1 Egli allora chiamò a sé i Dodici e diede loro potere e autorità su tutti i demòni e di curare le malattie.	1 Then calling together the twelve Apostles, he gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases.
2 E li mandò ad annunziare il regno di Dio e a guarire gli infermi.	2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the infirm.
3 Disse loro: "Non prendete nulla per il viaggio, né bastone, né bisaccia, né pane, né denaro, né due tuniche per ciascuno.	3 And he said to them: “You should take nothing for the journey, neither staff, nor traveling bag, nor bread, nor money; and you should not have two tunics.
4 In qualunque casa entriate, là rimanete e di là poi riprendete il cammino.	4 And into whatever house you shall enter, lodge there, and do not move away from there.
5 Quanto a coloro che non vi accolgono, nell'uscire dalla loro città, scuotete la polvere dai vostri piedi, a testimonianza contro di essi".	5 And whoever will not have received you, upon departing from that city, shake off even the dust on your feet, as a testimony against them.”
6 Allora essi partirono e giravano di villaggio in villaggio, annunziando dovunque la buona novella e operando guarigioni.	6 And going forth, they traveled around, through the towns, evangelizing and curing everywhere.
7 Intanto il tetrarca Erode sentì parlare di tutti questi avvenimenti e non sapeva che cosa pensare, perché alcuni dicevano: "Giovanni è risuscitato dai morti",	7 Now Herod the tetrarch heard about all the things that were being done by him, but he doubted, because it was said
8 altri: "È apparso Elia", e altri ancora: "È risorto uno degli antichi profeti".	8 by some, “For John has risen from the dead,” yet truly, by others, “For Elijah has appeared,” and by still others, “For one of the prophets from of old has risen again.”
9 Ma Erode diceva: "Giovanni l'ho fatto decapitare io; chi è dunque costui, del quale sento dire tali cose?". E cercava di vederlo.	9 And Herod said: “I beheaded John. So then, who is this, about whom I hear such things?” And he sought to see him.
10 Al loro ritorno, gli apostoli raccontarono a Gesù tutto quello che avevano fatto. Allora li prese con sé e si ritirò verso una città chiamata Betsàida.	10 And when the Apostles returned, they explained to him all the things that they had done. And taking them with him, he withdrew to a deserted place apart, which belongs to Bethsaida.
11 Ma le folle lo seppero e lo seguirono. Egli le accolse e prese a parlar loro del regno di Dio e a guarire quanti avevan bisogno di cure.	11 But when the crowd had realized this, they followed him. And he received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God. And those who were in need of cures, he healed.
12 Il giorno cominciava a declinare e i Dodici gli si avvicinarono dicendo: "Congeda la folla, perché vada nei villaggi e nelle campagne dintorno per alloggiare e trovar cibo, poiché qui siamo in una zona deserta".	12 Then the day began to decline. And drawing near, the twelve said to him: “Dismiss the crowds, so that, by going into the surrounding towns and villages, they may separate and find food. For we are here in a deserted place.”
13 Gesù disse loro: "Dategli voi stessi da mangiare". Ma essi risposero: "Non abbiamo che cinque pani e due pesci, a meno che non andiamo noi a comprare viveri per tutta questa gente".	13 But he said to them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said, “There is with us no more than five loaves and two fish, unless perhaps we are to go and buy food for this entire multitude.”
14 C'erano infatti circa cinquemila uomini. Egli disse ai discepoli: "Fateli sedere per gruppi di cinquanta".	14 Now there were about five thousand men. So he said to his disciples, “Have them recline to eat in groups of fifty.”
15 Così fecero e li invitarono a sedersi tutti quanti.	15 And they did so. And they caused them all to recline to eat.
16 Allora egli prese i cinque pani e i due pesci e, levati gli occhi al cielo, li benedisse, li spezzò e li diede ai discepoli perché lo distribuissero alla folla.	16 Then, taking the five loaves and the two fish, he gazed up to heaven, and he blessed and broke and distributed them to his disciples, in order to set them before the crowd.
17 Tutti mangiarono e si saziarono e delle parti loro avanzate furono portate via dodici ceste.	17 And they all ate and were satisfied. And twelve baskets of fragments were taken up, which were left over from them.
18 Un giorno, mentre Gesù si trovava in un luogo appartato a pregare e i discepoli erano con lui, pose loro questa domanda: "Chi sono io secondo la gente?".	18 And it happened that, when he was praying alone, his disciples also were with him, and he questioned them, saying: “Who do the multitudes say that I am?”
19 Essi risposero: "Per alcuni Giovanni il Battista, per altri Elia, per altri uno degli antichi profeti che è risorto".	19 But they answered by saying: “John the Baptist. But some say Elijah. Yet truly, others say that one of the prophets from before has risen again.”
20 Allora domandò: "Ma voi chi dite che io sia?". Pietro, prendendo la parola, rispose: "Il Cristo di Dio".	20 Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” In response, Simon Peter said, “The Christ of God.”
21 Egli allora ordinò loro severamente di non riferirlo a nessuno.	21 But speaking sharply to them, he instructed them not to tell this to anyone,
22 "Il Figlio dell'uomo, disse, deve soffrire molto, essere riprovato dagli anziani, dai sommi sacerdoti e dagli scribi, esser messo a morte e risorgere il terzo giorno".	22 saying, “For the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and the leaders of the priests and the scribes, and be killed, and on the third day rise again.”
23 Poi, a tutti, diceva: "Se qualcuno vuol venire dietro a me, rinneghi se stesso, prenda la sua croce ogni giorno e mi segua.	23 Then he said to everyone: “If anyone is willing to come after me: let him deny himself, and take up his cross every day, and follow me.
24 Chi vorrà salvare la propria vita, la perderà, ma chi perderà la propria vita per me, la salverà.	24 For whoever will have saved his life, will lose it. Yet whoever will have lost his life for my sake, will save it.
25 Che giova all'uomo guadagnare il mondo intero, se poi si perde o rovina se stesso?	25 For how does it benefit a man, if he were to gain the whole world, yet lose himself, or cause himself harm?
26 Chi si vergognerà di me e delle mie parole, di lui si vergognerà il Figlio dell'uomo, quando verrà nella gloria sua e del Padre e degli angeli santi.	26 For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words: of him the Son of man will be ashamed, when he will have arrived in his majesty and that of his Father and of the holy Angels.
27 In verità vi dico: vi sono alcuni qui presenti, che non morranno prima di aver visto il regno di Dio".	27 And yet, I tell you a truth: There are some standing here who shall not taste death, until they see the kingdom of God.”
28 Circa otto giorni dopo questi discorsi, prese con sé Pietro, Giovanni e Giacomo e salì sul monte a pregare.	28 And it happened that, about eight days after these words, he took Peter and James and John, and he ascended onto a mountain, so that he might pray.
29 E, mentre pregava, il suo volto cambiò d'aspetto e la sua veste divenne candida e sfolgorante.	29 And while he was praying, the appearance of his countenance was altered, and his vestment became white and shining.
30 Ed ecco due uomini parlavano con lui: erano Mosè ed Elia,	30 And behold, two men were talking with him. And these were Moses and Elijah, appearing in majesty.
31 apparsi nella loro gloria, e parlavano della sua dipartita che avrebbe portato a compimento a Gerusalemme.	31 And they spoke of his departure, which he would accomplish at Jerusalem.
32 Pietro e i suoi compagni erano oppressi dal sonno; tuttavia restarono svegli e videro la sua gloria e i due uomini che stavano con lui.	32 Yet truly, Peter and those who were with him were weighed down by sleep. And becoming alert, they saw his majesty and the two men who were standing with him.
33 Mentre questi si separavano da lui, Pietro disse a Gesù: "Maestro, è bello per noi stare qui. Facciamo tre tende, una per te, una per Mosè e una per Elia". Egli non sapeva quel che diceva.	33 And it happened that, as these were departing from him, Peter said to Jesus: “Teacher, it is good for us to be here. And so, let us make three tabernacles: one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” For he did not know what he was saying.
34 Mentre parlava così, venne una nube e li avvolse; all'entrare in quella nube, ebbero paura.	34 Then, as he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them. And as these were entering into the cloud, they were afraid.
35 E dalla nube uscì una voce, che diceva: "Questi è il Figlio mio, l'eletto; ascoltatelo".	35 And a voice came from the cloud, saying: “This is my beloved son. Listen to him.”
36 Appena la voce cessò, Gesù restò solo. Essi tacquero e in quei giorni non riferirono a nessuno ciò che avevano visto.	36 And while the voice was being uttered, Jesus was found to be alone. And they were silent and told no one, in those days, any of these things, which they had seen.
37 Il giorno seguente, quando furon discesi dal monte, una gran folla gli venne incontro.	37 But it happened on the following day that, as they were descending from the mountain, a great crowd met him.
38 A un tratto dalla folla un uomo si mise a gridare: "Maestro, ti prego di volgere lo sguardo a mio figlio, perché è l'unico che ho.	38 And behold, a man from the crowd cried out, saying, “Teacher, I beg you, look kindly on my son, for he is my only son.
39 Ecco, uno spirito lo afferra e subito egli grida, lo scuote ed egli da' schiuma e solo a fatica se ne allontana lasciandolo sfinito.	39 And behold, a spirit takes hold of him, and he suddenly cries out, and it throws him down and convulses him, so that he foams. And though it tears him apart, it leaves him only with difficulty.
40 Ho pregato i tuoi discepoli di scacciarlo, ma non ci sono riusciti".	40 And I asked your disciples to cast him out, and they were unable.”
41 Gesù rispose: "O generazione incredula e perversa, fino a quando sarò con voi e vi sopporterò? Conducimi qui tuo figlio".	41 And in response, Jesus said: “O unfaithful and perverse generation! How long will I be with you and endure you? Bring your son here.”
42 Mentre questi si avvicinava, il demonio lo gettò per terra agitandolo con convulsioni. Gesù minacciò lo spirito immondo, risanò il fanciullo e lo consegnò a suo padre.	42 And as he was approaching him, the demon threw him down and convulsed him.
43 E tutti furono stupiti per la grandezza di Dio. Mentre tutti erano sbalorditi per tutte le cose che faceva, disse ai suoi discepoli:	43 And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and he healed the boy, and he restored him to his father.
44 "Mettetevi bene in mente queste parole: Il Figlio dell'uomo sta per esser consegnato in mano degli uomini".	44 And all were astonished at the greatness of God. And as everyone was wondering over all that he was doing, he said to his disciples: “You must set these words in your hearts. For it shall be that the Son of man will be delivered into the hands of men.”
45 Ma essi non comprendevano questa frase; per loro restava così misteriosa che non ne comprendevano il senso e avevano paura a rivolgergli domande su tale argomento.	45 But they did not understood this word, and it was concealed from them, so that they did not perceive it. And they were afraid to question him about this word.
46 Frattanto sorse una discussione tra loro, chi di essi fosse il più grande.	46 Now an idea entered into them, as to which of them was greater.
47 Allora Gesù, conoscendo il pensiero del loro cuore, prese un fanciullo, se lo mise vicino e disse:	47 But Jesus, perceiving the thoughts of their hearts, took a child and stood him beside him.
48 "Chi accoglie questo fanciullo nel mio nome, accoglie me; e chi accoglie me, accoglie colui che mi ha mandato. Poiché chi è il più piccolo tra tutti voi, questi è grande".	48 And he said to them: “Whoever will receive this child in my name, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives him who sent me. For whoever is the lesser among you all, the same is greater.”
49 Giovanni prese la parola dicendo: "Maestro, abbiamo visto un tale che scacciava demòni nel tuo nome e glielo abbiamo impedito, perché non è con noi tra i tuoi seguaci".	49 And responding, John said: “Teacher, we saw a certain one casting out demons in your name. And we prohibited him, for he does not follow with us.”
50 Ma Gesù gli rispose: "Non glielo impedite, perché chi non è contro di voi, è per voi".	50 And Jesus said to him: “Do not prohibit him. For whoever is not against you, is for you.”
51 Mentre stavano compiendosi i giorni in cui sarebbe stato tolto dal mondo, si diresse decisamente verso Gerusalemme	51 Now it happened that, while the days of his dissipation were being completed, he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem.
52 e mandò avanti dei messaggeri. Questi si incamminarono ed entrarono in un villaggio di Samaritani per fare i preparativi per lui.	52 And he sent messengers before his face. And going on, they entered into a city of the Samaritans, to prepare for him.
53 Ma essi non vollero riceverlo, perché era diretto verso Gerusalemme.	53 And they would not receive him, because his face was going toward Jerusalem.
54 Quando videro ciò, i discepoli Giacomo e Giovanni dissero: "Signore, vuoi che diciamo che 'scenda un fuoco dal cielo e li consumi'?".	54 And when his disciples, James and John, had seen this, they said, “Lord, do you want us to call for fire to descend from heaven and consume them?”
55 Ma Gesù si voltò e li rimproverò.	55 And turning, he rebuked them, saying: “Do you not know of whose spirit you are?
56 E si avviarono verso un altro villaggio.	56 The Son of man came, not to destroy lives, but to save them.” And they went into another town.
57 Mentre andavano per la strada, un tale gli disse: "Ti seguirò dovunque tu vada".	57 And it happened that, as they were walking along the way, someone said to him, “I will follow you, wherever you will go.”
58 Gesù gli rispose: "Le volpi hanno le loro tane e gli uccelli del cielo i loro nidi, ma il Figlio dell'uomo non ha dove posare il capo".	58 Jesus said to him: “Foxes have dens, and the birds of the air have nests. But the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head.”
59 A un altro disse: "Seguimi". E costui rispose: "Signore, concedimi di andare a seppellire prima mio padre".	59 Then he said to another, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.”
60 Gesù replicò: "Lascia che i morti seppelliscano i loro morti; tu va' e annunzia il regno di Dio".	60 And Jesus said to him: “Let the dead bury their dead. But you go and announce the kingdom of God.”
61 Un altro disse: "Ti seguirò, Signore, ma prima lascia che io mi congedi da quelli di casa".	61 And another said: “I will follow you, Lord. But permit me first to explain this to those of my house.”
62 Ma Gesù gli rispose: "Nessuno che ha messo mano all'aratro e poi si volge indietro, è adatto per il regno di Dio".	62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow, and then looks back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
