por causa de sua própria malícia que cai o ímpio; o justo, porém, até na morte conserva a confiança.	32 The impious will be expelled in his malice. But the just finds hope even in his own death.
33 No coração do prudente repousa a sabedoria. Entre os tolos ela se fará conhecer?	33 In the heart of the prudent, wisdom finds rest. And so shall he instruct all the uneducated.
34 A justiça enaltece uma nação; o pecado é a vergonha dos povos.	34 Justice elevates a nation. But sin makes the peoples miserable.
35 O servidor inteligente goza do favor do rei, mas a sua ira fere o desonrado.	35 An intelligent minister is acceptable to the king. Whoever is useless shall bear his wrath.
