1 Make your appeal then. Wil you find an answer? To which of the holy ones wil you turn?	1 Grida pure! Ti risponderà forse qualcuno? E a chi fra i santi ti rivolgerai?
2 Resentment kil s the senseless, and anger brings death to the fool.	2 Poiché la collera uccide lo stolto e l’invidia fa morire lo sciocco.
3 I have seen the senseless taking root, when a curse fel suddenly on his house.	3 Ho visto lo stolto mettere radici e subito ho dichiarato maledetta la sua dimora.
4 His children are deprived of prop and stay, ruined at the gate, and no one to defend them;	4 I suoi figli non sono mai al sicuro, e in tribunale sono oppressi, senza difensore;
5 their harvest goes to feed the hungry, God snatches it from their mouths, and covetous people thirst fortheir possessions.	5 l’affamato ne divora la messe, anche se ridotta a spine, la porterà via e gente assetata agognerà le sue sostanze.
6 No, misery does not grow out of the soil, nor sorrow spring from the ground.	6 Non esce certo dal suolo la sventura né germoglia dalla terra il dolore,
7 It is people who breed trouble for themselves as surely as eagles fly to the height.	7 ma è l’uomo che genera pene, come le scintille volano in alto.
8 If I were you, I should appeal to God and lay my case before him.	8 Io, invece, mi rivolgerei a Dio e a Dio esporrei la mia causa:
9 His works are great, past al reckoning, marvels beyond al counting.	9 a lui, che fa cose tanto grandi da non potersi indagare, meraviglie da non potersi contare,
10 He sends down rain to the earth, pours down water on the fields.	10 che dà la pioggia alla terra e manda l’acqua sulle campagne.
11 If his wil is to raise up the downcast, or exalt the afflicted to the heights of prosperity,	11 Egli esalta gli umili e solleva a prosperità gli afflitti;
12 he frustrates the plans of the artful so that they cannot succeed in their intrigues.	12 è lui che rende vani i pensieri degli scaltri, perché le loro mani non abbiano successo.
13 He traps the crafty in the snare of their own trickery, throws the plans of the cunning into disarray.	13 Egli sorprende i saccenti nella loro astuzia e fa crollare il progetto degli scaltri.
14 In daylight they come up against darkness, and grope their way as if noon were night.	14 Di giorno incappano nel buio, in pieno sole brancolano come di notte.
15 He rescues the bankrupt from their jaws, and the needy from the grasp of the mighty.	15 Egli invece salva il povero dalla spada della loro bocca e dalla mano del violento.
16 Hope springs afresh for the weak, and wickedness must shut its mouth.	16 C’è speranza per il misero, ma chi fa l’ingiustizia deve chiudere la bocca.
17 Blessed are those whom God corrects! Do not then scorn the lesson of Shaddai!	17 Perciò, beato l’uomo che è corretto da Dio: non sdegnare la correzione dell’Onnipotente,
18 For he who wounds is he who soothes the sore, and the hand that hurts is the hand that heals.	18 perché egli ferisce e fascia la piaga, colpisce e la sua mano risana.
19 Six times he wil deliver you from sorrow, and the seventh time, evil wil not touch you.	19 Da sei tribolazioni ti libererà e alla settima il male non ti toccherà;
20 In time of famine, he wil save you from death, and in wartime from the stroke of the sword.	20 nella carestia ti libererà dalla morte e in guerra dal colpo della spada,
21 You will be safe from the lash of the tongue, unafraid at the approach of the despoiler.	21 sarai al riparo dal flagello della lingua, né temerai quando giunge la rovina.
22 You will laugh at drought and frost, and have no fear of the beasts of the earth.	22 Della rovina e della fame riderai né temerai le bestie selvatiche;
23 You will have a pact with the stones of the field, and live in amity with wild beasts.	23 con le pietre del campo avrai un patto e le bestie selvatiche saranno in pace con te.
24 You will know that your tent is secure, and your sheepfold unharmed when you inspect it.	24 Vedrai che sarà prospera la tua tenda, visiterai la tua proprietà e non sarai deluso.
25 You will see your descendants multiply, your offspring grow like the grass in the fields.	25 Vedrai che sarà numerosa la tua prole, i tuoi rampolli come l’erba dei prati.
26 At a ripe age you wil go to the grave, like a wheatsheaf stacked in due season.	26 Te ne andrai alla tomba in piena maturità, come un covone raccolto a suo tempo.
27 Al this we have observed and it is so! Heed it, you wil be the wiser for it!	27 Ecco, questo l’abbiamo studiato a fondo, ed è vero. Ascoltalo e imparalo per il tuo bene».
