A plaintive song of David, which he sang to the LORD concerning Cush, the Benjaminite. | 1 Lamentatio David, quam cantavit Domino propter Chus Beniaminitam. |
LORD my God, in you I take refuge; rescue me; save me from all who pursue me, | 2 Domine Deus meus, in te speravi; salvum me fac ex omnibus persequentibus me et libera me, |
Lest they maul me like lions, tear me to pieces with none to save. |
LORD my God, if I am at fault in this, if there is guilt on my hands, | 4 Domine Deus meus, si feci istud, si est iniquitas in manibus meis, |
If I have repaid my friend with evil-- I spared even those who hated me without cause-- | 5 si reddidi retribuenti mihi mala et exspoliavi inimicum meum dimittens inanem, |
Then let my enemy pursue and overtake me, trample my life to the ground, and leave me dishonored in the dust.Selah | 6 persequatur inimicus animam meam et comprehendat et conculcet in terra vitam meam et gloriam meam in pulverem deducat. |
Rise up, LORD, in your anger; rise against the fury of my foes. Wake to judge as you have decreed. |
Have the assembly of the peoples gather about you; sit on your throne high above them, | 8 Et synagoga populorum circumdabit te, et super hanc in altum regredere: |
O LORD, judge of the nations. Grant me justice, LORD, for I am blameless, free of any guilt. | 9 Dominus iudicat populos. Iudica me, Domine, secundum iustitiam meam et secundum innocentiam meam, quae est in me. |
Bring the malice of the wicked to an end; uphold the innocent, O God of justice, who tries hearts and minds. | 10 Consumatur nequitia peccatorum; et iustum confirma: scrutans corda et renes Deus iustus. |
A shield before me is God who saves the honest heart. | 11 Adiutorium meum apud Deum, qui salvos facit rectos corde. |
God is a just judge, who rebukes in anger every day. | 12 Deus iudex iustus, fortis, irascens per singulos dies. |
If sinners do not repent, God sharpens his sword, strings and readies the bow, | 13 Nonne iterum gladium suum exacuit, arcum suum tetendit et paravit illum? |
Prepares his deadly shafts, makes arrows blazing thunderbolts. | 14 Et paravit sibi vasa mortis, sagittas suas ardentes effecit. |
Sinners conceive iniquity; pregnant with mischief, they give birth to failure. | 15 Ecce parturiit iniustitiam, concepit dolorem et peperit iniquitatem; |
They open a hole and dig it deep, but fall into the pit they have dug. |
Their mischief comes back upon themselves; their violence falls on their own heads. |
I praise the justice of the LORD; I celebrate the name of the LORD Most High. |
