Amos 3

NOVA VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Audite verbum hoc, quod locutus est Dominus super vos, filii Israel,super omnem cognationem, quam eduxi de terra Aegypti, dicens:	1 Listen, Israelites, to this prophecy which Yahweh pronounces against you, against the whole familywhich I brought up from Egypt:
2 “ Tantummodovos cognovi ex omnibus cognationibus terrae; idcirco visitabo super vos omnes iniquitates vestras.	2 You alone have I intimately known of all the families of earth, that is why I shal punish you for al yourwrong-doings.
3 Numquid ambulabunt duo pariter, nisi convenerint?	3 Do two people travel together unless they have agreed to do so?
4 Numquid rugiet leo in saltu, nisi habuerit praedam? Numquid dabit catulus leonis vocem de cubili suo, nisi aliquid apprehenderit?	4 Does the lion roar in the forest if it has no prey? Does the young lion growl in his lair if it has caughtnothing?
5 Numquid cadet avis super terram absque laqueo? Numquid laxatur laqueus de terra, antequam quid ceperit?	5 Does a bird fall on the ground in a net unless a trap has been set for it? Will the net spring up from theground without catching something?
6 Si clanget tuba in civitate, populus non expavescet? Si erit malum in civitate, nonne Dominus fecit?	6 Does the trumpet sound in the city without the people being alarmed? Does misfortune come to a city ifYahweh has not caused it?
7 Nihil enim faciet Dominus Deus, nisi revelaverit secretum suum ad servos suos prophetas.	7 No indeed, Lord Yahweh does nothing without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets.
8 Leo rugit, quis non timebit? Dominus Deus locutus est, quis non prophetabit?	8 The lion roars: who is not afraid? Lord Yahweh has spoken: who will not prophesy?
9 Auditum facite in aedibus Assyriae et in aedibus terrae Aegypti et dicite: “Congregamini super montes Samariae”; et videte insanias multas in medio eius et oppressos in sinu eius.	9 From the palace roofs of Assyria and from the palace roofs of Egypt, proclaim aloud, 'Assemble on thehil s of Samaria and observe the grave disorders inside her and the acts of oppression there!'
10 Et nescierunt facere rectum, dicit Dominus, thesaurizantes violentiam et rapinas in aedibus suis ”.	10 Little they know of right conduct -declares Yahweh- who cram their palaces with violence andextortion.
11 Propterea haec dicit Dominus Deus: “ Inimicus circumdabit terram, et detrahetur ex te fortitudo tua, et diripientur aedes tuae ”.	11 This is why -- Lord Yahweh says this- an enemy will soon besiege the land, he wil bring down yourstrength and your palaces wil be looted.
12 Haec dicit Dominus: “ Quomodo si eruat pastor de ore leonis duo crura aut extremum auriculae, sic eruentur filii Israel, qui habitant in Samaria, in margine lectuli et in Damasci grabato.	12 Yahweh says this: As the shepherd rescues two legs or the tip of an ear from the lion's mouth, so wilthe children of Israel be salvaged who now lol in Samaria in the corners of their beds, on their divans ofDamascus.
13 Audite et contestamini in domo Iacob, dicit Dominus, Deus exercituum:	13 Listen and testify against the House of Jacob -declares the Lord Yahweh, God Sabaoth-
14 In die cum visitavero praevaricationes Israel, super eum visitabo et super altaria Bethel, et amputabuntur cornua altaris et cadent in terram;	14 the day when I punish Israel for his crimes I shal also punish the altars of Bethel; the horns of thealtar wil be hacked off and wil fal to the ground.
15 et percutiam domum hiemalem cum domo aestiva, et peribunt domus eburneae, et dissipabuntur aedes magnae ”, dicit Dominus.	15 I shall blast winter house with summer house, ivory houses wil be destroyed and many mansionscease to be -declares Yahweh.
