1 Annunzio grave rivelato ad Habacuc profeta.	1 The burden that Habacuc the prophet saw.
2 Fino a quando, o Signore, griderò io, e tu non mi esaudirai? I getterò alte strida per le violenze, ch'io patisco, e tu non darai salute?	2 How long, O Lord, shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear? shall I cry out to thee suffering violence, and thou wilt not save?
3 Perchè mi fai tu vedere dinanzi a me iniquità, e dolori, rapine, e ingiustizie? E i contenziosi, e rissosi prevalgono.	3 Why hast thou shewn me iniquity and grievance, to see rapine and injustice before me? and there is a judgment, but opposition is more powerful.
4 Per questo è straziata la legge, e non arriva al suo fine il giudizio; perocché l'empio ne può più, che il giusto; per questo i giudizj sono corrotti.	4 Therefore the law is torn in pieces, and judgment cometh not to the end: because the wicked prevaileth against the just, therefore wrong judgment goeth forth.
5 Gettate gli occhi sopra le genti, e osservate: resterete ammirati, e stupefatti; perocché è avvenuta una cosa a' vostri giorni, la quale da nissuno sarà creduta, quando si annunzierà;	5 Behold ye among the nations, and see: wonder, and be astonished: for a work is done in your days, which no man will believe when it shall be told.
6 Perocché ecco che io farò muoversi i Caldei, gente cruda, e agile, che scorre tutta quanta la terra, per occupare le case altrui.	6 For behold, I will raise up the Chaldeans, a bitter and swift nation, marching upon the breadth of the earth, to possess the dwelling places that are not their own.
7 Ella è orribile, e tremenda: ella da se stessa semenziera, e gastigherà.	7 They are dreadful, and terrible: from themselves shall their judgment, and their burden proceed.
8 I suoi cavalli son più leggeri dei pardi, e più veloci, che i lupi sul far della notte; e i suoi cavalli si spanderanno per ogni parte; i suoi cavalieri verranno da lungi, voleranno com' aquila a far suo pasto.	8 Their horses are lighter than leopards, and swifter than evening wolves; and their horsemen shall be spread abroad: for their horsemen shall come from afar, they shall fly as an eagle that maketh haste to eat.
9 Verranno tutti al bottino: la loro presenza è un vento, che arde: e metteranno insieme gli schiavi come l'arena.	9 They shall all come to the prey, their face is like a burning wind: and they shall gather together captives as the sand.
10 E quegli trionferà dei regi, e si farà beffe de' potentati: egli si burlerà di tutte le fortezze, e alzerà la trincierà, e le espugnerà.	10 And their prince shall triumph over kings, and princes shall be his laughingstock: and he shall laugh at every strong hold, and shall cast up a mount, and shall take it.
11 Allora si cangerà il suo spirito, e svanirà, e caderà: tale è la possanza di quel suo Dio.	11 Then shall his spirit be changed, and he shall pass, and fall: this is his strength of his god.
12 Ma non se' tu fin da principio, o Signore Dio mio, mio Santo, e noi non morremo? Signore tu hai destinato costui a far vendetta, e per correzione nostra lo hai fondato in possanza.	12 Wast thou not from the beginning, O Lord my God, my holy one, and we shall not die? Lord, thou hast appointed him for judgment: and made him strong for correction.
13 Gli occhi tuoi son mondi, né tu puoi vedere il male, e tu non potrai mirare in faccia l'iniquità. Perchè volgi tu lo sguardo a que', che fanno del male, e taci allorché l'empio divorasi chi è più giusto di lui?	13 Thy eyes are too pure to behold evil, and thou canst not look on iniquity. Why lookest thou upon them that do unjust things, and holdest thy peace when the wicked devoureth the man that is more just than himself?
14 E tu fai degli uomini, come de' pesci del mare, e come degli insetti, che non hanno re.	14 And thou wilt make men as the fishes of the sea, and as the creeping things that have no ruler.
15 Quegli ogni cosa ha tratto fuora coll'amo, tira colla sua sagena, e ammassa colla sua rete. Di questo egli si goderà, ed esulterà:	15 He lifted up all them with his hook, he drew them in his drag, and gathered them into his net: for this he will be glad and rejoice.
16 Per questo offerirà vittime alla sua sagena, e sagrifizj alla sua rete, perchè per mezzo di queste si è accresciuta la sua porzione, e il suo cibo gradito.	16 Therefore will he offer victims to his drag, and he will sacrifice to his net: because through them his portion is made fat, and his meat dainty.
17 Per questo stende la sua sagena, e non si resta giammai dal fare strage de' popoli.	17 For this cause therefore he spreadeth his net, and will not spare continually to slay the nations.
