BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 In quei giorni i Filistei radunarono l'esercito per combattere contro Israele e Achis disse a Davide: "Tieni bene a mente che devi uscire in campo con me insieme con i tuoi uomini".	1 It then happened that the Philistines mustered their forces for war, to fight Israel, and Achish said toDavid, 'It is understood that you and your men go into battle with me.'
2 Davide rispose ad Achis: "Tu sai già quello che farà il tuo servo". Achis disse: "Bene! Ti faccio per sempre mia guardia del corpo".	2 David said to Achish, 'In that case, you wil soon see what your servant can do.' Achish replied toDavid, 'Right, I shal appoint you as my permanent bodyguard.'
3 Samuele era morto e tutto Israele aveva fatto il lamento su di lui; poi l'avevano seppellito in Rama sua città. Saul aveva bandito dal paese i negromanti e gl'indovini.	3 Now Samuel was dead, and al Israel had mourned him and buried him at Ramah, his own town. Saulhad expel ed the necromancers and wizards from the country.
4 I Filistei si radunarono, si mossero e posero il campo in Sunàm. Saul radunò tutto Israele e si accampò sul Gelboe.	4 Meanwhile the Philistines had mustered and had come and pitched camp at Shunem. Saul musteredal Israel and they encamped at Gilboa.
5 Quando Saul vide il campo dei Filistei, rimase atterrito e il suo cuore tremò di paura.	5 When Saul saw the Philistine camp, he was afraid and his heart trembled violently.
6 Saul consultò il Signore e il Signore non gli rispose né attraverso sogni, né mediante gli 'Urim', né per mezzo dei profeti.	6 Saul consulted Yahweh, but Yahweh gave him no answer, either by dream, divination or prophet.
7 Allora Saul disse ai suoi ministri: "Cercatemi una negromante, perché voglio andare a consultarla". I suoi ministri gli risposero: "Vi è una negromante nella città di Endor".	7 Saul then said to his servants, 'Find a necromancer for me, so that I can go and consult her.' Hisservants replied, 'There is a necromancer at En-Dor.'
8 Saul si camuffò, si travestì e partì con due uomini. Arrivò da quella donna di notte. Disse: "Pratica la divinazione per me con uno spirito. Evocami colui che io ti dirò".	8 And so Saul, disguising himself and changing his clothes, set out accompanied by two men; their visitto the woman took place at night. 'Disclose the future to me', he said, 'by means of a ghost. Conjure up the one Ishall name to you.'
9 La donna gli rispose: "Tu sai bene quello che ha fatto Saul: ha eliminato dal paese i negromanti e gli indovini e tu perché tendi un tranello alla mia vita per uccidermi?".	9 The woman replied, 'Look, you know what Saul has done, how he has outlawed necromancers andwizards from the country; why are you setting a trap for my life, then, to have me killed?'
10 Saul le giurò per il Signore: "Per la vita del Signore, non avrai alcuna colpa per questa faccenda".	10 But Saul swore to her by Yahweh, 'As Yahweh lives,' he said, 'no blame shal attach to you for thisbusiness.'
11 Essa disse: "Chi devo evocarti?". Rispose: "Evocami Samuele".	11 The woman asked, 'Whom shal I conjure up for you?' He replied, 'Conjure up Samuel.'
12 La donna vide Samuele e proruppe in un forte grido e disse quella donna a Saul: "Perché mi hai ingannata? Tu sei Saul!".	12 The woman then saw Samuel and, giving a great cry, she said to Saul, 'Why have you deceived me?You are Saul!'
13 Le rispose il re: "Non aver paura, che cosa vedi?". La donna disse a Saul: "Vedo un essere divino che sale dalla terra".	13 The king said, 'Do not be afraid! What do you see?' The woman replied to Saul, 'I see a ghost risingfrom the earth.'
14 Le domandò: "Che aspetto ha?". Rispose: "È un uomo anziano che sale ed è avvolto in un mantello". Saul comprese che era veramente Samuele e si inginocchiò con la faccia a terra e si prostrò.	14 'What is he like?' he asked. She replied, 'It is an old man coming up; he is wrapped in a cloak.' Saulthen knew that it was Samuel and, bowing to the ground, prostrated himself.
15 Allora Samuele disse a Saul: "Perché mi hai disturbato e costretto a salire?". Saul rispose: "Sono in grande difficoltà. I Filistei mi muovono guerra e Dio si è allontanato da me; non mi ha più risposto né per mezzo dei profeti, né per mezzo dei sogni; perciò ti ho evocato, perché tu mi manifesti quello che devo fare".	15 Samuel said to Saul, 'Why have you disturbed my rest by conjuring me up?' Saul replied, 'I am ingreat distress; the Philistines are waging war on me, and God has abandoned me and no longer answers meeither by prophet or by dream; and so I have summoned you to tel me what I ought to do.'
16 Samuele rispose: "Perché mi vuoi consultare, quando il Signore si è allontanato da te ed è divenuto tuo nemico?	16 Samuel said, 'Why consult me, when Yahweh has abandoned you and has become your enemy?
17 Il Signore ha fatto nei tuoi riguardi quello che ha detto per mia bocca. Il Signore ha strappato da te il regno e l'ha dato al tuo prossimo, a Davide.	17 Yahweh has treated you as he foretold through me; he has snatched the sovereignty from your handand given it to your neighbour, David,
18 Poiché non hai ascoltato il comando del Signore e non hai dato effetto alla sua ira contro Amalek, per questo il Signore ti ha trattato oggi in questo modo.	18 because you disobeyed Yahweh's voice and did not execute his fierce anger against Amalek. That iswhy Yahweh is treating you like this today.
19 Il Signore abbandonerà inoltre Israele insieme con te nelle mani dei Filistei. Domani tu e i tuoi figli sarete con me; il Signore consegnerà anche l'accampamento d'Israele in mano ai Filistei".	19 What is more, Yahweh will deliver Israel and you too, into the power of the Philistines. Tomorrow youand your sons will be with me; and Yahweh wil hand over the army of Israel into the power of the Philistines.'
20 All'istante Saul cadde a terra lungo disteso, pieno di terrore per le parole di Samuele; inoltre era già senza forze perché non aveva mangiato niente tutto quel giorno e la notte.	20 Immediately Saul fell ful length on the ground. He was terrified by what Samuel had said and wasalso weak from having eaten nothing al that day and night.
21 Allora la donna si accostò a Saul e vedendolo tutto spaventato, gli disse: "Ecco, la tua serva ha ascoltato i tuoi ordini. Ho esposto al pericolo la vita per obbedire alla parola che mi hai detto.	21 The woman went to Saul and, seeing his terror, said, 'Look, your servant has obeyed your order; Ihave taken my life in my hands and obeyed the command which you gave me.
22 Ma ora ascolta anche tu la voce della tua serva. Ti ho preparato un pezzo di pane: mangia e riprenderai le forze, perché devi rimetterti in viaggio".	22 Now please, you in your turn listen to what your servant has to say. Let me offer you a piece ofbread. Eat something and get some strength for your journey.'
23 Egli rifiutava e diceva: "Non mangio". Ma i suoi servi insieme alla donna lo costrinsero e accettò di mangiare. Si alzò da terra e sedette sul letto.	23 But he refused. 'I wil not eat,' he said. His servants however pressed him, and so did the woman.Al owing himself to be persuaded by them, he got up from the ground and sat on the bed.
24 La donna aveva in casa un vitello da ingrasso; si affrettò a ucciderlo, poi prese la farina, la impastò e gli fece cuocere pani azzimi.	24 The woman owned a fattened calf which she quickly slaughtered, and she took some flour andkneaded it and with it baked some unleavened cakes
25 Mise tutto davanti a Saul e ai suoi servi. Essi mangiarono, poi si alzarono e partirono quella stessa notte.	25 which she served to Saul and his servants; they ate, and then set off and left the same night.
