NEW AMERICAN BIBLEKING JAMES BIBLE
Why do the nations protest and the peoples grumble in vain?1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
Kings on earth rise up and princes plot together against the LORD and his anointed:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
"Let us break their shackles and cast off their chains!"3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
The one enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord derides them,4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
Then speaks to them in anger, terrifies them in wrath:5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
"I myself have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain."6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
I will proclaim the decree of the LORD, who said to me, "You are my son; today I am your father.7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Only ask it of me, and I will make your inheritance the nations, your possession the ends of the earth.8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
With an iron rod you shall shepherd them, like a clay pot you will shatter them."9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
And now, kings, give heed; take warning, rulers on earth.10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear; with trembling bow down in homage, Lest God be angry and you perish from the way in a sudden blaze of anger. Happy are all who take refuge in God!11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
