Bendize, ó minha alma, o Senhor! Senhor, meu Deus, vós sois imensamente grande! De majestade e esplendor vos revestis,1 Alleluia. Confess to the Lord, and invoke his name. Announce his works among the nations.
envolvido de luz como de um manto. Vós estendestes o céu qual pavilhão,2 Sing to him, and sing psalms to him. Describe all his wonders.
acima das águas fixastes vossa morada. De nuvens fazeis vosso carro, andais nas asas do vento;3 Be praised in his holy name. Let the heart of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
fazeis dos ventos os vossos mensageiros, e dos flamejantes relâmpagos vossos ministros.4 Seek the Lord, and be confirmed. Seek his face always.
Fundastes a terra em bases sólidas que são eternamente inabaláveis.5 Remember his miracles, which he has done, his portents and the judgments of his mouth:
Vós a tínheis coberto com o manto do oceano, as águas ultrapassavam as montanhas.6 you offspring of Abraham his servant, you sons of Jacob his elect.
Mas à vossa ameaça elas se afastaram, ao estrondo de vosso trovão estremeceram.7 He is the Lord our God. His judgments are throughout the entire earth.
He has remembered his covenant for all ages: the word that he entrusted to a thousand generations,
And he stationed the same for Jacob with a precept, and for Israel with an eternal testament,
Ali vão beber os animais dos campos, neles matam a sede os asnos selvagens.11 saying: To you, I will give the land of Canaan, the allotment of your inheritance.
Os pássaros do céu vêm aninhar em suas margens, e cantam entre as folhagens.12 Though they may have been but a small number, very few and foreigners there,
Do alto de vossas moradas derramais a chuva nas montanhas, do fruto de vossas obras se farta a terra.13 and though they passed from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people,
Fazeis brotar a relva para o gado, e plantas úteis ao homem, para que da terra possa extrair o pão14 he allowed no man to harm them, and he reproved kings on their behalf.
e o vinho que alegra o coração do homem, o óleo que lhe faz brilhar o rosto e o pão que lhe sustenta as forças.15 Do not be willing to touch my Christ, and do not be willing to malign my prophets.
And he called a famine upon the land, and he crushed every foundation of the bread.
He sent a man before them: Joseph, who had been sold as a slave.
Os altos montes dão abrigo às cabras, e os rochedos aos arganazes.18 They humbled his feet in shackles; the iron pierced his soul,
The eloquence of the Lord inflamed him.
Mal estendeis as trevas e já se faz noite, entram a rondar os animais das selvas.20 The king sent and released him; he was the ruler of the people, and he dismissed him.
He established him as master of his house and ruler of all his possessions,
Mas se retiram ao raiar do sol, e vão se deitar em seus covis.22 so that he might instruct his princes as himself, and teach his elders prudence.
É então que o homem sai para o trabalho, e moureja até o entardecer.23 And Israel entered into Egypt, and Jacob became a sojourner in the land of Ham.
And he helped his people greatly, and he strengthened them over their enemies.
Eis o mar, imenso e vasto, onde, sem conta, se agitam animais grandes e pequenos.25 He turned their heart to hate his people, and to deal deceitfully with his servants.
He sent Moses, his servant, and Aaron, the one whom he chose.
He placed with them signs of his word, and portents in the land of Ham.
Vós lhes dais e eles o recolhem; abris a mão, e se fartam de bens.28 He sent darkness and made it conceal, and he did not afflict them with his speech.
Se desviais o rosto, eles se perturbam; se lhes retirais o sopro, expiram e voltam ao pó donde saíram.29 He turned their waters into blood, and he slaughtered their fish.
Se enviais, porém, o vosso sopro, eles revivem e renovais a face da terra.30 Their land brought forth frogs, even in the inner chambers of their kings.
Ao Senhor, glória eterna; alegre-se o Senhor em suas obras!31 He spoke, and there came forth common flies and gnats, in every region.
Ele, cujo olhar basta para fazer tremer a terra, e cujo contato inflama as montanhas.32 He gave them a shower of hail and a burning fire, in the same land.
Enquanto viver, cantarei à glória do Senhor, salmodiarei ao meu Deus enquanto existir.33 And he struck their vineyards and their fig trees, and he crushed the trees of their region.
Possam minhas palavras lhe ser agradáveis! Minha única alegria se encontra no Senhor.34 He spoke, and the locust came forth, and the caterpillar, of which there was no number.
Aleluia.35 And it devoured all the grass in their land, and it consumed all the fruit of their land.
And he struck all the first-born in their land, the first-fruits of all their labor.
And he led them out with silver and gold, and there was not an infirm one among their tribes.
Egypt was joyful at their departure, for the fear of them lay heavy upon them.
He spread a cloud for their protection, and a fire, to give them light through the night.
They petitioned, and the quail came; and he satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
He ruptured the rock and the waters flowed: rivers gushed in the dry land.
For he had called to mind his holy word, which he kept near to his servant Abraham.
And he led forth his people in exultation, and his elect in rejoicing.
And he gave them the regions of the Gentiles, and they possessed the labors of the peoples,
so that they might observe his justifications, and inquire about his law.
