Livro dos Provérbios 16

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Cabe ao homem formular projetos em seu coração, mas do Senhor vem a resposta da língua.	1 A human heart makes the plans, Yahweh gives the answer.
2 Todos os caminhos parecem puros ao homem, mas o Senhor é quem pesa os corações.	2 A person's own acts seem right to the doer, but Yahweh is the weigher of souls.
3 Confia teus negócios ao Senhor e teus planos terão bom êxito.	3 Commend what you do to Yahweh, and what you plan wil be achieved.
4 Tudo fez o Senhor para seu fim, até o ímpio para o dia da desgraça.	4 Yahweh made everything for its own purpose, yes, even the wicked for the day of disaster.
5 Todo coração altivo é abominação ao Senhor: certamente não ficará impune.	5 Every arrogant heart is abhorrent to Yahweh: be sure this wil not go unpunished.
6 É pela bondade e pela verdade que se expia a iniqüidade; pelo temor do Senhor evita-se o mal.	6 By faithful love and constancy sin is expiated; by fear of Yahweh evil is avoided.
7 Quando agradam ao Senhor os caminhos de um homem, reconcilia com ele seus próprios inimigos.	7 Let Yahweh be pleased with someone's way of life and he makes that person's very enemies intofriends.
8 Mais vale o pouco com justiça do que grandes lucros com iniqüidade.	8 Better have little and with it uprightness than great revenues with injustice.
9 O coração do homem dispõe o seu caminho, mas é o Senhor que dirige seus passos.	9 The human heart may plan a course, but it is Yahweh who makes the steps secure.
10 As palavras do rei são como oráculos: quando ele julga, sua boca não erra.	10 The lips of the king utter prophecies, he keeps faith when he speaks in judgement.
11 Balança e peso justos são do Senhor, e são obra sua todos os pesos da bolsa.	11 The balances and scales belong to Yahweh, al the weights in the bag are of his making.
12 Fazer o mal, para um rei, é coisa abominável, porque pela justiça firma-se o trono.	12 Evil-doing is abhorrent to kings, since uprightness is a throne's foundation.
13 Os lábios justos são agradáveis ao rei; ele ama o que fala com retidão.	13 Upright lips are welcome to a king, he loves someone of honest words.
14 A indignação do rei é prenúncio de morte, só o sábio sabe aplacá-la.	14 The king's wrath is the herald of death, but the wise will appease it.
15 Na serenidade do semblante do rei está a vida: sua clemência é como uma chuva de primavera.	15 When the king's face brightens it spel s life, his favour is like the rain in spring.
16 Adquirir a sabedoria vale mais que o ouro; antes adquirir a inteligência que a prata.	16 Better gain wisdom than gold, choose understanding in preference to silver.
17 O caminho dos corretos consiste em evitar o mal; o que vigia seu procedimento conserva sua vida.	17 To turn from evil is the way of the honest; whoever watches the path keeps life safe.
18 A soberba precede à ruína; e o orgulho, à queda.	18 Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fal .
19 Mais vale ser modesto com os humildes que repartir o despojo com os soberbos.	19 Better be humble with the poor than share the booty with the proud.
20 Quem ouve a palavra com atenção encontra a felicidade; ditoso quem confia no Senhor.	20 Whoever listens closely to the word finds happiness; whoever trusts Yahweh is blessed.
21 Inteligente é o que possui o coração sábio; a doçura da linguagem aumenta o saber.	21 The wise of heart is acclaimed as intel igent, sweetness of speech increases knowledge.
22 A inteligência é fonte de vida para quem a possui; o castigo dos insensatos é a loucura.	22 Shrewdness is a fountain of life for its possessor, the fol y of fools is their own punishment.
23 O coração do sábio torna sua boca instruída, e acrescenta-lhes aos lábios o saber.	23 The heart of the wise lends shrewdness to speech and makes words more persuasive.
24 As palavras agradáveis são como um favo de mel; doçura para a alma e saúde para os ossos.	24 Kindly words are a honeycomb, sweet to the taste, wholesome to the body.
25 Há caminhos que parecem retos ao homem e, contudo, o seu termo é a morte.	25 There is a way that some think straight, but it leads in the end to death.
26 A fome do trabalhador trabalha por ele, porque sua boca o constrange a isso.	26 A worker's appetite works on his behalf, for his hunger urges him on.
27 O perverso cava o mal, há em seus lábios como que fogo devorador.	27 A worthless person concocts evil, such a one's talk is like a scorching fire.
28 O perverso excita questões, o detrator separa os amigos.	28 A troublemaker sows strife, a slanderer divides friend from friend.
29 O violento seduz seu próximo e o arrasta pelo mau caminho.	29 The violent lures his neighbour astray and leads him by a way that is not good.
30 Quem fecha os olhos e planeja intriga, ao morder os lábios, já praticou o mal.	30 Whoever narrows the eyes to think up tricks and purses the lips has already done wrong.
31 Os cabelos brancos são uma coroa de glória a quem se encontra no caminho da justiça.	31 White hairs are a crown of honour, they are found in the ways of uprightness.
32 Mais vale a paciência que o heroísmo, mais vale quem domina o coração do que aquele que conquista uma cidade.	32 Better an equable person than a hero, someone with self-mastery than one who takes a city.
33 As sortes lançam-se nas dobras do manto, mas do Senhor depende toda a decisão.	33 In the fold of the garment the lot is thrown, but from Yahweh comes the decision.
