NOVA VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 In mense octavo, in anno se cundo Darii, factum est verbum Domini adZachariam filium Barachiae filii Addo prophetam dicens:	1 In the second year of Darius, in the eighth month, the word of Yahweh was addressed to the prophetZechariah (son of Berechiah), son of Iddo, as fol ows,
2 “ Iratus est Dominussuper patres vestros iracundia.	2 'Yahweh was deeply angry with your ancestors.
3 Et dices ad eos: Haec dicit Dominusexercituum: Convertimini ad me, ait Dominus exercituum; et convertar ad vos,dicit Dominus exercituum.	3 So say this to them, "Yahweh Sabaoth says this: Return to me -- Yahweh Sabaoth declares -- and I willreturn to you, says Yahweh Sabaoth.
4 Ne sitis sicut patres vestri, ad quos clamabantprophetae priores dicentes: Haec dicit Dominus exercituum: Convertimini de viisvestris malis et de cogitationibus vestris malis; et non audierunt nequeattenderunt ad me, dicit Dominus.	4 Do not be like your ancestors when the prophets in the past cried to them: Yahweh Sabaoth says this:Turn back from your evil ways and evil deeds -- they would not listen or pay attention to me -- Yahweh declares.
5 Patres vestri ubi sunt? Et prophetae numquidin sempiternum vivent?	5 Where are your ancestors now? And the prophets, do they live for ever?
6 Verumtamen verba mea et praecepta mea, quae mandaviservis meis prophetis, numquid non attigerunt patres vestros? Et conversi suntet dixerunt: “Sicut cogitavit Dominus exercituum facere nobis, secundum viasnostras et secundum adinventiones nostras fecit nobis” ”.	6 But did not my words and statutes, with which I had charged my servants the prophets, overtake yourancestors just the same?" ' So they repented and said, 'Yahweh Sabaoth has treated us as he resolved to do,and as our ways and deeds deserved.'
7 In die vicesima et quarta undecimi mensis, qui est mensis Sabath, in annosecundo Darii, factum est verbum Domini ad Zachariam filium Barachiae filii Addoprophetam dicens:	7 On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month (the month of Shebat), in the second year of Darius, theword of Yahweh was addressed to the prophet Zechariah (son of Berechiah), son of Iddo, as fol ows,
8 “ Vidi per noctem, et ecce vir sedens super equum rufum etipse stabat inter myrteta, quae erant in profundo; et post eum equi rufi, fulviet albi.	8 'I had a vision during the night. There was a man riding a red horse standing among the deep-rootedmyrtles; behind him were other horses-red, chestnut and white.
9 Et dixi: “Quid sunt isti, domine mi?”. Et dixit ad me angelus,qui loquebatur in me: “Ego ostendam tibi quid sint isti”.	9 I said, "What are these, my lord?" And the angel who was talking to me said, "I will show you what they are."
10 Et responditvir, qui stabat inter myrteta, et dixit: “Isti sunt quos misit Dominus, utperambularent terram”.	10 The man standing among the myrtles then replied, "Those are they whom Yahweh has sent to patrolthe world."
11 Et responderunt angelo Domini, qui stabat intermyrteta, et dixerunt: “Perambulavimus terram, et ecce omnis terra habitatur etquiescit”.	11 They reported to the angel of Yahweh as he stood among the myrtles, "We have been patrol ing theworld, and indeed the whole world is stil and at peace."
12 Et respondit angelus Domini et dixit: “Domine exercituum, usquequo tu nonmisereberis Ierusalem et urbium Iudae, quibus iratus es? Iste septuagesimusannus est!”.	12 The angel of Yahweh then spoke and said, "Yahweh Sabaoth, how long wil you wait before taking pityon Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, on which you have inflicted your anger for the past seventy years?"
13 Et respondit Dominus angelo, qui loquebatur in me verba bona,verba consolatoria.	13 Yahweh then replied with kind and comforting words to the angel who was talking to me.
14 Et dixit ad me angelus, qui loquebatur in me: “Clamadicens: Haec dixit Dominus exercituum: Zelatus sum Ierusalem et Sion zelo magno,	14 The angel who was talking to me then said to me, "Make this proclamation: Yahweh Sabaoth saysthis: I am burning with jealousy for Jerusalem and Zion
15 sed ira magna ego irascor super gentes opulentas, quia ego iratus sum parum,ipsi vero adiuverunt in malum.	15 but am deeply angry with the nations now at ease; before, I was only mildly angry, but they contributedto the disaster.
16 Propterea haec dicit Dominus: Revertar adIerusalem in misericordiis. Domus mea aedificabitur in ea, ait Dominusexercituum, et perpendiculum extendetur super Ierusalem.	16 So now Yahweh says this: In compassion I have returned to Jerusalem; my Temple will be rebuiltthere -- Yahweh Sabaoth declares -- and the measuring line wil be stretched over Jerusalem.
17 Adhuc clama dicens:Haec dicit Dominus exercituum: Adhuc affluent civitates meae bonis, etconsolabitur adhuc Dominus Sion et eliget adhuc Ierusalem”.	17 Make this proclamation too: Yahweh Sabaoth says this: My cities are once more to be veryprosperous. Yahweh will comfort Zion once again, and again make Jerusalem his choice." '
