SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Bendize, ó minha alma, o Senhor! Senhor, meu Deus, vós sois imensamente grande! De majestade e esplendor vos revestis,	1 Bless Yahweh, my soul, Yahweh, my God, how great you are! Clothed in majesty and splendour,
2 envolvido de luz como de um manto. Vós estendestes o céu qual pavilhão,	2 wearing the light as a robe! You stretch out the heavens like a tent,
3 acima das águas fixastes vossa morada. De nuvens fazeis vosso carro, andais nas asas do vento;	3 build your palace on the waters above, making the clouds your chariot, gliding on the wings of thewind,
4 fazeis dos ventos os vossos mensageiros, e dos flamejantes relâmpagos vossos ministros.	4 appointing the winds your messengers, flames of fire your servants.
5 Fundastes a terra em bases sólidas que são eternamente inabaláveis.	5 You fixed the earth on its foundations, for ever and ever it shal not be shaken;
6 Vós a tínheis coberto com o manto do oceano, as águas ultrapassavam as montanhas.	6 you covered it with the deep like a garment, the waters overtopping the mountains.
7 Mas à vossa ameaça elas se afastaram, ao estrondo de vosso trovão estremeceram.	7 At your reproof the waters fled, at the voice of your thunder they sped away,
8 Elevaram-se as montanhas, sulcaram-se os vales nos lugares que vós lhes destinastes.	8 flowing over mountains, down val eys, to the place you had fixed for them;
9 Estabelecestes os limites, que elas não hão de ultrapassar, para que não mais tornem a cobrir a terra.	9 you made a limit they were not to cross, they were not to return and cover the earth.
10 Mandastes as fontes correr em riachos, que serpeiam por entre os montes.	10 In the ravines you opened up springs, running down between the mountains,
11 Ali vão beber os animais dos campos, neles matam a sede os asnos selvagens.	11 supplying water for al the wild beasts; the wild asses quench their thirst,
12 Os pássaros do céu vêm aninhar em suas margens, e cantam entre as folhagens.	12 on their banks the birds of the air make their nests, they sing among the leaves.
13 Do alto de vossas moradas derramais a chuva nas montanhas, do fruto de vossas obras se farta a terra.	13 From your high hal s you water the mountains, satisfying the earth with the fruit of your works:
14 Fazeis brotar a relva para o gado, e plantas úteis ao homem, para que da terra possa extrair o pão	14 for cattle you make the grass grow, and for people the plants they need, to bring forth food from theearth,
15 e o vinho que alegra o coração do homem, o óleo que lhe faz brilhar o rosto e o pão que lhe sustenta as forças.	15 and wine to cheer people's hearts, oil to make their faces glow, food to make them sturdy of heart.
16 As árvores do Senhor são cheias de seiva, assim como os cedros do Líbano que ele plantou.	16 The trees of Yahweh drink their fill, the cedars of Lebanon which he sowed;
17 Lá constroem as aves os seus ninhos, nos ciprestes a cegonha tem sua casa.	17 there the birds build their nests, on the highest branches the stork makes its home;
18 Os altos montes dão abrigo às cabras, e os rochedos aos arganazes.	18 for the wild goats there are the mountains, in the crags the coneys find refuge.
19 Fizestes a lua para indicar os tempos; o sol conhece a hora de se pôr.	19 He made the moon to mark the seasons, the sun knows when to set.
20 Mal estendeis as trevas e já se faz noite, entram a rondar os animais das selvas.	20 You bring on darkness, and night fal s, when al the forest beasts roam around;
21 Rugem os leõezinhos por sua presa, e pedem a Deus o seu sustento.	21 young lions roar for their prey, asking God for their food.
22 Mas se retiram ao raiar do sol, e vão se deitar em seus covis.	22 The sun rises and away they steal, back to their lairs to lie down,
23 É então que o homem sai para o trabalho, e moureja até o entardecer.	23 and man goes out to work, to labour til evening falls.
24 Ó Senhor, quão variadas são as vossas obras! Feitas, todas, com sabedoria, a terra está cheia das coisas que criastes.	24 How countless are your works, Yahweh, al of them made so wisely! The earth is ful of yourcreatures.
25 Eis o mar, imenso e vasto, onde, sem conta, se agitam animais grandes e pequenos.	25 Then there is the sea, with its vast expanses teeming with countless creatures, creatures both greatand smal ;
26 Nele navegam as naus e o Leviatã que criastes para brincar nas ondas.	26 there ships pass to and fro, and Leviathan whom you made to sport with.
27 Todos esses seres esperam de vós que lhes deis de comer em seu tempo.	27 They al depend upon you, to feed them when they need it.
28 Vós lhes dais e eles o recolhem; abris a mão, e se fartam de bens.	28 You provide the food they gather, your open hand gives them their fil .
29 Se desviais o rosto, eles se perturbam; se lhes retirais o sopro, expiram e voltam ao pó donde saíram.	29 Turn away your face and they panic; take back their breath and they die and revert to dust.
30 Se enviais, porém, o vosso sopro, eles revivem e renovais a face da terra.	30 Send out your breath and life begins; you renew the face of the earth.
31 Ao Senhor, glória eterna; alegre-se o Senhor em suas obras!	31 Glory to Yahweh for ever! May Yahweh find joy in his creatures!
32 Ele, cujo olhar basta para fazer tremer a terra, e cujo contato inflama as montanhas.	32 At his glance the earth trembles, at his touch the mountains pour forth smoke.
33 Enquanto viver, cantarei à glória do Senhor, salmodiarei ao meu Deus enquanto existir.	33 I shal sing to Yahweh al my life, make music for my God as long as I live.
34 Possam minhas palavras lhe ser agradáveis! Minha única alegria se encontra no Senhor.	34 May my musings be pleasing to him, for Yahweh gives me joy.
35 Sejam tirados da terra os pecadores e doravante desapareçam os ímpios. Bendize, ó minha alma, ao Senhor! Aleluia.	35 May sinners vanish from the earth, and the wicked exist no more! Bless Yahweh, my soul.
