1 Any hope you might have would be futile, the mere sight of him would overwhelm you.	1 « Io non sarò così crudele da eccitarlo. Chi infatti può resistere alla mia faccia?
2 When roused, he grows ferocious, who could ever stand up to him?	2 Chi m'ha dato per il primo chè io gli abbia a rendere? Tutto ciò che è sotto il cielo è mio.
3 Who has ever attacked him with impunity? No one beneath al heaven!	3 Non lo risparmierò nonostante le sue parole potenti e le sue suppliche.
4 Next I wil talk of his limbs and describe his matchless strength-	4 Chi scoprirà il disopra della sua corazza? Chi entrerà nel mezzo della sua gola?
5 who can undo the front of his tunic or pierce the double armour of his breastplate?	5 Chi aprirà le porte della sua faccia? Sulla chiostra dei suoi denti sta il terrore;
6 Who dare open the gates of his mouth? Terror reigns round his teeth!	6 il suo corpo è come di scudi fusi e coperto di squame ben serrate insieme:
7 His back is like rows of shields, sealed with a stone seal,	7 l'una è unita all'altra, e tra esse non passa neppure un fil d'aria:
8 touching each other so close that no breath could pass between,	8 l'una aderisce all'altra, si tengono strette senza mai separarsi.
9 sticking to one another making an impervious whole.	9 Il suo starnuto è splendore di fuoco, i suoi occhi sono come le ciglia dell'aurora.
10 His sneezes radiate light, his eyes are like the eyelashes of the dawn.	10 Dalla sua bocca escono vampe come tizzoni di fuoco acceso.
11 From his mouth come fiery torches, sparks of fire fly out of it.	11 Dalle sue narici esce fumo come da caldaia bollente sul fuoco.
12 His nostrils belch smoke like a cauldron boiling on the fire.	12 Il suo alito fa bruciare i carboni, e una fiamma esce dalla sua bocca.
13 His breath could kindle coals, flame issues from his mouth.	13 Nel suo collo sta la forza e davanti a lui va la miseria.
14 His strength resides in his neck, violence leaps before him as he goes.	14 Le parti sue carnose sono ben compatte, lanciando contro di lui i fulmini non andranno altrove,
15 The strips of his flesh are jointed together, firmly set in and immovable.	15 il suo cuore è duro come la pietra, saldo come l'incudine del fabbro.
16 His heart is as hard as rock unyielding as the lower mil stone.	16 Quando si alza su, gli angeli tremano e sbigottiti si purificano.
17 When he stands up, the waves take fright and the bil ows of the sea retreat.	17 Contro di lui nulla può la spada, la lancia e la corazza;
18 Sword may strike but will not stick in him, no more will spear, javelin or lance.	18 il ferro è per lui come paglia, il bronzo come legno tarlato.
19 Iron means no more to him than straw, nor bronze than rotten wood.	19 L'arciere non lo metterà in fuga; per lui son di stoppa le pietre della fionda,
20 No arrow can make him flee, a sling-stone tickles him like hay.	20 la mazza la crederà un fil di paglia e si burlerà di chi brandisce la lancia.
21 Club seems to him like straw, he laughs at the whirring javelin.	21 Esso avrà sotto di sè i raggi del sole. Si stenderà sopra l'oro come sul fango.
22 He has sharp potsherds underneath, and moves across the slime like a harrow.	22 Farà bollire come una caldaia il profondo del maro, lo renderà come unguenti in ebollizione.
23 He makes the depths seethe like a cauldron, he makes the sea fume like a scent burner.	23 Si lascia dietro una scia luminosa e farà apparire canuto l'abisso.
24 Behind him he leaves a glittering wake -- a white fleece seems to float on the deeps.	24 Non v'è sulla terra potenza chè gli possa esser paragonata, perchè fu fatto per non aver paura di nessuno.
25 He has no equal on earth, being created without fear.	25 Guarda in faccia i più eccelsi, è re su tutti i figli della superbia ».
26 He looks the haughtiest in the eye; of al the lordly beasts he is king.
