Livro dos Provérbios 16

1 Cabe ao homem formular projetos em seu coração, mas do Senhor vem a resposta da língua.	1 It is for man to prepare the soul, and for the Lord to govern the tongue.
2 Todos os caminhos parecem puros ao homem, mas o Senhor é quem pesa os corações.	2 All the ways of a man are open to his eyes; the Lord is the one who weighs spirits.
3 Confia teus negócios ao Senhor e teus planos terão bom êxito.	3 Open your works to the Lord, and your intentions will be set in order.
4 Tudo fez o Senhor para seu fim, até o ímpio para o dia da desgraça.	4 The Lord has wrought all things because of himself. Likewise the impious is for the evil day.
5 Todo coração altivo é abominação ao Senhor: certamente não ficará impune.	5 All the arrogant are an abomination to the Lord. Even if hand will be joined to hand, he is not innocent. The beginning of a good way is to do justice. And this is more acceptable with God than to immolate sacrifices.
6 É pela bondade e pela verdade que se expia a iniqüidade; pelo temor do Senhor evita-se o mal.	6 By mercy and truth, iniquity is redeemed. And by the fear of the Lord, one turns away from evil.
7 Quando agradam ao Senhor os caminhos de um homem, reconcilia com ele seus próprios inimigos.	7 When the ways of man will please the Lord, he will convert even his enemies to peace.
8 Mais vale o pouco com justiça do que grandes lucros com iniqüidade.	8 Better is a little with justice, than many fruits with iniquity.
9 O coração do homem dispõe o seu caminho, mas é o Senhor que dirige seus passos.	9 The heart of man disposes his way. But it is for Lord to direct his steps.
10 As palavras do rei são como oráculos: quando ele julga, sua boca não erra.	10 Foreknowledge is in the lips of the king. His mouth shall not err in judgment.
11 Balança e peso justos são do Senhor, e são obra sua todos os pesos da bolsa.	11 Weights and scales are judgments of the Lord. And all the stones in the bag are his work.
12 Fazer o mal, para um rei, é coisa abominável, porque pela justiça firma-se o trono.	12 Those who act impiously are abominable to the king. For the throne is made firm by justice.
13 Os lábios justos são agradáveis ao rei; ele ama o que fala com retidão.	13 Just lips are the will of kings. He who speaks honestly shall be loved.
14 A indignação do rei é prenúncio de morte, só o sábio sabe aplacá-la.	14 The indignation of a king is a herald of death. And the wise man will appease it.
15 Na serenidade do semblante do rei está a vida: sua clemência é como uma chuva de primavera.	15 In the cheerfulness of the king’s countenance, there is life. And his clemency is like belated rain.
16 Adquirir a sabedoria vale mais que o ouro; antes adquirir a inteligência que a prata.	16 Possess wisdom, for it is better than gold. And acquire prudence, for it is more precious than silver.
17 O caminho dos corretos consiste em evitar o mal; o que vigia seu procedimento conserva sua vida.	17 The path of the just turns away from evils. He who guards his soul preserves his way.
18 A soberba precede à ruína; e o orgulho, à queda.	18 Arrogance precedes destruction. And the spirit is exalted before a fall.
19 Mais vale ser modesto com os humildes que repartir o despojo com os soberbos.	19 It is better to be humbled with the meek, than to divide spoils with the arrogant.
20 Quem ouve a palavra com atenção encontra a felicidade; ditoso quem confia no Senhor.	20 The learned in word shall find good things. And whoever hopes in the Lord is blessed.
21 Inteligente é o que possui o coração sábio; a doçura da linguagem aumenta o saber.	21 Whoever is wise in heart shall be called prudent. And whoever is sweet in eloquence shall attain to what is greater.
22 A inteligência é fonte de vida para quem a possui; o castigo dos insensatos é a loucura.	22 Learning is a fountain of life to one who possesses it. The doctrine of the foolish is senseless.
23 O coração do sábio torna sua boca instruída, e acrescenta-lhes aos lábios o saber.	23 The heart of the wise shall instruct his mouth and add grace to his lips.
24 As palavras agradáveis são como um favo de mel; doçura para a alma e saúde para os ossos.	24 Careful words are a honeycomb: sweet to the soul and healthful to the bones.
25 Há caminhos que parecem retos ao homem e, contudo, o seu termo é a morte.	25 There is a way which seems right to a man, and its end result leads to death.
26 A fome do trabalhador trabalha por ele, porque sua boca o constrange a isso.	26 The soul of the laborer labors for himself, because his mouth has driven him to it.
27 O perverso cava o mal, há em seus lábios como que fogo devorador.	27 The impious man digs up evil, and in his lips is a burning fire.
28 O perverso excita questões, o detrator separa os amigos.	28 A perverse man stirs up lawsuits. And one who is verbose divides leaders.
29 O violento seduz seu próximo e o arrasta pelo mau caminho.	29 A man of iniquity entices his friend, and he leads him along a way that is not good.
30 Quem fecha os olhos e planeja intriga, ao morder os lábios, já praticou o mal.	30 Whoever, with astonished eyes, thinks up depravities, biting his lips, accomplishes evil.
31 Os cabelos brancos são uma coroa de glória a quem se encontra no caminho da justiça.	31 Old age is a crown of dignity, when it is found in the ways of justice.
32 Mais vale a paciência que o heroísmo, mais vale quem domina o coração do que aquele que conquista uma cidade.	32 A patient man is better than a strong one. And whoever rules his soul is better than one who assaults cities.
33 As sortes lançam-se nas dobras do manto, mas do Senhor depende toda a decisão.	33 Lots are cast into the lap, but they are tempered by the Lord.
