NEW JERUSALEMLXX
Make your appeal then. Wil you find an answer? To which of the holy ones wil you turn?1 επικαλεσαι δε ει τις σοι υπακουσεται η ει τινα αγγελων αγιων οψη
Resentment kil s the senseless, and anger brings death to the fool.2 και γαρ αφρονα αναιρει οργη πεπλανημενον δε θανατοι ζηλος
I have seen the senseless taking root, when a curse fel suddenly on his house.3 εγω δε εωρακα αφρονας ριζαν βαλλοντας αλλ' ευθεως εβρωθη αυτων η διαιτα
His children are deprived of prop and stay, ruined at the gate, and no one to defend them;4 πορρω γενοιντο οι υιοι αυτων απο σωτηριας κολαβρισθειησαν δε επι θυραις ησσονων και ουκ εσται ο εξαιρουμενος
their harvest goes to feed the hungry, God snatches it from their mouths, and covetous people thirst fortheir possessions.5 α γαρ εκεινοι συνηγαγον δικαιοι εδονται αυτοι δε εκ κακων ουκ εξαιρετοι εσονται εκσιφωνισθειη αυτων η ισχυς
No, misery does not grow out of the soil, nor sorrow spring from the ground.6 ου γαρ μη εξελθη εκ της γης κοπος ουδε εξ ορεων αναβλαστησει πονος
It is people who breed trouble for themselves as surely as eagles fly to the height.7 αλλα ανθρωπος γενναται κοπω νεοσσοι δε γυπος τα υψηλα πετονται
If I were you, I should appeal to God and lay my case before him.8 ου μην δε αλλα εγω δεηθησομαι κυριου κυριον δε τον παντων δεσποτην επικαλεσομαι
His works are great, past al reckoning, marvels beyond al counting.9 τον ποιουντα μεγαλα και ανεξιχνιαστα ενδοξα τε και εξαισια ων ουκ εστιν αριθμος
He sends down rain to the earth, pours down water on the fields.10 τον διδοντα υετον επι την γην αποστελλοντα υδωρ επι την υπ' ουρανον
If his wil is to raise up the downcast, or exalt the afflicted to the heights of prosperity,11 τον ποιουντα ταπεινους εις υψος και απολωλοτας εξεγειροντα
he frustrates the plans of the artful so that they cannot succeed in their intrigues.12 διαλλασσοντα βουλας πανουργων και ου μη ποιησουσιν αι χειρες αυτων αληθες
He traps the crafty in the snare of their own trickery, throws the plans of the cunning into disarray.13 ο καταλαμβανων σοφους εν τη φρονησει βουλην δε πολυπλοκων εξεστησεν
In daylight they come up against darkness, and grope their way as if noon were night.14 ημερας συναντησεται αυτοις σκοτος το δε μεσημβρινον ψηλαφησαισαν ισα νυκτι
He rescues the bankrupt from their jaws, and the needy from the grasp of the mighty.15 απολοιντο δε εν πολεμω αδυνατος δε εξελθοι εκ χειρος δυναστου
Hope springs afresh for the weak, and wickedness must shut its mouth.16 ειη δε αδυνατω ελπις αδικου δε στομα εμφραχθειη
Blessed are those whom God corrects! Do not then scorn the lesson of Shaddai!17 μακαριος δε ανθρωπος ον ηλεγξεν ο κυριος νουθετημα δε παντοκρατορος μη απαναινου
For he who wounds is he who soothes the sore, and the hand that hurts is the hand that heals.18 αυτος γαρ αλγειν ποιει και παλιν αποκαθιστησιν επαισεν και αι χειρες αυτου ιασαντο
Six times he wil deliver you from sorrow, and the seventh time, evil wil not touch you.19 εξακις εξ αναγκων σε εξελειται εν δε τω εβδομω ου μη αψηται σου κακον
In time of famine, he wil save you from death, and in wartime from the stroke of the sword.20 εν λιμω ρυσεται σε εκ θανατου εν πολεμω δε εκ χειρος σιδηρου λυσει σε
You will be safe from the lash of the tongue, unafraid at the approach of the despoiler.21 απο μαστιγος γλωσσης σε κρυψει και ου μη φοβηθης απο κακων ερχομενων
You will laugh at drought and frost, and have no fear of the beasts of the earth.22 αδικων και ανομων καταγελαση απο δε θηριων αγριων ου μη φοβηθης
You will have a pact with the stones of the field, and live in amity with wild beasts.23 θηρες γαρ αγριοι ειρηνευσουσιν σοι
You will know that your tent is secure, and your sheepfold unharmed when you inspect it.24 ειτα γνωση οτι ειρηνευσει σου ο οικος η δε διαιτα της σκηνης σου ου μη αμαρτη
You will see your descendants multiply, your offspring grow like the grass in the fields.25 γνωση δε οτι πολυ το σπερμα σου τα δε τεκνα σου εσται ωσπερ το παμβοτανον του αγρου
At a ripe age you wil go to the grave, like a wheatsheaf stacked in due season.26 ελευση δε εν ταφω ωσπερ σιτος ωριμος κατα καιρον θεριζομενος η ωσπερ θιμωνια αλωνος καθ' ωραν συγκομισθεισα
Al this we have observed and it is so! Heed it, you wil be the wiser for it!27 ιδου ταυτα ουτως εξιχνιασαμεν ταυτα εστιν α ακηκοαμεν συ δε γνωθι σεαυτω ει τι επραξας
