Esdra 3

1 E già veniva il settimo mese, e i figliuoli d'Israele se ne stavano nelle loro città, quando si adunò tutto il popolo come un sol uomo a Gerusalemme.	1 And now the seventh month had arrived, and the sons of Israel were in their cities. Then, the people were gathered together, like one man, in Jerusalem.
2 E Josuè figliuolo di Josedec, e i sacerdoti suoi fratelli, e Zorobabel figliuolo di Salathiel, co' suoi fratelli, in trapresero di erigere l'altare di Dio d'Israele per offerirvi gli olocausti, conforme sta scritto nella legge di Mosè uomo di Dio.	2 And Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, rose up with his brothers, the priests. And Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, rose up with his brothers. And they built the altar of the God of Israel, so that they might offer holocausts upon it, just as it was written in the law of Moses, the man of God.
3 E posarono l'altare di Dio sulla sua base, benché ne li distogliessero i popoli de' paesi circonvicini: e sopra di questo altare offersero olocausto al Signore mattina, e sera.	3 Now they set the altar of God upon its bases, while keeping the people of all the surrounding lands away from it. And they offered upon it a holocaust to the Lord, morning and evening.
4 E celebraron la solennità de' tabernacoli nella maniera prescritta, e offersero l'olocausto ogni dì, conforme era ordinato di fare giorno per giorno.	4 And they kept the solemnity of tabernacles, just as it was written, and the holocaust of each day in order, according to the precept, the work of each day in its time.
5 E dipoi l'olocausto perpetuo tanto nelle calende, come in tutte le solennità consagrate al Signore, e per chiunque spontaneamente offerisse dono al Signore.	5 And after these, they offered the continual holocaust, as much on the new moons as on all the solemnities of the Lord that were consecrated, and on all those when a voluntary gift was offered to the Lord.
6 Dal primo dì del settimo mese principiarono ad offerire olocausti al Signore: ma non erano ancor gettate le fondamenta del tempio di Dio.	6 From the first day of the seventh month, they began to offer holocausts to the Lord. But the temple of God had not yet been founded.
7 E diedero del denaro ai lavoratori di pietra, e ai muratori: e da mangiare, e da bere, e dell'olio a quelli di Tiro, e di Sidone, affinchè portassero il legname di cedro dal Libano al mare di Joppe, secondo l'ordine dato loro da e Ciro re della Persia.	7 And so they gave money to those who cut and laid stones. Similarly, they gave food, and drink, and oil to the Sidonians and the Tyrians, so that they would bring cedar wood, from Lebanon to the sea at Joppa, in accord with what had been commanded of them by Cyrus, the king of the Persians.
8 L'anno secondo del loro arrivo al tempio di Dio in Gerusalemme, il secondo mese, Zorobabel figliuolo di Salathiel, e Josuè figliuolo di Josedech, e in gli altri loro fratelli sacerdoti, e Leviti, e tutti quelli, i quali dalla schiavitù eran tornati a Gerusalemme, risolverono di destinare i Leviti dai venti anni in su a sollecitare l'opera del Signore.	8 Then, in the second year of their advent to the temple of God in Jerusalem, in the second month, Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and the remainder of their brothers, the priests, and the Levites, and all who had arrived from the captivity to Jerusalem, began, and they appointed Levites, from twenty years and over, to hasten the work of the Lord.
9 E Josuè, e i suoi figliuoli, e fratelli, Cedmihel, e i suoi figliuoli, e (tutti) i figliuoli di Giuda, come un sol uomo si stavano a stimolar quelli, che lavoravano al tempio di Dio: e (parimente) i figliuoli di Henadad, e i loro figliuoli, e fratelli Leviti.	9 And Jeshua and his sons and his brothers, Kadmiel and his sons, and the sons of Judah, like one man, stood so that they might have charge over those who did the work in the temple of God: the sons of Henadad, and their sons, and their brothers, the Levites.
10 Quando adunque i muratori ebber gettate le fondamenta del tempio del Signore, vennero i sacerdoti colle loro divise, e colle loro trombe: e i Leviti figliuoli di Asaph co' loro cimbali per cantar le lodi di Dio co' Salmi di David re d'Israele.	10 And when the builders had founded the temple of the Lord, the priests stood in their adornment with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, stood with cymbals, so that they might praise God by the hand of David, the king of Israel.
11 E lodavano il Signore co' loro cantici, e confessavano com'egli è buono, e come eterna ell'è la sua misericordia verso Israele. E parimente tutto il popolo alzava voci sonore nel dar laude al Signore: perchè si erano gettate le fondamenta del tempio del Signore.	11 And they sung together with hymns and confession to the Lord: “For he is good. For his mercy is over Israel unto eternity.” And likewise, all the people shouted with a great clamor in praise to the Lord, because the temple of the Lord had been founded.
12 E moltissimi de' sacerdoti, e de' Leviti, e de' capi del popolo, e de' seniori, i quali avean veduto il primo tempio, allorché furono sotto gli occhi loro gettati i fondamenti di quest'altro tempio, gettavano grandi gemiti; e molti alzavano le loro voci gridando per allegrezza.	12 And many of the priests and the Levites, and the leaders of the fathers and of the elders, who had seen the former temple, when now this temple was founded and was before their eyes, wept with a great voice. And many of them, shouting for joy, lifted up their voice.
13 E non si potevan discernere i gridi di allegrezza dai clamori di quelli, che si affliggevano: perocché tutto il popolo confusamente gridava ad alta voce, e si udiva il rumore di lontano.	13 Neither could anyone distinguish between the voice of clamor of joy, and a voice of weeping of the people. For the shouting of the people mixed into a great clamor, and the voice was heard from far away.
