1 Mi fu rivolta questa parola del Signore:	1 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
2 "Figlio dell'uomo, volgi la faccia verso il mezzogiorno, parla alla regione australe e predici contro la selva del mezzogiorno.	2 “Son of man, set your face toward Jerusalem, and pour in drops toward the sanctuaries, and prophesy against the soil of Israel.
3 Dirai alla selva del mezzogiorno: Ascolta la parola del Signore: Dice il Signore Dio: Ecco, io accenderò in te un fuoco che divorerà in te ogni albero verde e ogni albero secco: la fiamma ardente non si spegnerà e ogni sembiante sarà bruciato dal mezzogiorno al settentrione.	3 And you shall say to the land of Israel: Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, and I will cast my sword from its sheath, and I will slay the just and the impious among you.
4 Ogni vivente vedrà che io, il Signore, l'ho incendiato e non si spegnerà".	4 But in as much as I have slain among you the just and the impious, for this reason my sword will go forth from its sheath against all flesh, from the south even to the north.
5 Io dissi: "Ah! Signore Dio, essi vanno dicendo di me: Non è forse costui uno che racconta delle favole?".	5 So may all flesh know that I, the Lord, have led my sword out of its sheath irrevocably.
6 Mi fu rivolta questa parola del Signore:	6 And as for you, son of man, groan in the breaking of your back, and groan in bitterness before them.
7 "Figlio dell'uomo, volgi la faccia verso Gerusalemme e parla contro i suoi santuari, predici contro il paese d'Israele.	7 And when they will say to you, ‘Why are you groaning?’ you shall say: ‘On behalf of the report, For it is approaching. And every heart will waste away, and every hand will be broken, and every spirit will be weakened, and water will flow across every knee.’ Behold, it is approaching and it will happen, says the Lord God.”
8 Tu riferirai al paese d'Israele: Così dice il Signore Dio: Eccomi contro di te. Sguainerò la spada e ucciderò in te il giusto e il peccatore.	8 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
9 Se ucciderò in te il giusto e il peccatore, significa che la spada sguainata sarà contro ogni carne, dal mezzogiorno al settentrione.	9 “Son of man, prophesy, and you shall say: Thus says the Lord God: Speak: The sword! The sword has been sharpened and polished!
10 Così ogni vivente saprà che io, il Signore, ho sguainato la spada ed essa non rientrerà nel fodero.	10 It has been sharpened, so that it may cut down victims! It has been polished, so that it may shine! You are disturbing the scepter of my son. You have cut down every tree.
11 Tu, figlio dell'uomo, piangi: piangi davanti a loro con il cuore infranto e pieno d'amarezza.	11 And I have sent it to be made smooth, so that it may be handled. This sword has been sharpened, and it has been polished, so that it may be in the hand of the one who kills.
12 Quando ti domanderanno: Perché piangi?, risponderai: Perché è giunta la notizia che il cuore verrà meno, le mani s'indeboliranno, lo spirito sarà costernato, le ginocchia vacilleranno. Ecco è giunta e si compie". Parola del Signore Dio.	12 Cry out and wail, O son of man! For this has been done among my people, this is among all the leaders of Israel, who have fled. They have been handed over to the sword, with my people. Therefore, slap your thigh,
13 Mi fu rivolta questa parola del Signore:	13 for it has been tested. And this one, when he will have overthrown the scepter, will not be, says the Lord God.
14 "Figlio dell'uomo, profetizza e di' loro: Così dice il Signore Dio: Spada, spada aguzza e affilata,	14 You therefore, O son of man, prophesy, and strike hand against hand, and let the sword be doubled, and let the sword of the slain be tripled. This is the sword of the great slaughter, which causes them to be utterly stupefied,
15 aguzza per scannare, affilata per lampeggiare!	15 and to waste away in heart, and which multiplies ruin. At all their gates, I have presented the consternation of the sword, which has been sharpened and polished so as to shine, which has been dressed for the slaughter.

17 Grida e lamèntati, o figlio dell'uomo, perché essa pesa sul mio popolo, su tutti i prìncipi d'Israele: essi cadranno di spada insieme con il mio popolo. Perciò battiti il fianco,	17 And then I will clap hand against hand, and I will fulfill my indignation. I, the Lord, have spoken.”

23 Mi fu rivolta questa parola del Signore:	23 And he shall be, in their eyes, like someone consulting an oracle in vain, or imitating the leisure of Sabbaths. But he will call to mind iniquities, so that it will be captured.
24 "Figlio dell'uomo, traccia due strade per il passaggio della spada del re di Babilonia; proverranno tutte e due dallo stesso paese; tu metti un segnale a capo della strada che conduce nella città.	24 Therefore, thus says the Lord God: Because you have been remembered in your iniquities, and you have revealed your betrayals, and your sins have appeared within all your plans, because, I say, you have been remembered, you will be captured by a hand.
25 Traccia la strada per cui la spada giunga a Rabbà degli Ammoniti e in Giuda, a Gerusalemme nella città fortificata.	25 But as for you, O impious leader of Israel, whose day has arrived that was predetermined at the time of iniquity:
26 Infatti il re di Babilonia è fermo al bivio, all'inizio delle due strade, per interrogare le sorti: agita le frecce, interroga gli dèi domestici, osserva il fegato.	26 Thus says the Lord God: Take away the diadem, remove the crown. Is this not what has exalted the lowly one, and brought low the sublime one?
27 Nella sua destra è uscito il responso: Gerusalemme, per porre contro di essa gli arieti, per farle udire l'ordine del massacro, echeggiare grida di guerra, disporre gli arieti contro le sue porte, innalzare terrapieni, costruire trincee.	27 Iniquity, iniquity, iniquity I will make it. 28 Ma questo non è che un vano presagio agli occhi di quelli che hanno fatto loro solenni giuramenti. Egli però ricorda loro l'iniquità per cui saranno catturati".	28 And as for you, son of man, prophesy, and say: Thus says the Lord God to the sons of Ammon, and to their disgrace, and you shall say: O sword, O sword, unsheathe yourself so as to slay; polish yourself so as to kill and to shine,
29 Perciò dice il Signore: "Poiché voi avete fatto ricordare le vostre iniquità, rendendo manifeste le vostre trasgressioni e palesi i vostri peccati in tutto il vostro modo di agire, poiché ve ne vantate, voi resterete presi al laccio.	29 while they look upon you in vain, and they divine lies, so that you may be given over to the necks of the wounded impious, whose day has arrived that was predetermined at the time of iniquity.
30 A te, sconsacrato, empio principe d'Israele, di cui è giunto il giorno con il tempo della tua iniquità finale,	30 Be returned to your sheath! I will judge you in the place where you were created, in the land of your nativity.
31 così dice il Signore Dio: Deponi il turbante e togliti la corona: tutto sarà cambiato: ciò che è basso sarà elevato e ciò che è alto sarà abbassato.	31 And I will pour out upon you my indignation. In the fire of my fury, I will fan you, and I will give you over to the hands of cruel men, who have devised destruction.
32 In rovina, in rovina, in rovina la ridurrò e non si rialzerà più finché non giunga colui al quale appartiene di diritto e al quale io la darò".	32 You will be food for the fire; your blood will be in the midst of the land; you will be delivered to oblivion. For I, the Lord, have spoken.”
33 Tu, figlio dell'uomo, profetizza e annunzia: "Così dice il Signore Dio agli Ammoniti e riguardo ai loro insulti. Di' dunque: La spada, la spada è sguainata per la strage, è affilata per sterminare, per lampeggiare,
34 mentre tu hai false visioni e ti si predicono sorti bugiarde, la spada sarà messa alla gola degli empi perversi, il cui giorno è venuto, al colmo della loro malvagità.
35 Rimettila nel fodero. Nel luogo stesso in cui tu fosti creato, nella terra stessa in cui sei nato, io ti giudicherò;
36 rovescerò su di te il mio sdegno, contro di te soffierò nel fuoco della mia ira e ti abbandonerò in mano di uomini violenti, portatori di distruzione.
37 Sarai preda del fuoco, del tuo sangue sarà intrisa la terra, non ti si ricorderà più perché io, il Signore, ho parlato".
