1 Make your appeal then. Wil you find an answer? To which of the holy ones wil you turn?	1 Chiama adunque, se v'ha alcuno, che ti risponda, e ricorri ad alcuno dei santi.
2 Resentment kil s the senseless, and anger brings death to the fool.	2 Veramente lo stolto è messo a morte dall'ira, e il piccolo è ucciso dall'invidia.
3 I have seen the senseless taking root, when a curse fel suddenly on his house.	3 Vidi io un insensato aver messe sode radici, e subito maledissi la sua appariscenza.
4 His children are deprived of prop and stay, ruined at the gate, and no one to defend them;	4 I suoi figliuoli saran lontani dalla salute, e saran calpestati alla porta, e non troveranno liberatore.
5 their harvest goes to feed the hungry, God snatches it from their mouths, and covetous people thirst fortheir possessions.	5 Le sue messi saran divorate da un affamato, ed ei sarà condotto via dagli armati, e uomini assetati sorbiranno le sue ricchezze.
6 No, misery does not grow out of the soil, nor sorrow spring from the ground.	6 Nissuna cosa si fa sulla terra senza cagione, e gli affanni non germogliano dal terreno.
7 It is people who breed trouble for themselves as surely as eagles fly to the height.	7 Nasce l'uomo ai travagli, come al volo gli uccelli.
8 If I were you, I should appeal to God and lay my case before him.	8 Per la qual cosa io pregherò il Signore, e a lui rivolgerò le mie parole,
9 His works are great, past al reckoning, marvels beyond al counting.	9 Il quale fa cose grandi, e imperscrutabili, e mirabili senza numero:
10 He sends down rain to the earth, pours down water on the fields.	10 Che manda la pioggia sulla faccia della terra, e tutte le cose innaffia colle acque,
11 If his wil is to raise up the downcast, or exalt the afflicted to the heights of prosperity,	11 Che in alto pone que' che erano al basso; e gli afflitti rincora colla salute:
12 he frustrates the plans of the artful so that they cannot succeed in their intrigues.	12 Che dissipa le brame de' maligni, aftinché non conducano a fine le mani loro quel che aveano cominciato:
13 He traps the crafty in the snare of their own trickery, throws the plans of the cunning into disarray.	13 Che nella loro astuzia impiglia i sapienti, e sperde i disegni de' cattivi:
14 In daylight they come up against darkness, and grope their way as if noon were night.	14 In pieno giorno si troveran nelle tenebre, e nel meriggio andran tentoni come di notte.
15 He rescues the bankrupt from their jaws, and the needy from the grasp of the mighty.	15 Ma egli salverà il meschino dalla spada della lor bocca, e il povero dalle mani dell'uom violento.
16 Hope springs afresh for the weak, and wickedness must shut its mouth.	16 E il meschino avrà speranza, o l'iniquità chiuderà la sua bocca.
17 Blessed are those whom God corrects! Do not then scorn the lesson of Shaddai!	17 Beato l'uomo, cui Dio corregge: non disprezzar tu adunque la riprensione del Signore:
18 For he who wounds is he who soothes the sore, and the hand that hurts is the hand that heals.	18 Perocché egli ferisce, e fascia la piaga, percuote, e medica di sua mano.
19 Six times he wil deliver you from sorrow, and the seventh time, evil wil not touch you.	19 Alle sei tribolazioni egli ti libererà, e alla settima il male non ti toccherà.
20 In time of famine, he wil save you from death, and in wartime from the stroke of the sword.	20 Egli nella fame ti salverà dalla morte, e dalla spada in tempo di guerra.
21 You will be safe from the lash of the tongue, unafraid at the approach of the despoiler.	21 Sarai messo in sicuro dal flagello di lingua rea, e quando venga calamità, non ne avrai paura.
22 You will laugh at drought and frost, and have no fear of the beasts of the earth.	22 Nelle desolazioni, e nelle carestie tu riderai, e non temerai le fiere selvagge.
23 You will have a pact with the stones of the field, and live in amity with wild beasts.	23 Le pietre stesse de' campi ti averanno rispetto, e le bestie selvagge mariteranno pace con te.
24 You will know that your tent is secure, and your sheepfold unharmed when you inspect it.	24 E vedrai regnar la pace nel tuo padiglione, e nel governar la tua bella casa non commetterai mancamento.
25 You will see your descendants multiply, your offspring grow like the grass in the fields.	25 Vedrai eziandìo come numerosa sarà la tua stirpe, e la tua discendenza come l'erba dei campi.
26 At a ripe age you wil go to the grave, like a wheatsheaf stacked in due season.	26 Pieno di anni entrerai nel sepolcro, come si rinchiude a suo tempo una massa di grano.
27 Al this we have observed and it is so! Heed it, you wil be the wiser for it!	27 Or quello che noi abbiamo esposto è così: tu che hai ascoltato, ripensavi.
