A plaintive song of David, which he sang to the LORD concerning Cush, the Benjaminite. | 1 [Lament Of David Which he sang to Yahweh about Cush the Benjaminite] Yahweh my God, I takerefuge in you, save me from al my pursuers and rescue me, |
LORD my God, in you I take refuge; rescue me; save me from all who pursue me, | 2 or he wil savage me like a lion, carry me off with no one to rescue me. |
Lest they maul me like lions, tear me to pieces with none to save. | 3 Yahweh my God, if I have done this: if injustice has stained my hands, |
LORD my God, if I am at fault in this, if there is guilt on my hands, | 4 if I have repaid my al y with treachery or spared one who attacked me unprovoked, |
If I have repaid my friend with evil-- I spared even those who hated me without cause-- | 5 may an enemy hunt me down and catch me, may he trample my life into the ground and crush my vitalparts into the dust.Pause |
Then let my enemy pursue and overtake me, trample my life to the ground, and leave me dishonored in the dust.Selah | 6 Arise, Yahweh, in your anger, rise up against the arrogance of my foes. Awake, my God, you demandjudgement. |
Rise up, LORD, in your anger; rise against the fury of my foes. Wake to judge as you have decreed. | 7 Let the assembly of nations gather round you; return above it on high! |
Have the assembly of the peoples gather about you; sit on your throne high above them, | 8 (Yahweh judges the nations.) Judge me, Yahweh, as my uprightness and my integrity deserve. |
O LORD, judge of the nations. Grant me justice, LORD, for I am blameless, free of any guilt. | 9 Put an end to the malice of the wicked, make the upright stand firm, you who discern hearts and minds,God the upright. |
Bring the malice of the wicked to an end; uphold the innocent, O God of justice, who tries hearts and minds. | 10 God is a shield that protects me, saving the honest of heart. |
A shield before me is God who saves the honest heart. | 11 God is an upright judge, slow to anger, but a God at al times threatening |
God is a just judge, who rebukes in anger every day. | 12 for those who wil not repent. Let the enemy whet his sword, draw his bow and make ready; |
If sinners do not repent, God sharpens his sword, strings and readies the bow, | 13 but he is making ready instruments of death for himself and tipping his arrows with fire; |
Prepares his deadly shafts, makes arrows blazing thunderbolts. | 14 look at him: pregnant with malice, conceiving spite, he gives birth to treachery. |
Sinners conceive iniquity; pregnant with mischief, they give birth to failure. | 15 He digs a trap, scoops it out, but he fal s into the snare he made himself. |
They open a hole and dig it deep, but fall into the pit they have dug. | 16 His spite recoils on his own head, his brutality falls back on his own skul . |
Their mischief comes back upon themselves; their violence falls on their own heads. | 17 I thank Yahweh for his saving justice. I sing to the name of the Most High. |
I praise the justice of the LORD; I celebrate the name of the LORD Most High. |
