Levitico 4

NOVA VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Locutusque est Dominus ad Moysen dicens:	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
2 “ Loquere filiis Israel: Anima cum peccaverit per ignorantiam et de universis mandatis Domini, quae praecepit ut non fierent, quippiam fecerit,	2 'Speak to the Israelites and say: "If anyone sins inadvertently against any of Yahweh's commandmentsand does anything prohibited by them,
3 si sacerdos, qui est unctus, peccaverit, delinquere faciens populum, offeret pro peccato suo vitulum immaculatum Domino sacrificium pro peccato;	3 if the one who sins is the anointed priest, thus making the people guilty, then for the sin which he hascommitted he must offer Yahweh a young bul , an unblemished animal from the herd, as a sacrifice for sin.
4 et adducet illum ad ostium tabernaculi conventus coram Domino ponetque manum super caput eius et immolabit eum coram Domino.	4 He wil bring the bul before Yahweh at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, wil lay his hand on its headand slaughter it before Yahweh.
5 Hauriet quoque sacerdos unctus de sanguine vituli inferens illum in tabernaculum conventus;	5 The anointed priest wil then take some of the bul 's blood and carry it into the Tent of Meeting.
6 cumque intinxerit digitum in sanguinem, asperget eo septies coram Domino contra velum sanctuarii;	6 He wil then dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle it seven times in front of the sanctuary curtain, beforeYahweh.
7 ponetque de eodem sanguine super cornua altaris thymiamatis gratissimi coram Domino, quod est in tabernaculo conventus; omnem autem reliquum sanguinem fundet in basim altaris holocausti in introitu tabernaculi.	7 The priest will then put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of incense smoking before Yahweh inthe Tent of Meeting, and wil pour al the rest of the bul 's blood at the foot of the altar of burnt offerings at theentrance to the Tent of Meeting.
8 Et omnem adipem vituli pro peccato auferet tam eum, qui operit vitalia, quam omnem, qui vitalibus adhaeret,	8 "Of the bul offered as a sacrifice for sin, he wil set aside all the fat: the fat covering the entrails, al the fat on the entrails,
9 duos renunculos et adipem, qui est super eos iuxta ilia, et reticulum iecoris, quem iuxta renunculos, auferet,	9 both kidneys, the fat on them and on the loins, the mass of fat which he wil remove from the liver andkidneys-
10 sicut aufertur de vitulo hostiae pacificorum; et adolebit ea sacerdos super altare holocausti.	10 exactly as was done with the portion set aside in the communion sacrifice -- and the priest will burnthese pieces on the altar of burnt offerings.
11 Pellem vero et omnes carnes cum capite et pedibus et intestinis et fimo,	11 "The bul 's skin and al its meat, its head, its shins, its entrails and its offal,
12 totum vitulum efferet extra castra in locum mundum, ubi cineres effundi solent; incendetque eum super lignorum struem igne: in loco effusorum cinerum cremabitur.	12 the whole bul he wil then have carried out of the camp to a clean place, the place where the fattyashes are thrown, and wil burn it on a wood fire; it must be burnt where the ashes are thrown.
13 Quod si omnis coetus Israel ignoraverit, et res abscondita fuerit ab oculis congregationis, feceritque quod contra mandatum Domini est et deliquerit,	13 "If the whole community of Israel has sinned inadvertently and, without being aware of it has incurredguilt by doing something forbidden by Yahweh's commandments,
14 et postea intellexerit peccatum suum, offeret congregatio vitulum pro peccato adducetque eum ad ostium tabernaculi conventus.	14 once the sin of which it is guilty has been discovered, the community must offer a young bul , anunblemished animal from the herd, as a sacrifice for sin, and bring it in front of the Tent of Meeting.
15 Et ponent seniores coetus populi manus super caput eius coram Domino, immolatoque vitulo in conspectu Domini,	15 The elders of the community wil then lay their hands on the bul 's head before Yahweh, and the bulwil be slaughtered before Yahweh.
16 inferet sacerdos, qui unctus est, de sanguine eius in tabernaculum conventus,	16 "The anointed priest wil then take some of the bul 's blood into the Tent of Meeting.
17 tincto digito aspergens septies contra velum;	17 He will then dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle it seven times in front of the curtain, beforeYahweh.
18 ponetque de eodem sanguine in cornibus altaris, quod est coram Domino in tabernaculo conventus. Reliquum autem sanguinem fundet iuxta basim altaris holocaustorum, quod est in ostio tabernaculi conventus;	18 He will then put some of the blood on the horns of the altar standing before Yahweh inside the Tent ofMeeting, and then pour al the rest of the blood at the foot of the altar of burnt offerings at the entrance to theTent of Meeting.
19 omnemque eius adipem tollet et adolebit super altare.	19 "He wil then set aside al the fat from the animal and burn it on the altar.
20 Sic faciens et de hoc vitulo quomodo fecit de vitulo pro peccato; sic faciet ei. Expiante eos sacerdote, propitius erit Dominus.	20 He will then deal with the bul as he did with the bul in the sacrifice for sin. It wil be dealt with in thesame way; and once the priest has performed the rite of expiation for the people, they will be forgiven.
21 Ipsum autem vitulum efferet extra castra atque comburet sicut et priorem vitulum: sacrificium pro peccato est congregationis.	21 "He wil then have the bul carried out of the camp and wil burn it as he burned the first one. This is thesacrifice for the sin of the community.
22 Si peccaverit princeps et fecerit unum ex omnibus per ignorantiam, quod Domini Dei sui lege prohibetur, deliqueritque,	22 "When a leader has sinned and inadvertently incurred guilt by doing something forbidden by thecommandments of Yahweh his God
23 aut indicatum ei fuerit peccatum suum, offeret hostiam Domino hircum de capris immaculatum	23 (or if the sin which he has committed is drawn to his attention), he must bring a he-goat as his offering,an unblemished male.
24 ponetque manum suam super caput eius et immolabit eum in loco, ubi solet mactari holocaustum coram Domino: sacrificium pro peccato est.	24 He will then lay his hand on the goat's head and slaughter it on the spot where the burnt offerings areslaughtered before Yahweh. This is a sacrifice for sin;
25 Et tinguat sacerdos digitum in sanguine hostiae pro peccato ponetque super cornua altaris holocausti et reliquum fundet ad basim eius.	25 the priest wil take some of the victim's blood on his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burntofferings. He will then pour the rest of its blood at the foot of the altar of burnt offerings
26 Adipem vero adolebit supra, sicut in victimis pacificorum fieri solet; expiabitque eum a peccato eius, ac dimittetur ei.	26 and burn al the fat on the altar, as with the fat in the communion sacrifice. This is how the priest mustperform the rite of expiation for him to free him from his sin, and he wil be forgiven.
27 Quod si peccaverit anima per ignorantiam de populo terrae, ut faciat quidquam ex his, quae Domini lege prohibentur, atque delinquat,	27 "If one of the country people sins inadvertently and incurs guilt by doing something forbidden byYahweh's commandments
28 aut indicatum ei fuerit peccatum suum, offeret capram immaculatam;	28 (or if the sin which he has committed is drawn to his attention), he must bring a she-goat as his offeringfor the sin which he has committed, an unblemished female.
29 ponetque manum super caput hostiae pro peccato et immolabit eam in loco holocausti.	29 He will then lay his hand on the victim's head and slaughter it on the spot where the burnt offerings areslaughtered.
30 Tolletque sacerdos de sanguine in digito suo et ponet super cornua altaris holocausti et reliquum fundet ad basim eius.	30 The priest wil take some of its blood on his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offerings.He will then pour all the rest of the blood at the foot of the altar.
31 Omnem autem auferens adipem, sicut auferri solet de victimis pacificorum, adolebit super altare in odorem suavitatis Domino, expiabitque eum, et propitius erit Dominus.	31 He will then remove al the fat, as the fat was removed for the communion sacrifice, and the priest wilburn it on the altar as a smell pleasing to Yahweh. This is how the priest must perform the rite of expiation forhim, and he wil be forgiven.
32 Sin autem de ovibus obtulerit victimam pro peccato, adducet agnam immaculatam;	32 "If he wishes to bring a lamb as an offering for this kind of sacrifice, he must bring an unblemishedfemale.
33 ponet manum super caput eius et immolabit eam in loco, ubi solent holocaustorum caedi hostiae.	33 He will then lay his hand on the victim's head and slaughter it as a sacrifice for sin on the spot wherethe burnt offerings are slaughtered.
34 Sumetque sacerdos de sanguine eius digito suo et ponens super cornua altaris holocausti reliquum fundet ad basim eius.	34 The priest wil take some of the victim's blood on his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burntofferings. He will then pour al the rest of the blood at the foot of the altar.
35 Omnem quoque auferens adipem, sicut auferri solet adeps agni, qui immolatur pro pacificis, cremabit in altari super incensis Domini; expiabitque eum et peccatum eius, et dimittetur illi.	35 He will then remove al the fat, as was done for the sheep in the communion sacrifice, and the priestwil burn it as food burnt for Yahweh. This is how the priest must perform for him the rite of expiation for the sinwhich he has committed, and he wil be forgiven." '
