1 ܘܗܘܐ ܦܬܓܡܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܥܠ ܐܪܡܝܐ ܢܒܝܐ ܕܢܬܢܒܐ ܥܠ ܥܡ̈ܡܐ1 The words of Yahweh that were addressed to the prophet Jeremiah against the nations.
2 ܘܥܠ ܡܨܪ̈ܝܐ ܘܥܠ ܚܝܠܗ ܕܦܪܥܘܢ ܚܓܝܪܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܡܨܪܝܢ ܕܫܪܐ ܗܘܐ ܥܠ ܢܗܪܐ ܦܪܬ ܒܟܪܟܡܘܫ ܕܩܛܠ ܢܒܘܟܕܢܨܪ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܒܒܠ ܒܫܢܬܐ ܪܒܝܥܝܬܐ ܕܝܘܝܩܝܡ ܒܪ ܝܘܫܝܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܠܡܐܡܪ2 On Egypt. 4 ܦܓܕܘ ܪ̈ܟܫܐ ܐܪܟܒܘ ܦܪ̈ܫܐ ܣܝܡܘ ܣܢܘܪ̈ܬܐ ܡܪܘܩܘ ܪ̈ܘܡܚܐ ܠܒܫܘ ܫܪ̈ܝܢܐ4 Harness the horses: into the saddle, horsemen! To your ranks! On with your helmets! Sharpen yourspears, put on your breastplates!
5 ܡܛܠ ܕܚܙܝܬ ܕܗܢܘܢ ܡܬܬܒܪܝܢ ܘܗܦܟܝܢ ܠܒܣܬܪܗܘܢ ܘܓܢܒܪ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܐܬܡܚܝܘ ܘܥܪܩܘ ܘܠܐ ܐܬܦܢܝܘ ܡܛܠ ܕܟܪ̈ܝܟܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܢ ܚܕܪ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ5 Why do I see them retreating, panic-stricken? Their heroes, beaten back, are fleeing headlong, with nota look behind. Terror on every side, Yahweh declares!
6 ܠܐ ܢܥܪܘܩ ܐܝܢܐ ܕܩܠܝܠ ܘܠܐ ܢܬܦܠܛ ܐܝܢܐ ܕܓܢܒܪ ܒܓܢܒܪ̈ܐ ܥܠ ܝܕ ܢܗܪܐ ܦܪܬ ܐܬܬܩܠܘ ܘܢܦܠܘ ܟܠܗܘܢ6 No flight for the swift, no escape for the strong! Up in the north on the River Euphrates, they havecol apsed, have fal en.
7 ܡܢܘ ܗܢܐ ܕܐܝܟ ܢܗܪܐ ܣܠܩ ܘܐܝܟ ܢܗܪ̈ܘܬܐ ܡܬܪܓܫܝܢ ܡ̈ܘܗܝ7 Who was it rose like the Nile, his waters foaming like a torrent?
8 ܡܠܟܐ ܕܡܨܪܝܢ ܐܝܟ ܢܗܪܐ ܣܠܩ ܘܐܝܟ ܢܗܪ̈ܘܬܐ ܡܬܪܓܫܝܢ ܡ̈ܘܗܝ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܣܩ ܘܐܟܣܐ ܠܐܪܥܐ ܘܐܘܒܕ ܩܪܝܬܐ ܘܥܡܘܪ̈ܝܗ̇8 Why, Egypt rose like the Nile, his waters foaming like a torrent. 'I shal rise', he said, 'and drown theearth; sweep away town and its inhabitants!
9 ܪܟܒܘ ܪ̈ܟܫܐ ܐܫܬܒܚܘ ܒܡܪ̈ܟܒܬܐ ܢܦܩܘܢ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܟܘܫ̈ܝܐ ܘܦܘ̈ܛܝܐ ܐܚ̈ܝܕܝ ܣܟܪ̈ܐ ܘܠܘ̈ܕܝܐ ܕܝܕܥܝܢ ܠܡܫܕܐ ܒܩܫܬܐ9 Charge, horses! Forward, chariots! Let the warriors advance, men from Cush and Put with shield inhand, men from Lud who bend the bow!'
10 ܘܢܗܘܐ ܝܘܡܐ ܗ̇ܘ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܚܝܠܬܢܐ ܝܘܡܐ ܕܦܘܪܥܢܐ ܕܦܪܥ ܠܒ̈ܥܠܕܒܒܘܗܝ ܘܬܐܟܘܠ ܚܪܒܐ ܘܬܣܒܥ ܘܬܪܘܐ ܡܢ ܕܡܗܘܢ ܡܛܘܠ ܕܚܪܒܐ ܢܥܒܕ ܡܪܝܐ ܚܝܠܬܢܐ ܒܐܪܥܐ ܕܓܪܒܝܐ ܥܠ ܢܗܪܐ ܦܪܬ10 For this is the Day of Lord Yahweh Sabaoth, a day of vengeance when he takes revenge on his foes:the sword wil devour until gorged, until drunk with their blood, for Lord Yahweh Sabaoth is holding a sacrificialfeast in the land of the north, on the River Euphrates.
11 ܣܩܝ ܠܓܠܥܕ ܘܣܒܝ ܐܪ̈ܗܛܢܐ ܒܬܘܠܬܐ ܒܪܬ ܡܨܪܝܢ ܐܝܩܐ ܐܣܓܝܬܝ ܐܣܝܘܬܐ ܘܥܘܕܪܢܐ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܟܝ11 Go up to Gilead and fetch balm, virgin daughter of Egypt! You multiply remedies in vain, nothing cancure you!
12 ܫܡܥܘ ܥܡ̈ܡܐ ܨܥܪܟܝ ܘܐܝܠܠܬܟܝ ܐܬܡܠܝܬ ܐܪܥܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܓܒܪܐ ܒܓܒܪܐ ܐܬܛܪܝ ܘܬܪ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܒܚܪܒܐ ܢܦܠܘ12 The nations have heard of your shame, your wailing fil s the world, for warrior has stumbled againstwarrior, and both have fal en together.
13 ܦܬܓܡܐ ܕܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܐܪܡܝܐ ܢܒܝܐ ܕܢܐܬܐ ܢܒܘܟܕܢܨܪ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܒܒܠ ܘܢܚܪܒܝܗ̇ ܠܐܪܥܐ ܕܡܨܪܝܢ13 The word that came from Yahweh to the prophet Jeremiah when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylonadvanced to attack Egypt.
14 ܚܘܘ ܒܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܐܫܡܥܘ ܒܡܓܕܘܠ ܘܐܫܡܥܘ ܒܡܦܣ ܘܒܬܚܦܝܣ ܐܡܪܘ ܐܬܛܝܒܘ ܘܐܬܬܩܢܘ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܟܠܬ ܚܪܒܐ ܚܕܪ̈ܝܟܝ14 Publish it in Egypt, proclaim it in Migdol, proclaim it in Noph and Tahpanhes! Say, 'Stand your ground,be prepared, for the sword is devouring al round you!'
15 ܡܛܠ ܡܢܐ ܐܣܬܚܦܘ ܥܫܝܢ̈ܝܟܝ ܘܢܦܠܘ ܘܠܐ ܩܡܘ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܣܚܦ ܐܢܘܢ15 Why has Apis fled? Why has your Mighty One not stood firm? Why, Yahweh has overturned him,
16 ܣܘܓܐܗܘܢ ܐܣܬܚܦܘ ܐܦ ܢܦܠ ܓܒܪܐ ܥܠ ܚܒܪܗ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܩܘܡܘ ܢܗܦܘܟ ܠܥܡܢ ܘܠܐܪܥܐ ܕܐܬܝܠܕܢ ܒܗ̇ ܡܢ ܩܕܡ ܚܪܒܐ ܕܡܕܘܝܐ16 he has caused many to fal ! Fal ing over one another, they say, 'Up, and back to our own people, tothe country where we were born, away from the devastating sword!'
17 ܘܩܪܘ ܬܡܢ ܫܡܗ ܕܦܪܥܘܢ ܚܓܝܪܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܡܨܪܝܢ ܕܠܘܚܐ ܘܡܥܒܪ ܙܒܢ̈ܐ17 They have given Pharaoh king of Egypt the nickname, 'Much-noise-but-he-lets-the-chance-slip-by'!
18 ܚܝ ܐܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܨܒܐܘܬ ܫܡܗ ܐܠܐ ܢܦܠ ܦܪܥܘܢ ܐܝܟ ܬܒܪܐ ܕܛܘܪܐ ܘܐܝܟ ܟܪܡܠܐ ܒܓܘ ܝܡܐ18 As I live, the King declares, whose name is Yahweh Sabaoth, he is coming, a very Tabor amongmountains, a Carmel high above the sea!
19 ܡܐ̈ܢܐ ܕܫܒܝܬܐ ܥܒܕܝ ܠܟܝ ܒܬܘܠܬܐ ܒܪܬ ܡܨܪܝܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܦܣ ܬܗܘܐ ܠܚܘܪܒܐ ܘܬܨܕܐ ܡܢ ܒܠܝ ܕܝܬܒ19 Get your bundle ready for exile, fair inhabitant of Egypt! Noph will be reduced to a desert, desolate,uninhabited.
20 ܡܨܪܝܢ ܥܓܠܬܐ ܫܦܝܪܬܐ ܡܨܝܪܬܐ ܚܝܠܐ ܡܢ ܓܪܒܝܐ ܐܬܐ ܥܠܝܗ̇20 Egypt was a splendid heifer, but a gadfly from the north has settled on her.
21 ܐܓܝܪ̈ܝܗ̇ ܒܓܘܗ̇ ܐܝܟ ܥ̈ܓܠܐ ܕܦܛܡܐ ܘܐܦ ܗܢܘܢ ܐܬܦܢܝܘ ܘܥܪܩܘ ܐܟܚܕܐ ܘܠܐ ܩܡܘ ܡܛܘܠ ܕܝܘܡܐ ܕܬܒܪܗܘܢ ܐܬܐ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܙܒܢܐ ܕܦܘܩܕܢܗܘܢ21 The mercenaries she had with her, these too were like fattened calves: but they too have taken totheir heels, have al run away, not held their ground, for their day of disaster has overtaken them, their time forbeing punished.
22 ܩܠܗ ܕܚܝܠܐ ܐܝܟ ܚܘܝܐ ܕܪܫܦ ܡܛܠ ܕܥܠ ܚܝܠܐ ܢܐܙܠܘܢ ܘܒܟܘ̈ܠܒܐ ܢܐܬܘܢ ܥܠܝܗ̇ ܐܝܟ ܦܣ̈ܩܝ ܩܝܣ̈ܐ22 Hear her hissing like a snake as they advance in force to fal on her with their axes, like woodcutters,
23 ܦܣܘܩܘ ܥܒ̈ܝܗ̇ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܣܟܐ ܠܝܬ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܣܓܝܐ̈ܝܢ ܡܢ ܩܡܨܐ ܘܠܝܬ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܢܝܢ23 they wil fell her forest, Yahweh declares, however impenetrable it was for they are more numerousthan locusts, there is no counting them.
24 ܒܗܬܬ ܒܪܬ ܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܐܫܬܠܡܬ ܒܝܕ ܥܡܐ ܕܓܪܒܝܐ24 The daughter of Egypt is put to shame, handed over to a people from the north.
25 ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܚܝܠܬܢܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܗܐ ܐܢܐ ܦܩܕ ܐܢܐ ܥܠ ܐܡܘܢ ܕܡ̈ܝܐ ܘܥܠ ܦܪܥܘܢ ܘܥܠ ܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܥܠ ܐ̈ܠܗܝܗ̇ ܘܥܠ ܚܝܠܗ̇ ܘܥܠ ܡ̈ܠܟܝܗ̇ ܘܥܠ ܦܪܥܘܢ ܘܥܠ ܟܠ ܕܬܟܝܠܝܢ ܥܠܘܗܝ25 Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, has said, 'Look, I shal punish Amon of No, Pharaoh, Egypt, its gods,its kings, Pharaoh and those who put their trust in him.
26 ܘܐܫܠܡ ܐܢܘܢ ܒܐܝܕܐ ܕܒ̈ܥܠܕܒܒܝܗܘܢ ܘܒܐܝܕܐ ܕܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܒܥܝܢ ܢܦܫܗܘܢ ܒܐܝܕܐ ܕܢܒܘܟܕܢܨܪ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܒܒܠ ܘܒܐܝܕܐ ܕܥܒ̈ܕܘܗܝ ܘܒܬܪܟܢ ܬܫܪܐ ܐܝܟ ܝܘܡ̈ܬܐ ܕܡܢ ܩܕܝܡ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ26 I shal hand him over to those who are determined to kil him, to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, tohis generals. But afterwards, Egypt wil be inhabited again as in the past, Yahweh declares.
27 ܘܐܢܬ ܠܐ ܬܕܚܠ ܥܒܕܝ ܝܥܩܘܒ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܠܐ ܬܬܒܪ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܕܗܐ ܦܪܩ ܐܢܐ ܠܟ ܡܢ ܪܘܚܩܐ ܘܠܙܪܥܟ ܡܢ ܐܪܥܐ ܕܫܒܝܬܗܘܢ ܘܢܬܒ ܝܥܩܘܒ ܘܢܫܠܐ ܘܢܫܟܬ ܘܢܬܢܝܚ ܘܠܝܬ ܡ̇ܢ ܕܡܗܪ ܠܗ27 But do not be afraid, my servant Jacob, Israel, do not be alarmed: for look, I shal rescue you fromafar and your descendants from the country where they are captive. Jacob wil return and be at peace, secure,with no one to trouble him.
28 ܘܐܢܬ ܠܐ ܬܕܚܠ ܥܒܕܝ ܝܥܩܘܒ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܥܡܟ ܐܢܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܥܒܕ ܣܘܦܢܐ ܒܟܠܗܘܢ ܥܡ̈ܡܐ ܕܒܕܪܬܟ ܬܡܢ ܘܠܟ ܠܐ ܐܣܝܦ ܘܐܪܕܝܟ ܒܕܝܢܐ ܘܡܙܟܝܘ ܠܐ ܐܙܟܝܟ28 Do not be afraid, my servant Jacob, Yahweh declares, for I am with you: I shal make an end of al thenations where I have driven you, but I shal not make an end of you, I shal discipline you only as you deserve,not leaving you quite unpunished.
