Apocalisse 18

BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Dopo ciò, vidi un altro angelo discendere dal cielo con grande potere e la terra fu illuminata dal suo splendore.	1 After this, I saw another angel come down from heaven, with great authority given to him; the earthshone with his glory.
2 Gridò a gran voce: "È caduta, è caduta Babilonia la grande ed è diventata covo di demòni, carcere di ogni spirito immondo, carcere d'ogni uccello impuro e aborrito e carcere di ogni bestia immonda e aborrita.	2 At the top of his voice he shouted, 'Babylon has fal en, Babylon the Great has fallen, and has becomethe haunt of devils and a lodging for every foul spirit and dirty, loathsome bird.
3 Perché tutte le nazioni hanno bevuto del vino della sua sfrenata prostituzione, i re della terra si sono prostituiti con essa e i mercanti della terra si sono arricchiti del suo lusso sfrenato".	3 Al the nations have drunk deep of the wine of her prostitution; every king on the earth has prostitutedhimself with her, and every merchant grown rich through her debauchery.'
4 Poi udii un'altra voce dal cielo: "Uscite, popolo mio, da Babilonia per non associarvi ai suoi peccati e non ricevere parte dei suoi flagelli.	4 Another voice spoke from heaven; I heard it say, 'Come out, my people, away from her, so that you donot share in her crimes and have the same plagues to bear.
5 Perché i suoi peccati si sono accumulati fino al cielo e Dio si è ricordato delle sue iniquità.	5 Her sins have reached up to the sky, and God has her crimes in mind: treat her as she has treatedothers.
6 Pagatela con la sua stessa moneta, retribuitele il doppio dei suoi misfatti. Versatele doppia misura nella coppa con cui mesceva.	6 She must be paid double the amount she exacted. She is to have a doubly strong cup of her ownmixture.
7 Tutto ciò che ha speso per la sua gloria e il suo lusso, restituiteglielo in tanto tormento e afflizione. Poiché diceva in cuor suo: Io seggo regina, vedova non sono e lutto non vedrò;	7 Every one of her pomps and orgies is to be matched by a torture or an agony. I am enthroned asqueen, she thinks; I am no widow and wil never know bereavement.
8 per questo, in un solo giorno, verranno su di lei questi flagelli: morte, lutto e fame; sarà bruciata dal fuoco, poiché potente Signore è Dio che l'ha condannata".	8 For that, in one day, the plagues wil fal on her: disease and mourning and famine. She wil be burnedto the ground. The Lord God who has condemned her is mighty.'
9 I re della terra che si sono prostituiti e han vissuto nel fasto con essa piangeranno e si lamenteranno a causa di lei, quando vedranno il fumo del suo incendio,	9 'There will be mourning and weeping for her by the kings of the earth who have prostituted themselveswith her and held orgies with her. They see the smoke as she burns,
10 tenendosi a distanza per paura dei suoi tormenti e diranno: "Guai, guai, immensa città, Babilonia, possente città; in un'ora sola è giunta la tua condanna!".	10 while they keep at a safe distance through fear of her anguish. They wil say: Mourn, mourn for thisgreat city, Babylon, so powerful a city, in one short hour your doom has come upon you.
11 Anche i mercanti della terra piangono e gemono su di lei, perché nessuno compera più le loro merci:	11 'There wil be weeping and distress over her among al the traders of the earth when no one is left tobuy their cargoes of goods;
12 carichi d'oro, d'argento e di pietre preziose, di perle, di lino, di porpora, di seta e di scarlatto; legni profumati di ogni specie, oggetti d'avorio, di legno, di bronzo, di ferro, di marmo;	12 their stocks of gold and silver, jewels and pearls, linen and purple and silks and scarlet; al thesandalwood, every piece in ivory or fine wood, in bronze or iron or marble;
13 cinnamòmo, amòmo, profumi, unguento, incenso, vino, olio, fior di farina, frumento, bestiame, greggi, cavalli, cocchi, schiavi e vite umane.	13 the cinnamon and spices, the myrrh and ointment and incense; wine, oil, flour and corn; their stocksof cattle, sheep, horses and chariots, their slaves and their human cargo.
14 "I frutti che ti piacevano tanto, tutto quel lusso e quello splendore sono perduti per te, mai più potranno trovarli".	14 'Al the fruits you had set your hearts on have failed you; gone for ever, never to return again, is yourlife of magnificence and ease.
15 I mercanti divenuti ricchi per essa, si terranno a distanza per timore dei suoi tormenti; piangendo e gemendo, diranno:	15 'The traders who had made a fortune out of her wil be standing at a safe distance through fear of heranguish, mourning and weeping.
16 "Guai, guai, immensa città, tutta ammantata di bisso, di porpora e di scarlatto, adorna d'oro, di pietre preziose e di perle!	16 They wil be saying: Mourn, mourn for this great city; for al the linen and purple and scarlet that youwore, for al your finery of gold and jewels and pearls;
17 In un'ora sola è andata dispersa sì grande ricchezza!". Tutti i comandanti di navi e l'intera ciurma, i naviganti e quanti commerciano per mare se ne stanno a distanza,	17 your huge riches are al destroyed within a single hour.' Al the captains and seafaring men, sailorsand all those who make a living from the sea kept a safe distance,
18 e gridano guardando il fumo del suo incendio: "Quale città fu mai somigliante all'immensa città?".	18 watching the smoke as she burned, and crying out, 'Has there ever been a city as great as this!'
19 Gettandosi sul capo la polvere gridano, piangono e gemono: "Guai, guai, immensa città, del cui lusso arricchirono quanti avevano navi sul mare! In un'ora sola fu ridotta a un deserto!	19 They threw dust on their heads and said, with tears and groans: 'Mourn, mourn for this great citywhose lavish living has made a fortune for every owner of a sea-going ship, ruined within a single hour.
20 Esulta, o cielo, su di essa, e voi, santi, apostoli, profeti, perché condannando Babilonia Dio vi ha reso giustizia!".	20 'Now heaven, celebrate her downfall, and all you saints, apostles and prophets: God has givenjudgement for you against her.'
21 Un angelo possente prese allora una pietra grande come una mola, e la gettò nel mare esclamando: "Con la stessa violenza sarà precipitata Babilonia, la grande città e più non riapparirà.	21 Then a powerful angel picked up a boulder like a great mil stone, and as he hurled it into the sea, hesaid, 'That is how the great city of Babylon is going to be hurled down, never to be seen again.
22 La voce degli arpisti e dei musici, dei flautisti e dei suonatori di tromba, non si udrà più in te; ed ogni artigiano di qualsiasi mestiere non si troverà più in te; e la voce della mola non si udrà più in te;	22 Never again in you will be heard the song of harpists and minstrels, the music of flute and trumpet;never again wil craftsmen of every skill be found in you or the sound of the handmil be heard;
23 e la luce della lampada non brillerà più in te; e voce di sposo e di sposa non si udrà più in te. Perché i tuoi mercanti erano i grandi della terra; perché tutte le nazioni dalle tue malìe furon sedotte.	23 never again wil shine the light of the lamp in you, never again wil be heard in you the voices ofbridegroom and bride. Your traders were the princes of the earth, al the nations were led astray by your sorcery.
24 In essa fu trovato il sangue dei profeti e dei santi e di tutti coloro che furono uccisi sulla terra".	24 In her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and all the blood that was ever shed on earth.'
