1 Il Signore disse a Mosè e ad Eleazaro, figlio del sacerdote Aronne:	1 After this plague, Yahweh spoke to Moses and to the priest Eleazar son of Aaron and said:
2 "Fate il censimento di tutta la comunità degli Israeliti, dall'età di vent'anni in su, secondo i loro casati paterni, di quanti in Israele possono andare in guerra".	2 'Take a census of the whole community of Israelites, by families: al those of twenty years and over, fitto bear arms in Israel.'
3 Mosè e il sacerdote Eleazaro dissero loro nelle steppe di Moab presso il Giordano di fronte a Gèrico:	3 So Moses and the priest Eleazar took a census of them on the Plains of Moab, near the Jordan byJericho. They counted
4 "Si faccia il censimento dall'età di vent'anni in su, come il Signore aveva ordinato a Mosè e agli Israeliti, quando uscirono dal paese d'Egitto".	4 (as Yahweh had ordered Moses and the Israelites after leaving Egypt) men of twenty years and over:

10 la terra spalancò la bocca e li inghiottì insieme con Core, quando quella gente perì e il fuoco divorò duecentocinquanta uomini, che servirono d'esempio.	10 The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them (with Korah when that group perished), when fireconsumed the two hundred and fifty men. They were a sign.
11 Ma i figli di Core non perirono.	11 Korah's sons, however, did not perish.

52 Il Signore disse a Mosè:	52 Yahweh then spoke to Moses and said,
53 "Il paese sarà diviso tra di essi, per essere la loro proprietà, secondo il numero delle persone.	53 'The country must be shared out among these as a heritage, proportionately to the number of thoseinscribed.
54 A quelli che sono in maggior numero darai in possesso una porzione maggiore; a quelli che sono in minor numero darai una porzione minore; si darà a ciascuno la sua porzione secondo il censimento.	54 To the large in number you wil give a large area of land, to the smal in number a small area; toeach the heritage wil be in proportion to the number registered.
55 Ma la ripartizione del paese sarà gettata a sorte; essi riceveranno la rispettiva proprietà secondo i nomi delle loro tribù paterne.	55 The sharing out of the country must, however, be done by lot. Each wil receive a heritageproportionate to the number of names in their patriarchal tribes;

57 Questi sono i leviti dei quali si fece il censimento secondo le loro famiglie: da Gherson discende la famiglia dei Ghersoniti; da Keat la famiglia dei Keatiti; da Merari la famiglia dei Merariti.	57 These, by clans, are the Levites that were registered: for Gershon, the Gershonite clan; for Kohath,the Kohathite clan; for Merari, the Merarite clan.
58 Queste sono le famiglie di Levi: la famiglia dei Libniti, la famiglia degli Ebroniti, la famiglia dei Macliti, la famiglia dei Musiti, la famiglia dei Coriti. 59 La moglie di Amram si chiamava Iochebed, figlia di Levi, che nacque a Levi in Egitto; essa partorì ad Amram Aronne, Mosè e Maria loro sorella.	59 Amram's wife was cal ed Jokebed daughter of Levi, born to him in Egypt. To Amram she boreAaron, Moses and Miriam their sister.
60 Ad Aronne nacquero Nadab e Abiu, Eleazaro e Itamar.	60 Aaron fathered Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
61 Ora Nadab e Abiu morirono quando presentarono al Signore un fuoco profano.	61 Nadab and Abihu died when they brought unauthorised fire before Yahweh.
62 Gli uomini registrati furono ventitremila: tutti maschi, dall'età di un mese in su. Non furono compresi nel censimento degli Israeliti perché non fu data loro alcuna proprietà tra gli Israeliti.	62 Altogether twenty-three thousand males of one month and over were registered. They were notregistered with the Israelites, since they were given no heritage with the Israelites.
