Prima lettera di Giovanni 3

1 Osservate, qual carità ha dato il Padre a noi, che siamo chamati, e siamo figliuoli di Dio. Per questo il mondo non conosce noi: perché non conosce lui.	1 You must see what great love the Father has lavished on us by letting us be cal ed God's children --which is what we are! The reason why the world does not acknowledge us is that it did not acknowledge him.
2 Carissimi, noi siamo adesso figliuoli di Dio: ma non ancora si è manifestato quel, che saremo. Sappiamo, che quand' egli apparirà, sarem simili a lui: perché lo vedremo, qual, egli è.	2 My dear friends, we are already God's children, but what we shall be in the future has not yet beenrevealed. We are wel aware that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he real yis.
3 E Chiunque ha questa speranza, in lui, si santifica, come egli pure è santo.	3 Whoever treasures this hope of him purifies himself, to be as pure as he is.
4 Chiunque fa peccato, commetter iniquità: e il peccato è iniquità.	4 Whoever sins, acts wickedly, because al sin is wickedness.
5 E sapete com' egli è apparito per togliere i nostri peccati: e in lui peccato non è.	5 Now you are well aware that he has appeared in order to take sins away, and that in him there is no sin.
6 Chiunque sta in lui, non pecca, e chiunque pecca, non lo ha veduto, e non lo ha conosciuto.	6 No one who remains in him sins, and whoever sins has neither seen him nor recognised him.
7 Figliuolini, nissuno vi seduca. Chi pratica la giustizia, è giusto: come, anche quegli è giusto.	7 Children, do not let anyone lead you astray. Whoever acts uprightly is upright, just as he is upright.
8 Chi fa peccato, egli è dal diavolo: dappoiché il diavolo dal bel principio pecca. A questo fine è apparito il Figliuolo di Dio, per distruggere le opere del diavolo.	8 Whoever lives sinfully belongs to the devil, since the devil has been a sinner from the beginning. Thiswas the purpose of the appearing of the Son of God, to undo the work of the devil.
9 Chiunque è nato di Dio, non fa peccato: conciossiaché tiene in se la semenza di lui, e non può peccare, perché è nato di Dio.	9 No one who is a child of God sins because God's seed remains in him. Nor can he sin, because he is achild of God.
10 In questo si distinguono i figliuoli di Dio, e i figliuoli del diavolo. Chiunque non pratica la giustizia, non è da Dio, e chi non ama il suo fratello.	10 This is what distinguishes the children of God from the children of the devil: whoever does not liveuprightly and does not love his brother is not from God.
11 Imperocché questo è l'annunzio, che udiste da principio, che vi amiate l'un l'altro.	11 This is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we must love one another,
12 Non come Caino, che era dal maligno, e ammazzò il suo fratello. E perché lo ammazzò? Perché le opere di lui eran cattive: e quelle del suo fratello giuste.	12 not to be like Cain, who was from the Evil One and murdered his brother. And why did he murder hisbrother? Because his own actions were evil and his brother's upright.
13 Non vi stupite, fratelli, se il mondo vi odia.	13 Do not be surprised, brothers, if the world hates you.
14 Noi sappiamo, che siamo stati traportati dalla morte alla vita, perché amiamo i fratelli. Chi non ama, è nella morte:	14 We are wel aware that we have passed over from death to life because we love our brothers.Whoever does not love, remains in death.
15 Chiunque odia il proprio fratello, è omicida. E voi sapete, che qualunque omicida non ha abitante in se stesso la vita eterna.	15 Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you are well aware that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.
16 Da questo abbiam conosciuto la carità di Dio, perché egli ha posto la sua vita per noi: e noi pur dobbiamo porre la vita pe' fratelli.	16 This is the proof of love, that he laid down his life for us, and we too ought to lay down our lives for ourbrothers.
17 Chi avrà de' beni di questo mondo, e vedrà il suo fratello in necessità, e chiuderà le sue viscere alla compassione di lui: come mai è costui la carità di Dio?	17 If anyone is wel -off in worldly possessions and sees his brother in need but closes his heart to him,how can the love of God be remaining in him?
18 Figliuolini miei, non amiamo in parole, e colla lingua, ma coll'opera, e la verità:	18 Children, our love must be not just words or mere talk, but something active and genuine.
19 E da questo conosciamo di essere dalla verità: e rassicureremo i nostri cuori dinanzi a lui.	19 This will be the proof that we belong to the truth, and it wil convince us in his presence,
20 Imperocché se il cuor nostro ci condanna: Iddio è maggiore del nostro cuore, e conosce tutte le cose.	20 even if our own feelings condemn us, that God is greater than our feelings and knows al things.
21 Carissimi, se il nostro cuore non ci condanna, abbiam fiducia dinanzi a Dio.	21 My dear friends, if our own feelings do not condemn us, we can be fearless before God,
22 E qualunque cosa domanderemo, la riceveremo da lui: perché osserviamo i suoi comandamenti, e facciam quelle cose, che a lui piacciono.	22 and whatever we ask we shal receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what isacceptable to him.
23 E questo è il suo comandamento: che crediamo nel nome del Figliuolo suo Gesù Cristo: e ci amiamo l'un l'altro, come egli ci comandò.	23 His commandment is this, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and that weshould love one another as he commanded us.
24 E chi osserva i suoi comandamenti sta in lui, ed egli in esso: e dallo Spirito, che egli a noi diede, sappiamo, che egli sta in noi.	24 Whoever keeps his commandments remains in God, and God in him. And this is the proof that heremains in us: the Spirit that he has given us.
