1 La sapienza è il libro de' comandamenti di Dio, e la legge, che dura in eterno: tutti color, che la osservano, giungono alla vita, e tutti quegli, che l'abbandonano, giungono alla morte.	1 She is the book of the precepts of God, the law that endures forever; All who cling to her will live, but those will die who forsake her.
2 Convertiti, Giacobbe, ed abbracciala, cammina al lume di essa per la strada, che ella addita.	2 Turn, O Jacob, and receive her: walk by her light toward splendor.
3 Non dare ad altri la tua gloria, e la tua dignità ad una nazione straniera.	3 Give not your glory to another, your privileges to an alien race.
4 Beati siarn noi, o Israele, perché manifesto è a noi quello, che piace a Pio.	4 Blessed are we, O Israel; for what pleases God is known to us!
5 Fatti animo, popol di Dio, che la memoria conservi di Israele.	5 Fear not, my people! Remember, Israel,
6 Voi siete stati venduti alle genti non per essere annichilati, ma perché irritaste l'ira di Dio foste dati in poter de' nemici;	6 You were sold to the nations not for your destruction; It was because you angered God that you were handed over to your foes.
7 Imperocché voi esacerbaste corni, che vi creò, il Dio eterno, sacrificando a' demoni, e non a Dio;	7 For you provoked your Maker with sacrifices to demons, to no-gods;
8 Imperocché vi dimenticaste di Dio, che vi nutricò, e affliggeste la nutrice vostra Gerusalemme;	8 You forsook the Eternal God who nourished you, and you grieved Jerusalem who fostered you.
9 Imperocché ella vide l'ira di Dio, venir sopra di voi, e disse: adite, o città vicine di Sion, Dio mi ha mandato un gran dolore:	9 She indeed saw coming upon you the anger of God; and she said: "Hear, you neighbors of Zion! God has brought great mourning upon me,
10 Imperocché ho io veduta là schiavitudine del popol mio, de' miei figli, e delle figlie, alla quale l'Eterno gli condannò:	10 For I have seen the captivity that the Eternal God has brought upon my sons and daughters.
11 Imperocché io gli allevai con piacere; e gli ho lasciati con pianto: con dolore.	11 With joy I fostered them; but with mourning and lament I let them go.
12 Nissun si allegri in vedermi vedova, e desolata: son rimasa abbandonata da molta gente pei peccati de' miei figliuoli, i quali deviarono dalla legge di Dio.	12 Let no one gloat over me, a widow, bereft of many: For the sins of my children I am left desolate, because they turned from the law of God,
13 E ignoravano i suoi precetti, non battevan la strada de' comandamenti di Dio, né colla giustizia camminarono pe sentieri della sua verità.	13 and did not acknowledge his statutes; In the ways of God's commandments they did not walk, nor did they tread the disciplined paths of his justice.
14 Vengan le vicine di Sion, e meco facciano ricordanza della schiavitudine de' miei figli, e delle figlie, nella quale gli ha condotti l'Eterno;	14 "Let Zion's neighbors come, to take note of the captivity of my sons and daughters, brought upon them by the Eternal God.
15 Imperocché mandò egli contro di loro una nazione rimota, nazione perversa, e di lingua ignota;	15 He has brought against them a nation from afar, a nation ruthless and of alien speech, That has neither reverence for age nor tenderness for childhood;
16 I quali non hanno avuto rispetto pei vecchi, né misericordia pe' fanciulli, e hanno menati via i cari della vedova, e priva di figli la hanno lasciati in desolazione.	16 They have led away this widow's cherished sons, have left me solitary, without daughters.
17 E qual ajuto recarvi poss'io?	17 What can I do to help you?
18 Ma colui, che mandò sopra di voi questi mali, egli vi libererà dalle mani de' vostri nemici.	18 He who has brought this evil upon you must himself deliver you from your enemies' hands.
19 Andate figli, andate, ed io mi resti pur sola.	19 Farewell, my children, farewell: I am left desolate.
20 Mi sono spogliata del manto di pace, e mi son vestita del sacco di supplichevole, e alzerò mie grida all'Altissimo per i tutti i miei giorni,	20 I have taken off the garment of peace, have put on sackcloth for my prayer of supplication, and while I live I will cry out to the Eternal God.
21 Fatevi animo, o figliuoli, alzate le vostra grida al Signore, e vi libererà dal potere de' principi nemici;	21 "Fear not, my children; call upon God, who will deliver you from oppression at enemy hands.
22 Imperocché io ho posta la speranza mia nell'Eterno, salute vostra, il Santo mi ha consolala colla misericordia, che verrà a voi dall'eterno salvatore vostro; '	22 I have trusted in the Eternal God for your welfare, and joy has come to me from the Holy One Because of the mercy that will swiftly reach you from your eternal savior.
23 Imperocché con lagrime, e con sospiri vi licenziai, ma riconduravvi a me il Signore con gaudio, e letizia sempiterna.	23 With mourning and lament I sent you forth, but God will give you back to me with enduring gladness and joy.
24 E siccome le vicine di Sion videro venir da Dio la schiavitù vostra, cosi vedranno assai presto la salute vostra venire da Dio a voi con onore grande, e splendore eterno.	24 As Zion's neighbors lately saw you taken captive, so shall they soon see God's salvation come to you, with great glory and the splendor of the Eternal God.
25 Figliuoli, sopportate pazientemente l'ira, che è venuta sopra di voi: imperocché ti ha perseguitato il tuo nemico, ma tosto vedrai tu la perdizione di lui, e tu calcherai la sua cervice.	25 "My children, bear patiently the anger that has come from God upon you; Your enemies have persecuted you, and you will soon see their destruction and trample upon their necks.
26 I teneri miei figliuoli hanno battute aspre strade; perocché sono stati condotti come una greggia rapita dagli inimici.	26 My pampered children have trodden rough roads, carried off by their enemies like sheep in a raid.
27 Fatevi animo, o figliuoli, e alzate le vostre grida al Signore: perocché si ricorderà di voi colui, che vi ha trasportati;	27 Fear not, my children; call out to God! He who brought this upon you will remember you.
28 Imperocché se vostra volontà si fu di andare lungi da Dio, con volontà dieci volte tanta lui cercherete ravveduti;	28 As your hearts have been disposed to stray from God, turn now ten times the more to seek him;
29 Imperocché colui, che mandò a voi questi mali, egli pure a voi manderà una sempiterna allegrezza col darvi salute.	29 For he who has brought disaster upon you will, in saving you, bring you back enduring joy."
30 Stadi buon animo, Gerusalemme; perocché ti consola colui, che a te da il nome.	30 Fear not, Jerusalem! He who gave you your name is your encouragement.
31 I cattivi, che ti straziarono, periranno: e saranno puniti quelli, che hanno goduto di tua rovina:	31 Fearful are those who harmed you, who rejoiced at your downfall;
32 Le città, alle quali hanno servito i tuoi figli, saran gastigate, e quella che tenne seco i tuoi figli,	32 Fearful are the cities where your children were enslaved, fearful the city that took your sons.
33 Siccome si allegrò della tua rovina, e fece festa di tua caduta, così della sua desolazione sarà rattristata.	33 As that city rejoiced at your collapse, and made merry at your downfall, so shall she grieve over her own desolation.
34 E le sarà tolto il brio della sua moltitudine, e la sua allegrìa in lutto si cangerà;	34 I will take from her the joyous throngs, and her exultation shall be turned to mourning:
35 Imperocché fuoco manderà sopra di lei l'Eterno per lunghi giorni, e da' demonj sarà abitata per molto tempo.	35 For fire shall come upon her from the Eternal God, for a long time, and demons shall dwell in her from that time on.
36 Mira, o Gerusalemme, all'Oriente, e vedi la allegrezza, che da Dio Tiene a te;	36 Look to the east, Jerusalem! behold the joy that comes to you from God.
37 Imperocché ecco, che vengono a te i figli tuoi divisi da te per andare dispersi: ei vengono raunati da Oriente fino a Occidente, secondo la parola del Santo, lieti, lodando Dio.	37 Here come your sons whom you once let go, gathered in from the east and from the west By the word of the Holy One, rejoicing in the glory of God.
