Deuteronomio 6

NOVA VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Haec sunt mandata et praecep ta atque iudicia, quae mandavit Dominus Deus vester, ut docerem vos, et faciatis ea in terra, ad quam transgredimini possidendam;	1 'Such, then, are the commandments, the laws and the customs which Yahweh your God has instructedme to teach you, for you to observe in the country which you are on your way to possess.
2 ut timeas Dominum Deum tuum et custodias omnia praecepta et mandata eius, quae ego praecipio tibi et filiis ac nepotibus tuis, cunctis diebus vitae tuae, ut prolongentur dies tui.	2 And hence, if, throughout your lives, you fear Yahweh your God and keep al his laws andcommandments, which I am laying down for you today, you wil live long, you and your child and your grandchild.
3 Audi, Israel, et observa, ut facias, et bene sit tibi, et multipliceris amplius, sicut pollicitus est Dominus, Deus patrum tuorum, tibi terram lacte et melle manantem.	3 Listen then, Israel, keep and observe what wil make you prosperous and numerous, as Yahweh, Godof your ancestors, has promised you, in giving you a country flowing with milk and honey.
4 Audi, Israel: Dominus Deus noster Dominus unus est.	4 'Listen, Israel: Yahweh our God is the one, the only Yahweh.
5 Diliges Dominum Deum tuum ex toto corde tuo et ex tota anima tua et ex tota fortitudine tua.	5 You must love Yahweh your God with al your heart, with al your soul, with al your strength.
6 Eruntque verba haec, quae ego praecipio tibi hodie, in corde tuo,	6 Let the words I enjoin on you today stay in your heart.
7 et inculcabis ea filiis tuis et loqueris ea sedens in domo tua et ambulans in itinere, decumbens atque consurgens;	7 You shal tel them to your children, and keep on tel ing them, when you are sitting at home, when youare out and about, when you are lying down and when you are standing up;
8 et ligabis ea quasi signum in manu tua, eruntque quasi appensum quid inter oculos tuos,	8 you must fasten them on your hand as a sign and on your forehead as a headband;
9 scribesque ea in postibus domus tuae et in portis tuis.	9 you must write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
10 Cumque introduxerit te Dominus Deus tuus in terram, pro qua iuravit patribus tuis Abraham, Isaac et Iacob, ut daret tibi, civitates magnas et optimas, quas non aedificasti,	10 'When Yahweh has brought you into the country which he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaacand Jacob that he would give you, with great and prosperous cities you have not built,
11 domos plenas cunctarum opum, quas non implevisti, cisternas, quas non fodisti, vineta et oliveta, quae non plantasti, et comederis et saturatus fueris,	11 with houses full of good things you have not provided, with wel s you have not dug, with vineyards andolive trees you have not planted, and then, when you have eaten as much as you want,
12 cave diligenter, ne obliviscaris Domini, qui eduxit te de terra Aegypti, de domo servitutis:	12 be careful you do not forget Yahweh who has brought you out of Egypt, out of the place of slave-labour.
13 Dominum Deum tuum timebis et ipsi servies ac per nomen illius iurabis.	13 Yahweh your God is the one you must fear, him alone you must serve, his is the name by which youmust swear.
14 Non ibitis post deos alienos, de diis gentium, quae in circuitu vestro sunt,	14 'Do not fol ow other gods, gods of the peoples round you,
15 quoniam Deus aemulator Dominus Deus tuus in medio tui; ne quando irascatur furor Domini Dei tui contra te et auferat te de superficie terrae.	15 for Yahweh your God among you is a jealous God; the wrath of Yahweh your God would blaze outagainst you, and he would wipe you off the face of the earth.
16 Non tentabitis Dominum Deum vestrum, sicut tentastis in Massa.	16 Do not put Yahweh your God to the test as you tested him at Massah.
17 Custodite mandata Domini Dei vestri ac testimonia et praecepta, quae praecepit tibi;	17 Keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, and his instructions and laws which he has laid downfor you,
18 et fac, quod rectum est et bonum in conspectu Domini, ut bene sit tibi, et ingressus possideas terram optimam, de qua iuravit Dominus patribus tuis,	18 and do what Yahweh regards as right and good, so that you may prosper and take possession of thefine country which Yahweh swore to give your ancestors,
19 ut deleret omnes inimicos tuos coram te, sicut locutus est Dominus.	19 driving out your enemies before you; such was Yahweh's promise.
20 Cumque interrogaverit te filius tuus cras dicens: “Quid sibi volunt testimonia haec et praecepta atque iudicia, quae praecepit Dominus Deus noster vobis?”,	20 'In times to come, when your child asks you, "What is the meaning of these instructions, laws andcustoms which Yahweh our God has laid down for you?"
21 dices ei: “Servi eramus pharaonis in Aegypto, et eduxit nos Dominus de Aegypto in manu forti	21 you are to tel your child, "Once we were Pharaoh's slaves in Egypt, and Yahweh brought us out ofEgypt by his mighty hand.
22 fecitque signa atque prodigia magna et pessima in Aegypto contra pharaonem et omnem domum illius in conspectu nostro;	22 Before our eyes, Yahweh worked great and terrible signs and wonders against Egypt, againstPharaoh and his entire household.
23 et eduxit nos inde, ut introductis daret terram, super qua iuravit patribus nostris.	23 And he brought us out of there, to lead us into the country which he had sworn to our ancestors thathe would give us.
24 Praecepitque nobis Dominus, ut faciamus omnia praecepta haec et timeamus Dominum Deum nostrum, et bene sit nobis cunctis diebus vitae nostrae, sicut est hodie.	24 And Yahweh has commanded us to observe all these laws and to fear Yahweh our God, so as to behappy for ever and to survive, as we do to this day.
25 Eritque iustitia nobis, si custodierimus et fecerimus omnia mandata haec coram Domino Deo nostro, sicut mandavit nobis”.	25 For us, right living wil mean this: to keep and observe al these commandments in obedience toYahweh our God, as he has commanded us." '
