Livre de la Genèse 11

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Tout le monde se servait d'une même langue et des mêmes mots.	1 The whole world spoke the same language, with the same vocabulary.
2 Comme les hommes se déplaçaient à l'orient, ils trouvèrent une vallée au pays de Shinéar et ils s'yétablirent.	2 Now, as people moved eastwards they found a valley in the land of Shinar where they settled.
3 Ils se dirent l'un à l'autre: "Allons! Faisons des briques et cuisons-les au feu!" La brique leur servitde pierre et le bitume leur servit de mortier.	3 They said to one another, 'Come, let us make bricks and bake them in the fire.' For stone they usedbricks, and for mortar they used bitumen.
4 Ils dirent: "Allons! Bâtissons-nous une ville et une tour dont le sommet pénètre les cieux! Faisons-nous un nom et ne soyons pas dispersés sur toute la terre!"	4 'Come,' they said, 'let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top reaching heaven. Let us makea name for ourselves, so that we do not get scattered all over the world.'
5 Or Yahvé descendit pour voir la ville et la tour que les hommes avaient bâties.	5 Now Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower that the people had built.
6 Et Yahvé dit: "Voici que tous font un seul peuple et parlent une seule langue, et tel est le début deleurs entreprises!Maintenant, aucun dessein ne sera irréalisable pour eux.	6 'So they are al a single people with a single language!' said Yahweh. 'This is only the start of theirundertakings! Now nothing they plan to do wil be beyond them.
7 Allons! Descendons! Et là, confondons leur langage pour qu'ils ne s'entendent plus les uns lesautres."	7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language there, so that they cannot understand one another.'
8 Yahvé les dispersa de là sur toute la face de la terre et ils cessèrent de bâtir la ville.	8 Yahweh scattered them thence all over the world, and they stopped building the city.
9 Aussi la nomma-t-on Babel, car c'est là que Yahvé confondit le langage de tous les habitants de laterre et c'est de là qu'illes dispersa sur toute la face de la terre.	9 That is why it was cal ed Babel, since there Yahweh confused the language of the whole world, andfrom there Yahweh scattered them al over the world.
10 Voici la descendance de Sem: Quand Sem eut cent ans, il engendra Arpakshad, deux ans après ledéluge.	10 These are Shem's descendants: When Shem was a hundred years old he fathered Arpachshad, twoyears after the flood.
11 Après la naissance d'Arpakshad, Sem vécut 500 ans et il engendra des fils et des filles.	11 After the birth of Arpachshad, Shem lived five hundred years and fathered sons and daughters.
12 Quand Arpakshad eut 35 ans, il engendra Shélah.	12 When Arpachshad was thirty-five years old he fathered Shelah.
13 Après la naissance de Shélah, Arpakshad vécut 403 ans et ilengendra des fils et des filles.	13 After the birth of Shelah, Arpachshad lived four hundred and three years and fathered sons anddaughters.
14 Quand Shélah eut 30 ans, il engendra Eber.	14 When Shelah was thirty years old he fathered Eber.
15 Après la naissance de Eber, Shélah vécut 403 ans et il engendra des fils et des filles.	15 After the birth of Eber, Shelah lived four hundred and three years and fathered sons and daughters.
16 Quand Eber eut 34 ans, il engendra Péleg.	16 When Eber was thirty-four years old he fathered Peleg.
17 Après la naissance de Péleg, Eber vécut 430 ans et il engendra des fils et des filles.	17 After the birth of Peleg, Eber lived four hundred and thirty years and fathered sons and daughters.
18 Quand Péleg eut 30 ans, il engendra Réu.	18 When Peleg was thirty years old he fathered Reu.
19 Après la naissance de Réu, Péleg vécut 209 ans et il engendra des fils et des filles.	19 After the birth of Reu, Peleg lived two hundred and nine years and fathered sons and daughters.
20 Quand Réu eut 32 ans, il engendra Serug.	20 When Reu was thirty-two years old he fathered Serug.
21 Après la naissance de Serug, Réu vécut 207 ans et il engendra des fils et des filles.	21 After the birth of Serug, Reu lived two hundred and seven years and fathered sons and daughters.
22 Quand Serug eut 30 ans, il engendra Nahor.	22 When Serug was thirty years old he fathered Nahor.
23 Après la naissance de Nahor, Serug vécut 200 ans et il engendra des fils et des filles.	23 After the birth of Nahor, Serug lived two hundred years and fathered sons and daughters.
24 Quand Nahor eut 29 ans, il engendra Térah.	24 When Nahor was twenty-nine years old he fathered Terah.
25 Après la naissance de Térah, Nahor vécut 119 ans et ilengendra des fils et des filles.	25 After the birth of Terah, Nahor lived a hundred and nineteen years and fathered sons and daughters.
26 Quand Térah eut 70 ans, il engendra Abram, Nahor et Harân.	26 When Terah was seventy years old he fathered Abram, Nahor and Haran.
27 Voici la descendance de Térah: Térah engendra Abram, Nahor et Harân. Harân engendra Lot.	27 These are Terah's descendants: Terah fathered Abram, Nahor and Haran. Haran fathered Lot.
28 Harân mourut en présence de son père Térah dans son pays natal, Ur des Chaldéens.	28 Haran died in the presence of his father Terah in his native land, Ur of the Chaldaeans.
29 Abram et Nahor se marièrent: la femme d'Abram s'appelait Saraï; la femme de Nahor s'appelaitMilka, fille de Harân, quiétait le père de Milka et de Yiska.	29 Abram and Nahor both married: Abram's wife was cal ed Sarai, Nahor's wife was called Milcahdaughter of Haran, father of Milcah and Iscah.
30 Or Saraï était stérile: elle n'avait pas d'enfant.	30 Sarai was barren, having no child.
31 Térah prit son fils Abram, son petit-fils Lot, fils de Harân, et sa bru Saraï, femme d'Abram. Il lesfit sortir d'Ur des Chaldéens pour aller au pays de Canaan, mais, arrivés à Harân, ils s'y établirent.	31 Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law the wife ofAbram, and made them leave Ur of the Chaldaeans to go to the land of Canaan. But on arrival in Haran theysettled there.
32 La durée de la vie de Térah fut de 205 ans, puis il mourut à Harân.	32 Terah's life lasted two hundred and five years; then he died at Haran.
