Proverbios 24

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 No tengas envidia de los malos, no desees estar con ellos,	1 Do not be envious of the wicked or wish for their company,
2 porque su corazón trama violencias, y sus labios hablan de desgracias.	2 for their hearts are scheming violence, their lips talking mischief.
3 Con la sabiduria se construye una casa, y con la prudencia se afianza;	3 By wisdom a house is built, by understanding it is made strong;
4 con la ciencia se llenan los cilleros de todo bien precioso y deseable.	4 by knowledge its storerooms are fil ed with riches of every kind, rare and desirable.
5 El varón sabio está fuerte, el hombre de ciencia fortalece su vigor;	5 The wise is mighty in power, strength is reinforced by science;
6 porque con sabios consejos harás la guerra, y en la abundancia de consejeros está el éxito.	6 for it is by strategy that you wage war, and victory depends on having many counsellors.
7 Muy alta está la sabiduría para el necio: no abre su boca en la puerta.	7 For a fool wisdom is an inaccessible fortress: at the city gate he does not open his mouth.
8 Al que piensa en hacer mal, se le llama maestro en intrigas.	8 Anyone intent on evil-doing is known as a master in cunning.
9 La necedad sólo maquina pecados, el arrogante es abominable a los hombres.	9 Folly dreams of nothing but sin, the mocker is abhorrent.
10 Si te dejas abatir el día de la angustia, angosta es tu fuerza.	10 If you lose heart when things go wrong, your strength is not worth much.
11 Libra a los que son llevados a la muerte, y a los conducidos al suplicio ¡si los puedieras retener!	11 Save those being dragged towards death, but can you rescue those on their way to execution?
12 Si dices: «Mira que no lo sabíamos», ¿acaso el que pesa los corazones no comprende? ¿el que vigila tu alma, no lo sabe? El da a cada hombre según sus obras.	12 If you say, 'But look, we did not know,' wil the Weigher of the heart pay no attention? Wil not theGuardian of your soul be aware and repay you as your deeds deserve?
13 Come miel, hijo mío, porque es buena. Panal de miel es dulce a tu paladar.	13 Eat honey, my child, since it is good; honey that drips from the comb is sweet to the taste:
14 Pues sábete que así será la sabiduría para tu alma, y si la hallas, hay un mañana, y tu esperanza no será aniquilada.	14 and so, for sure, wil wisdom be to your soul: find it and you will have a future and your hope wil notbe cut short.
15 No pongas, malvado, asechanzas en la mansión del justo, no hagas violencia a su morada.	15 Do not lurk, wicked man, round the upright man's dwel ing, do not despoil his house.
16 Que siete veces cae el justo, pero se levanta, mientras los malos se hunden en la desgracia.	16 For though the upright fal s seven times, he gets up again; the wicked are the ones who stumble inadversity.
17 No te alegres por la caída de tu enemigo, no se goce tu corazón cuando se hunde;	17 Should your enemy fal , do not rejoice, when he stumbles do not let your heart exult:
18 no sea que lo vea Yahveh y le desagrade, y aparte de él su ira.	18 for fear that Yahweh wil be displeased at the sight and turn his anger away from him.
19 No te enfurezcas por causa de los malvados, ni tengas envidia de los malos.	19 Do not be indignant about the wicked, do not be envious of the evil,
20 Porque para el malvado no hay un mañana: la lámpara de los malos se extinguirá.	20 for there is no future for the evil, the lamp of the wicked wil go out.
21 Teme, hijo mío, a Yahveh y al rey, no te relaciones con los innovadores,	21 Fear Yahweh, my child, and fear the king; do not al y yourself with innovators;
22 porque al instante surgirá su calamidad, y ¿quién sabe el castigo que pueden ambos dar?	22 for suddenly disaster wil loom for them, and who knows what ruin wil seize them and their friends?
23 También esto pertenece a los sabios: Hacer acepción de personas en el juicio no está bien.	23 The fol owing are also taken from the sages: To show partiality in judgement is not good.
24 Al que dice al malo: «Eres justo», le maldicen los pueblos y le detestan las naciones;	24 Whoever tells the wicked, 'You are upright,' peoples curse him, nations revile him;
25 los que los castigan, viven felices, y viene sobre ellos la bendición del bien.	25 but those who correct him, come out of it wel , on them will come a happy blessing.
26 Besa en los labios, el que responde con franqueza.	26 Whoever returns an honest answer, plants a kiss on the lips.
27 Ordena tus trabajos de fuera y prepara tus faenas en el campo; y después puedes construirte tu casa.	27 Plan what you want on the open ground, make your preparation in the field; then go and build yourhouse.
28 No des testimonio, en vano, contra tu prójimo, ni engañes con tus labios.	28 Do not bear witness lightly against your neighbour, nor deceive with your lips.
29 No digas: «Como él me ha hecho a mí, le haré yo a él, daré a cada uno según sus obras».	29 Do not say, 'I wil treat my neighbour as my neighbour treated me; I will repay everyone what eachhas earned.'
30 He pasado junto al campo de un perezoso, y junto a la viña de un hombre insensato,	30 By the idler's field I was passing, by the vineyard of a man who had no sense,
31 y estaba todo invadido de ortigas, los cardos cubrían el suelo, la cerca de piedras estaba derruída.	31 there it al lay, deep in thorns, entirely overgrown with weeds, and its stone wal broken down.
32 Al verlo, medité en mi corazón, al contemplarlo aprendí la lección:	32 And as I gazed I pondered, I drew this lesson from the sight,
33 «Un poco dormir, otro poco dormitar, otro poco tumbarse con los brazos cruzados	33 'A little sleep, a little drowsiness, a little folding of the arms to lie back
34 y llegará, como vagabundo, tu miseria y como un mendigo tu pobreza».	34 and poverty comes like a vagrant, and, like a beggar, dearth.'
