1 Make your appeal then. Wil you find an answer? To which of the holy ones wil you turn?	1 - Chiama pur, se c'è chi ti risponda, e rivolgiti a qualcuno dei santi.
2 Resentment kil s the senseless, and anger brings death to the fool.	2 Però lo stolto lo uccide la rabbia e al dissennato dà morte l'invidia.
3 I have seen the senseless taking root, when a curse fel suddenly on his house.	3 Io ben vidi lo stolto [quale albero] con sode radici, ma imputridì la sua prosperità ad un tratto.
4 His children are deprived of prop and stay, ruined at the gate, and no one to defend them;	4 Lungi da salvezza finiranno i suoi figli, oppressi saranno sulla porta senza che alcun li salvi.
5 their harvest goes to feed the hungry, God snatches it from their mouths, and covetous people thirst fortheir possessions.	5 La sua mèsse la divorerà l'affamato, un armato rapirà via lui, gente assetata succhierà le sue ricchezze.
6 No, misery does not grow out of the soil, nor sorrow spring from the ground.	6 Non avviene nulla in terra senza cagione, e dal suolo non germoglia l'affanno:
7 It is people who breed trouble for themselves as surely as eagles fly to the height.	7 l'uomo nasce al travaglio, come l'uccello per il volo.
8 If I were you, I should appeal to God and lay my case before him.	8 Io quindi, [fossi in te], pregherei il Signore, e innanzi a Dio proporrei la mia causa:
9 His works are great, past al reckoning, marvels beyond al counting.	9 egli opera cose grandi e imperscrutabili, cose mirabili che non hanno numero;
10 He sends down rain to the earth, pours down water on the fields.	10 manda egli la pioggia sulla superficie della terraed irriga con le acque ogni cosa;
11 If his wil is to raise up the downcast, or exalt the afflicted to the heights of prosperity,	11 egli mette in alto tutti gli umiliati, e gli afflitti eleva in salvezza;
12 he frustrates the plans of the artful so that they cannot succeed in their intrigues.	12 egli dissipa i pensieri dei maligni, sì che le lor mani non compiano ciò che cominciarono;
13 He traps the crafty in the snare of their own trickery, throws the plans of the cunning into disarray.	13 comprende egli i sapienti nella loro accortezza, e disperde il disegno dei malvagi:
14 In daylight they come up against darkness, and grope their way as if noon were night.	14 di giorno incappano essi nelle tenebre, e come di notte brancolano a mezzodì.
15 He rescues the bankrupt from their jaws, and the needy from the grasp of the mighty.	15 Egli quindi salverà il misero dalla spada della lor bocca, e il poverello dalla mano del violento:
16 Hope springs afresh for the weak, and wickedness must shut its mouth.	16 sì che v'abbia per l'infelice una speranza, e l'iniquità chiuda la sua bocca.
17 Blessed are those whom God corrects! Do not then scorn the lesson of Shaddai!	17 Beato l'uomo che da Dio è corretto: la riprensione del Signore tu dunque non spregiare!
18 For he who wounds is he who soothes the sore, and the hand that hurts is the hand that heals.	18 Poichè egli ferisce e pur medica, percuote e pur le sue mani guariscono.
19 Six times he wil deliver you from sorrow, and the seventh time, evil wil not touch you.	19 In sei angustie egli ti salverà, e nella settima non ti toccherà il male:
20 In time of famine, he wil save you from death, and in wartime from the stroke of the sword.	20 nella fame ti libererà dalla morte, e nella mischia dal poter della spada;
21 You will be safe from the lash of the tongue, unafraid at the approach of the despoiler.	21 dal flagello della lingua [calunniatrice] sarai celato, nè temerai della calamità se venga;
22 You will laugh at drought and frost, and have no fear of the beasts of the earth.	22 della desolazione e carestia ti farai beffe, delle fiere della terra non avrai paura;
23 You will have a pact with the stones of the field, and live in amity with wild beasts.	23 pur dalle pietre dei campi tu trarrai vantaggio, e le fiere della terra saranno in pace con te.
24 You will know that your tent is secure, and your sheepfold unharmed when you inspect it.	24 Proverai che la tua tenda gode di pace, e visitando la tua dimora non troverai mancanza.
25 You will see your descendants multiply, your offspring grow like the grass in the fields.	25 Proverai pure che la tua prole s'accresce, e la tua progenie sarà come l'erba della terra.
26 At a ripe age you wil go to the grave, like a wheatsheaf stacked in due season.	26 Giungerai in decrepitezza alla tombacome racchiudesi la bica del grano a suo tempo.
27 Al this we have observed and it is so! Heed it, you wil be the wiser for it!	27 Ecco, la cosa sta come abbiamo investigato; su ciò che hai ascoltato tu rifletti.»
