1 Any hope you might have would be futile, the mere sight of him would overwhelm you.	1 - Non c'è audace che voglia eccitarlo, perchè chi può resistere alla presenza sua?
2 When roused, he grows ferocious, who could ever stand up to him?	2 Chi ha dato a me prima, onde io a lui restituisca? tutte le cose che stanno sotto al cielo, son mie!
3 Who has ever attacked him with impunity? No one beneath al heaven!	3 Non voglio tacere circa le sue membra, e circa la forza e bellezza di sua armatura.
4 Next I wil talk of his limbs and describe his matchless strength-	4 Chi ha scoperto il disopra del suo manto, e in mezzo alla sua bocca chi è penetrato?
5 who can undo the front of his tunic or pierce the double armour of his breastplate?	5 Le porte del suo muso chi mai le ha aperte? attorno alle sue zanne dimora il terrore.
6 Who dare open the gates of his mouth? Terror reigns round his teeth!	6 Il suo corpo è come di scudi fusi insieme, composto di squame che combaciano:
7 His back is like rows of shields, sealed with a stone seal,	7 l'una con l'altra è congiunta, neppure un soffio passa tra loro;
8 touching each other so close that no breath could pass between,	8 l'una all'altra aderisce, e si tengono in guisa da non separarsi.
9 sticking to one another making an impervious whole.	9 Il suo starnuto è uno splendor di fuoco, e gli occhi suoi come le ciglia dell'aurora;
10 His sneezes radiate light, his eyes are like the eyelashes of the dawn.	10 dalla sua bocca escono faci, come fiaccole di vivo fuoco;
11 From his mouth come fiery torches, sparks of fire fly out of it.	11 dalle sue froge vien fuori fumo, come da caldaio acceso e bollente:
12 His nostrils belch smoke like a cauldron boiling on the fire.	12 il suo soffio accende tizzoni, ed una vampa dalla sua bocca esce.
13 His breath could kindle coals, flame issues from his mouth.	13 Nel suo collo risiede la forza, dinanzi a lui precede la squallidezza.
14 His strength resides in his neck, violence leaps before him as he goes.	14 Le membra delle sue carni sono compatte: lanciandosi contro esso fulmini, non si volgono altrove.
15 The strips of his flesh are jointed together, firmly set in and immovable.	15 Il suo cuore è duro come pietra, e saldo come l'incudine del fucinatore.
16 His heart is as hard as rock unyielding as the lower mil stone.	16 Quand'esso si rizza ne temono gli angeli, e sbigottiti si discolpano.
17 When he stands up, the waves take fright and the bil ows of the sea retreat.	17 La spada che lo assale non resiste, nè la lancia, nè la corazza.
18 Sword may strike but will not stick in him, no more will spear, javelin or lance.	18 Reputa egli come paglia di ferro, come legno putrido il bronzo.
19 Iron means no more to him than straw, nor bronze than rotten wood.	19 Non lo mette in fuga l'arciere, in stoppa si cambiano per lui le pietre di fionda.
20 No arrow can make him flee, a sling-stone tickles him like hay.	20 Come stoppa egli reputa la mazza, della lancia imbrandita esso si burla.
21 Club seems to him like straw, he laughs at the whirring javelin.	21 Sotto di lui vi sono raggi di sole, egli giace sull'orlo come fosse fango.
22 He has sharp potsherds underneath, and moves across the slime like a harrow.	22 Fa bollire come caldaia il profondo mare, lo riduce come a un [vaso d']unguento che spuma;
23 He makes the depths seethe like a cauldron, he makes the sea fume like a scent burner.	23 dietro a lui risplende il sentiero, si crederebbe che l'abisso sia canuto.
24 Behind him he leaves a glittering wake -- a white fleece seems to float on the deeps.	24 Non v'è sulla terra una forza somigliante a lui, che fu fatto per non temer nessuno;
25 He has no equal on earth, being created without fear.	25 ogni essere eccelso egli mira [con disprezzo], è re su tutti i figli di fierezza.»
26 He looks the haughtiest in the eye; of al the lordly beasts he is king.
