SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Chama para ver se te respondem; a qual dos santos te dirigirás?	1 Make your appeal then. Wil you find an answer? To which of the holy ones wil you turn?
2 O arrebatamento mata o insensato, a inveja leva o tolo à morte.	2 Resentment kil s the senseless, and anger brings death to the fool.
3 Vi o insensato deitar raiz, e de repente sua morada apodreceu.	3 I have seen the senseless taking root, when a curse fel suddenly on his house.
4 Seus filhos são privados de qualquer socorro, são pisados à porta, ninguém os defende.	4 His children are deprived of prop and stay, ruined at the gate, and no one to defend them;
5 O faminto come sua colheita e a leva embora, por detrás da cerca de espinhos, e os sequiosos engolem seus bens.	5 their harvest goes to feed the hungry, God snatches it from their mouths, and covetous people thirst fortheir possessions.
6 Pois o mal não sai do pó, e o sofrimento não brota da terra:	6 No, misery does not grow out of the soil, nor sorrow spring from the ground.
7 é o homem quem causa o sofrimento como as faíscas voam no ar.	7 It is people who breed trouble for themselves as surely as eagles fly to the height.
8 Por isso, eu rogarei a Deus, apresentarei minha súplica ao Senhor.	8 If I were you, I should appeal to God and lay my case before him.
9 Ele faz coisas grandes e insondáveis, maravilhas incalculáveis;	9 His works are great, past al reckoning, marvels beyond al counting.
10 espalha a chuva sobre a terra, e derrama as águas sobre os campos;	10 He sends down rain to the earth, pours down water on the fields.
11 exalta os humildes, e dá nova alegria aos que estão de luto;	11 If his wil is to raise up the downcast, or exalt the afflicted to the heights of prosperity,
12 frustra os projetos dos maus, cujas mãos não podem executar os planos;	12 he frustrates the plans of the artful so that they cannot succeed in their intrigues.
13 apanha os jeitosos em suas próprias manhas, e os projetos dos astutos se tornam prematuros;	13 He traps the crafty in the snare of their own trickery, throws the plans of the cunning into disarray.
14 em pleno dia encontram as trevas, e andam às apalpadelas ao meio-dia como se fosse noite.	14 In daylight they come up against darkness, and grope their way as if noon were night.
15 Salva o fraco da espada da língua deles, e o pobre da mão do poderoso;	15 He rescues the bankrupt from their jaws, and the needy from the grasp of the mighty.
16 volta a esperança ao infeliz, e é fechada a boca da iniqüidade.	16 Hope springs afresh for the weak, and wickedness must shut its mouth.
17 Bem-aventurado o homem a quem Deus corrige! Não desprezes a lição do Todo-poderoso,	17 Blessed are those whom God corrects! Do not then scorn the lesson of Shaddai!
18 pois ele fere e cuida; se golpeia, sua mão cura.	18 For he who wounds is he who soothes the sore, and the hand that hurts is the hand that heals.
19 Seis vezes te salvará da angústia, e, na sétima, o mal não te atingirá.	19 Six times he wil deliver you from sorrow, and the seventh time, evil wil not touch you.
20 No tempo de fome, te preservará da morte, e, no combate, do gume da espada;	20 In time of famine, he wil save you from death, and in wartime from the stroke of the sword.
21 estarás a coberto do açoite da língua, não terás medo quando vires a ruína;	21 You will be safe from the lash of the tongue, unafraid at the approach of the despoiler.
22 rirás das calamidades e da fome, não temerás as feras selvagens.	22 You will laugh at drought and frost, and have no fear of the beasts of the earth.
23 Farás um pacto com as pedras do chão, e os animais dos campos estarão em paz contigo.	23 You will have a pact with the stones of the field, and live in amity with wild beasts.
24 Dentro de tua tenda conhecerás a paz, visitarás tuas terras, onde nada faltará;	24 You will know that your tent is secure, and your sheepfold unharmed when you inspect it.
25 verás tua posteridade multiplicar-se, e teus descendentes crescerem como a erva dos campos.	25 You will see your descendants multiply, your offspring grow like the grass in the fields.
26 Entrarás maduro no sepulcro, como um feixe de trigo que se recolhe a seu tempo.	26 At a ripe age you wil go to the grave, like a wheatsheaf stacked in due season.
27 Eis o que observamos; é assim; eis o que aprendemos; tira proveito disso.	27 Al this we have observed and it is so! Heed it, you wil be the wiser for it!
