1 Make your appeal then. Wil you find an answer? To which of the holy ones wil you turn?	1 Kiálts csak! Van-e, aki felel neked? Fordulj valakihez a szentek közül!
2 Resentment kil s the senseless, and anger brings death to the fool.	2 Valóban öli a balgát a harag, s az együgyűt bosszúság gyilkolja.
3 I have seen the senseless taking root, when a curse fel suddenly on his house.	3 Láttam balgát gyökeret verni, de jó sorát tüstént megátkoztam.
4 His children are deprived of prop and stay, ruined at the gate, and no one to defend them;	4 Távol esnek fiai a jóléttől, eltapossák őket a kapuban, és nem lesz, aki mentse őket.
5 their harvest goes to feed the hungry, God snatches it from their mouths, and covetous people thirst fortheir possessions.	5 Feleszi termését az éhező, s elragadja fegyverrel kezében; szomjasok szürcsölik vagyonát.
6 No, misery does not grow out of the soil, nor sorrow spring from the ground.	6 Semmi sem esik meg a földön ok nélkül, s a nyomorúság nem a földből fakad;
7 It is people who breed trouble for themselves as surely as eagles fly to the height.	7 az ember úgy születik nyomorúságra, mint a madár repülésre.
8 If I were you, I should appeal to God and lay my case before him.	8 Én pedig az Úrhoz fordulnék kéréssel, Isten elé terjeszteném ügyemet,
9 His works are great, past al reckoning, marvels beyond al counting.	9 aki nagyokat visz végbe, s amiket nem lehet kifürkészni, csodákat, amiknek nincsen száma;
10 He sends down rain to the earth, pours down water on the fields.	10 aki esőt bocsát a föld színére, és vízzel öntözi az egész határt,
11 If his wil is to raise up the downcast, or exalt the afflicted to the heights of prosperity,	11 hogy az alázatosakat felemelje, s a szomorúakat jólétbe helyezze;
12 he frustrates the plans of the artful so that they cannot succeed in their intrigues.	12 aki széttépi a ravaszok fondorkodását, hogy kezük ne vihesse véghez, amit kezdtek;
13 He traps the crafty in the snare of their own trickery, throws the plans of the cunning into disarray.	13 aki megfogja a bölcseket saját csalárdságukkal, és meghiúsítja az álnokok terveit:
14 In daylight they come up against darkness, and grope their way as if noon were night.	14 fényes nappal sötétbe botlanak, délben úgy tapogatnak, mint éjjel;
15 He rescues the bankrupt from their jaws, and the needy from the grasp of the mighty.	15 aki megmenti a szegényt szájuk pallosától, s a nyomorban élőt az erősnek karjától;
16 Hope springs afresh for the weak, and wickedness must shut its mouth.	16 így reménye nyílik a szegénynek, a gazság pedig befogja száját.
17 Blessed are those whom God corrects! Do not then scorn the lesson of Shaddai!	17 Boldog az az ember, akit Isten megfenyít! Meg ne vesd tehát az Úr feddését!
18 For he who wounds is he who soothes the sore, and the hand that hurts is the hand that heals.	18 Ő sebet ejt ugyan, de be is kötözi, megver – de keze gyógyít is.
19 Six times he wil deliver you from sorrow, and the seventh time, evil wil not touch you.	19 Kiragad téged hat szorongatásból, és nem ér baj a hetedikben.
20 In time of famine, he wil save you from death, and in wartime from the stroke of the sword.	20 Az éhínségben megment a haláltól, s a hadban a kardnak erejétől.
21 You will be safe from the lash of the tongue, unafraid at the approach of the despoiler.	21 Biztonságban vagy a nyelvnek ostorától, és nem kell félned, ha pusztulás közeledik;
22 You will laugh at drought and frost, and have no fear of the beasts of the earth.	22 nevethetsz pusztuláson, éhségen, és nem kell félned a föld vadjaitól,
23 You will have a pact with the stones of the field, and live in amity with wild beasts.	23 mert frigyben vagy a szántó köveivel, s a mező vadja veled békességben lesz.
24 You will know that your tent is secure, and your sheepfold unharmed when you inspect it.	24 Épségben tudhatod sátradat, és nem találsz hiányt, ha megnézed hajlékodat.
25 You will see your descendants multiply, your offspring grow like the grass in the fields.	25 Majd tapasztalod, hogy magzatod sokasodik, és sarjad annyi lesz, mint a fű a földön.
26 At a ripe age you wil go to the grave, like a wheatsheaf stacked in due season.	26 Bővelkedve szállsz a sírba, úgy, mint a learatott gabonát idejében betakarítják.
27 Al this we have observed and it is so! Heed it, you wil be the wiser for it!	27 Ezt íme, így kutattuk ki, de így is van; halljad tehát és jegyezd meg magadnak!«
