1 Ainda alguns provérbios de Salomão, recolhidos pelos homens de Ezequias, rei de Judá.	1 These also are proverbs of Solomon. The men of Hezekiah, king of Judah, transmitted them.
2 A glória de Deus é ocultar uma coisa; a glória dos reis é esquadrinhá-la.	2 God has glory in what he conceals, kings have glory in what they fathom.
3 A altura dos céus, a profundeza da terra são impenetráveis, bem como o coração dos reis.	3 As the heavens in height, and the earth in depth, the heart of kings is unfathomable.
4 Tira as escórias da prata e terás um vaso para o ourives;	4 Remove the dross from silver, and it comes forth perfectly purified;
5 afasta o mau de presença do rei e seu trono se firmará na justiça.	5 Remove the wicked from the presence of the king, and his throne is made firm through righteousness.
6 Não te faças de pretensioso diante do rei, não te ponhas no lugar dos grandes.	6 Claim no honor in the king's presence, nor occupy the place of great men;
7 É melhor que te digam: Sobe aqui!, do que seres humilhado diante de um personagem. O que teus olhos viram,	7 For it is better that you be told, "Come up closer!" than that you be humbled before the prince.
8 não o descubras com precipitação numa contenda, pois, no final das contas, que farás tu quando o outro te houver confundido?	8 What your eyes have seen bring not forth hastily against an opponent; For what will you do later on when your neighbor puts you to shame?
9 Trata teu negócio com teu próximo de maneira a não revelar o segredo de outro,	9 Discuss your case with your neighbor, but another man's secret do not disclose;
10 para que não sejas repreendido por aquele que o ouviu nem incorras em descrédito irreparável.	10 Lest, hearing it, he reproach you, and your ill repute cease not.
11 Maçãs de ouro sobre prata gravada: tais são as palavras oportunas.	11 Like golden apples in silver settings are words spoken at the proper time.
12 Anel de ouro, jóia de ouro fino: tal é o sábio que admoesta um ouvido atento.	12 Like a golden earring, or a necklace of fine gold, is a wise reprover to an obedient ear.
13 Frescor de neve no tempo da colheita, tal é um mensageiro fiel para quem o envia: ele restaura a alma de seu senhor.	13 Like the coolness of snow in the heat of the harvest is a faithful messenger for the one who sends him. (He refreshes the soul of his master.)
14 Nuvens e vento sem chuva: tal é o homem que se gaba falsamente de dar.	14 Like clouds and wind when no rain follows is the man who boastfully promises what he never gives.
15 Pela paciência o juiz se deixa aplacar: a língua que fala com brandura pode quebrantar ossos.	15 By patience is a ruler persuaded, and a soft tongue will break a bone.
16 Achaste mel? Come o que for suficiente: se comeres demais, tu o vomitarás.	16 If you find honey, eat only what you need, lest you become glutted with it and vomit it up.
17 Põe raramente o pé na casa do vizinho: enfastiado de ti, ele te viria a aborrecer.	17 Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor's house, lest he have more than enough of you, and hate you.
18 Clava, espada, flecha penetrante: tal é o que usa de falso testemunho contra seu próximo.	18 Like a club, or a sword, or a sharp arrow, is the man who bears false witness against his neighbor.
19 Dente arruinado, pé que resvala: tal é a confiança de um pérfido no dia da desventura.	19 Like an infected tooth or an unsteady foot is (dependence on) a faithless man in time of trouble.
20 Tirar a capa num dia de frio, derramar vinagre numa ferida: isso faz aquele que canta canções a um coração atribulado.	20 Like a moth in clothing, or a maggot in wood, sorrow gnaws at the human heart.
21 Tem o teu inimigo fome? Dá-lhe de comer. Tem sede? Dá-lhe de beber:	21 If your enemy be hungry, give him food to eat, if he be thirsty, give him to drink;
22 assim amontoarás brasas ardentes sobre sua cabeça e o Senhor te recompensará.	22 For live coals you will heap on his head, and the LORD will vindicate you.
23 O vento norte traz chuva e a língua detratora anuvia os semblantes.	23 The north wind brings rain, and a backbiting tongue an angry countenance.
24 É melhor habitar um canto do terraço do que viver com uma mulher impertinente.	24 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop than in a roomy house with a quarrelsome woman.
25 Água fresca para uma garganta sedenta: tal é uma boa nova vinda de terra longínqua.	25 Like cool water to one faint from thirst is good news from a far country.
26 Fonte turva e manancial contaminado: tal é o justo que cede diante do ímpio.	26 Like a troubled fountain or a polluted spring is a just man who gives way before the wicked.
27 Comer mel em demasia não é bom: usa de moderação nas palavras elogiosas.	27 To eat too much honey is not good; nor to seek honor after honor.
28 Como uma cidade desmantelada, sem muralhas: tal é o homem que não é senhor de si.	28 Like an open city with no defenses is the man with no check on his feelings.
