1 Similmente anche le donne sian soggette a' loro mariti: anche perché se alcuni non credono alla parola, siano guadagnati senza la parola dai portamenti delle mogli,	1 Similarly also, wives should be subject to their husbands, so that, even if some do not believe the Word, they may benefit without the Word, through the behavior of these wives,
2 Considerando quegli (insieme) colla riverenza la casta vostra condotta.	2 as they consider with fear your chaste behavior.
3 Delle quali l'ornato non sia al di fuori l'acconciatura de' capelli, o l'oro, che si mettano dattorno, o le vestimenta, onde si ammantino:	3 For you, there should be no unnecessary adornment of the hair, or surrounding with gold, or the wearing of ornate clothing.
4 Ma quell'uomo ascoso del cuore con quello, che non si corrompe, Spirito tranquillo, e modesto, che è cosa preziosa nel cospetto di Dio.	4 Instead, you should be a hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptibility of a quiet and a meek spirit, rich in the sight of God.
5 Imperocché così una volta anche le donne sante, che in Dio speravano, sì adornavano, stando soggette a' loro mariti.	5 For in this way, in past times also, holy women adorned themselves, hoping in God, being subject to their own husbands.
6 Come Sara era ubbidiente ad Abramo, chiamandolo signore: della quale voi siete figliuole, operando il bene, e non essendo sbigottite da qualsisia spavento.	6 For so Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You are her daughters, well-behaved and unafraid of any disturbance.
7 Voi, mariti, parimente convivete con saggezza con le mogli, e come ad arnese più fragile rendete onore, ed anche come a coeredi della grazia di vita affinchè impedite non siano le vostre orazioni.	7 Similarly, you husbands should live with them in accord with knowledge, bestowing honor on the female as the weaker vessel and as co-heirs of the life of grace, so that your prayers may not be hindered.
8 Finalmente tutti unanimi, compassionevoli, amanti de' fratelli, misericordiosi, modesti, umili:	8 And finally, may you all be of one mind: compassionate, loving brotherhood, merciful, meek, humble,
9 Non rendendo male per male, né maledizione per maledizione, ma pel contrario benedicendo: imperocché a questo siete stati chiamati, affinchè abbiate in retaggio la benedizione.	9 not repaying evil with evil, nor slander with slander, but, to the contrary, repaying with blessings. For to this you have been called, so that you may possess the inheritance of a blessing.
10 Chi adunque vuole, ed ama la vita, e di vedere de' giorni beati, raffreni la sua lingua dal male, e le labbra di lui non parlino inganno.	10 For whoever wants to love life and to see good days should restrain his tongue from evil, and his lips, so that they utter no deceit.
11 Schivi il male, e faccia il bene: cerchi la pace, e le vada dietro:	11 Let him turn away from evil, and do good. Let him seek peace, and pursue it.
12 Dappoiché gli occhi del Signore sopra de' giusti, e le orecchie di lui alle loro orazioni: ma la faccia di Dio contro di coloro che mal fanno.	12 For the eyes of the Lord are upon the just, and his ears are with their prayers, but the countenance of the Lord is upon those who do evil.
13 E chi è, che a voi noccia se sarete zelanti del bene?	13 And who is it who can harm you, if you are zealous in what is good?
14 Ma di più se alcuna cosa patite per la giustizia, beati voi. Non paventate però gli spauracchi di coloro, e non vi turbate.	14 And yet, even when you suffer something for the sake of justice, you are blessed. So then, do not be afraid with their fear, and do not be disturbed.
15 Ma benedite ne' vostri cuori Cristo Signore, pronti sempre a dar satisfazione a chiunque vi domandi ragione della speranza, che avete dentro di voi:	15 But sanctify Christ the Lord in your hearts, being always ready to give an explanation to all who ask you the reason for that hope which is in you.
16 Ma con modestia, e rispetto, conservando buona coscienza: onde invece che sparlan di voi, rimangano confusi quegli, che intaccano la buona vostra maniera di vivere secondo Cristo.	16 But do so with meekness and fear, having a good conscience, so that, in whatever matter they may slander you, they shall be confounded, since they falsely accuse your good behavior in Christ.
17 Imperocché è meglio il patire (se cosi piaccia al voler di Dio) ben facendo, che operando male:	17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if it is the will of God, than for doing evil.
18 Conciossiachè anche Cristo una volta pei peccati nostri morì, il giusto pegli ingiusti, affine di offerir noi a Dio, essendo stato messo a morte secondo la carne, vivificato poi per lo Spirito.	18 For Christ also died once for our sins, the Just One on behalf of the unjust, so that he might offer us to God, having died, certainly, in the flesh, but having been enlivened by the Spirit.
19 Pel quale eziandio andò a predicare a quegli spiriti, che erano in carcere:	19 And in the Spirit, he preached to those who were in prison, going to those souls
20 I quali erano stati una volta increduli, allorché la pazienza di Dio stava aspettando ne' giorni di Noè, mentre fabbricavasi l'arca: nella quale pochi, cioè otto anime si salvaron sopra l'acqua.	20 who had been unbelieving in past times, while they waited for the patience of God, as in the days of Noah, when the ark was being built. In that ark, a few, that is, eight souls, were saved by water.
21 Alla qual cosa corrisponde adesso quel battesimo, che vi salva (non ripulimento delle sozzure della carne, ma contratto di buona coscienza fatto con Dio) per mezzo della risurrezione di Gesù Cristo,	21 And now you also are saved, in a similar manner, by baptism, not by the testimony of sordid flesh, but by the examination of a good conscience in God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
22 Il quale sta alla destra di Dio, ingoiata avendo la morte, perché noi diventassimo eredi dalla vita eterna: essendo andato al cielo, soggettati a se gli Angeli, e le potestà, e le vertudi.	22 He is at the right hand of God, devouring death, so that we may be made heirs to eternal life. And since he has journeyed to heaven, the Angels and powers and virtues are subject to him.
