1 Make your appeal then. Wil you find an answer? To which of the holy ones wil you turn?	1 Grida pure, vi sarà egli alcuno che ti risponda? Ed a cui d’infra i santi ti rivolgerai tu?
2 Resentment kil s the senseless, and anger brings death to the fool.	2 Conciossiachè il cruccio uccida il pazzo, E lo sdegno faccia morir lo stolto.
3 I have seen the senseless taking root, when a curse fel suddenly on his house.	3 Io ho veduto il pazzo che si radicava; Ma incontanente ho maledetto il suo abitacolo.
4 His children are deprived of prop and stay, ruined at the gate, and no one to defend them;	4 I suoi figliuoli son lungi dalla salvezza, E sono oppressati nella porta, senza che alcuno li riscuota.
5 their harvest goes to feed the hungry, God snatches it from their mouths, and covetous people thirst fortheir possessions.	5 L’affamato divora la ricolta di esso, E la rapisce di mezzo le spine; E i ladroni trangugiano le sue facoltà
6 No, misery does not grow out of the soil, nor sorrow spring from the ground.	6 Perciocchè la sventura non ispunta dalla polvere, E il dolore non germoglia dalla terra;
7 It is people who breed trouble for themselves as surely as eagles fly to the height.	7 Benchè l’uomo nasca per soffrire, Come le faville delle brace per volare in alto.
8 If I were you, I should appeal to God and lay my case before him.	8 Ma quant’è a me, io ricercherei pure Iddio, Ed addirizzerei il mio ragionamento a Dio;
9 His works are great, past al reckoning, marvels beyond al counting.	9 Il quale fa cose sì grandi, che non si posson investigare; E tante cose maravigliose, che non si possono annoverare;
10 He sends down rain to the earth, pours down water on the fields.	10 Che manda la pioggia in su la terra, E le acque in su le campagne;
11 If his wil is to raise up the downcast, or exalt the afflicted to the heights of prosperity,	11 Che innalza i bassi, E fa che quelli ch’erano in duolo sono esaltati per salvazione;
12 he frustrates the plans of the artful so that they cannot succeed in their intrigues.	12 Che disperde i pensieri degli astuti, E fa che le lor mani non possono far nulla di bene ordinato.
13 He traps the crafty in the snare of their own trickery, throws the plans of the cunning into disarray.	13 Egli soprapprende i savi nella loro astuzia, E fa che il consiglio de’ perversi va in ruina.
14 In daylight they come up against darkness, and grope their way as if noon were night.	14 Di giorno scontrano tenebre, E in pien mezzodì vanno a tentone come di notte.
15 He rescues the bankrupt from their jaws, and the needy from the grasp of the mighty.	15 Ma egli salva il bisognoso dalla spada, Dalla gola loro, e dalla mano del possente.
16 Hope springs afresh for the weak, and wickedness must shut its mouth.	16 E vi è qualche speranza per lo misero; Ma l’iniquità ha la bocca turata
17 Blessed are those whom God corrects! Do not then scorn the lesson of Shaddai!	17 Ecco, beato è l’uomo, il quale Iddio castiga; E però non disdegnar la correzione dell’Onnipotente.
18 For he who wounds is he who soothes the sore, and the hand that hurts is the hand that heals.	18 Perciocchè egli è quel che manda la doglia e altresì la fascia; Egli è quel che fa la piaga, e le sue mani altresì guariscono.
19 Six times he wil deliver you from sorrow, and the seventh time, evil wil not touch you.	19 In sei afflizioni egli ti libererà, Ed in sette il male non ti toccherà.
20 In time of famine, he wil save you from death, and in wartime from the stroke of the sword.	20 In tempo di fame egli ti riscoterà dalla morte, E in tempo di guerra dalla spada.
21 You will be safe from the lash of the tongue, unafraid at the approach of the despoiler.	21 Al tempo del flagello della lingua tu sarai nascosto; E non temerai la desolazione, quando verrà.
22 You will laugh at drought and frost, and have no fear of the beasts of the earth.	22 Tu riderai del guasto e della carestia; E non temerai delle fiere della terra.
23 You will have a pact with the stones of the field, and live in amity with wild beasts.	23 Perciocchè tu avrai patto eziandio con le pietre de’ campi; E le fiere della campagna ti saranno rendute pacifiche.
24 You will know that your tent is secure, and your sheepfold unharmed when you inspect it.	24 E tu conoscerai per prova che il tuo padiglione non sarà se non pace, E governerai la tua casa, e nulla ti verrà fallito.
25 You will see your descendants multiply, your offspring grow like the grass in the fields.	25 E riconoscerai che la tua progenie sarà molta, E che i tuoi discendenti saranno come l’erba della terra.
26 At a ripe age you wil go to the grave, like a wheatsheaf stacked in due season.	26 Tu entrerai in estrema vecchiezza nel sepolcro, Come la bica delle biade è accumulata al suo tempo.
27 Al this we have observed and it is so! Heed it, you wil be the wiser for it!	27 Ecco ciò noi ti diciamo; noi l’abbiamo investigato; egli è così; Ascoltalo, e riconoscilo
